Description
After Chandler ran in to Janice at the store the other day, she has practically moved in. She's here early every morning until late at night. When she's not hanging out with him at our place, she's dragging him out to do something else together. After Chandler ran in to Janice at the store the other day, my heart shattered. That being said, this was the first day I had alone with him. She had to take her son to the doctor's office for a check-up or something, I wasn't paying too much attention to that witch.
We used to talk so easily, me and Chandler. But now we rarely have the chance. Even though we now have the chance, we're just sitting in the living room under an awkward silence.
"So," he said, trailing off at the end.
"So," I responded, mimicking his tone.
"How are you?" Said Chandler. When did our relaxed conversations transform into awkward ones?
"Good. You?" Though awkward, I'll still try to be polite.
"I'm doing alright, I guess." 'I wonder what that means, him adding the "I guess" ,' I wondered.
"That's good. How's Janice?" I act as if I like her, but in my head I'm listing all the reasons I hate her.
"She's," he paused, as if searching for the right word, "alright". My mind was inundated with reasons as to why she's only 'alright'. 'Maybe,' I thought, 'maybe he doesn't-" I cut the voice in my head off. The last thing I need is to get my hopes up.
"That's nice." I said. 'Y/n!' Screamed my brain. 'Great job! You just made this situation even more awkward. I didn't even think that was possible.'
"So, how are things with you and Joey?" He asked, saying the name Joey with a bit more emotion lacing his tone.
"Joey and I are doing just fine, why do you ask?" I inquired, curious as to why that was on his mind.
"Oh, no reason." He said with a voice that was both painfully sarcastic and undeniably hurt.
'Maybe that's because Janice isn't the one that Chandler likes...' Sung my mind. 'Remember what Joey said? He told you that Chandler was excited when you accidentally told him you loved him. That has to mean something.' Oh shut up, me. Thinking this why is pointless. It's only going to end up hurting the both of us. 'Unless it's not!' Sometimes I hate this thing.
I tried to contain myself within my mind, but my curiosity ended up getting the best of me.
"Hey, why did you only say that Janice is 'alright'?" I asked. I immediately regretted saying it. He's going to know. he's gonna figure it out that I'm helplessly in love with him.
"Well, she just," he said, trailing off as he was unsure of whether he should continue. He let out a big sigh and went on. "I can barely stand that woman." He said, lifting an odd weight off of my shoulders. "Remember when we had started dating again, and everyone else could see how annoying she was but I just couldn't?" He paused so that I could nod. "Well, now I can see it." He finished. "It wasn't that apparent when I first ran into her again, so I thought that maybe I could talk to her and get some advice on what it's like to date me. I know, I sound like a loser, but bear with me. I just thought that it might help me with this girl I like, but I think it hurt her more than anything. And now I'm stuck with Janice, and the love of my life thinks I prefer an annoying bitch over her." He said, finishing his story, which seemed a bit like a rant by the end.
"Chandler, I can always help you with girl stuff." I told him. If this conversation was going where I hoped, I was giving him an opportunity. If not, at least I can help him get Janice out of the picture.
"Well, then how should I ask this girl out?" He said, already becoming a bit more confident.
"Well, you should just tell her how you feel." I told him, hoping a confession was coming my way. "If there's anything that a girl likes, it's honesty."
"What if she rejects me?" He asks.
"How could she? You're one of the sweetest guys I've ever met, you're dashingly handsome, and your sense of humor would drive any girl in her right mind crazy for you." I told him, pouring out only the tip of the iceberg that was my heart.
"Then I should probably tell her." said Chandler, looking at me with his beautiful blue eyes.
"Yea, you should." As I spoke, I suddenly became aware of how close we had gotten during our conversation. That made me even more aware of him standing up.
"I think I'll go call her then, right now." He said with a smile, walking toward the door.
"Wh-what?" I asked.
"I said I'm going to go and call this girl. I'll go use Monica's phone though, ours still has that pasta sauce that Joey spilled on it." He stated, walking towards the door. I began to object, saying that I had cleaned it off already (I had a lot of time to cry and clean house when he was with Janice), but then I realized that I would have to hear him talking to this girl.
"O-okay." I said, trying not to let my voice break. I managed to get by with only a stutter, and he walked out of the door. As soon as the door shut, I felt my heart become heavy, my body become empty. Why did I have to give him advice? Chandler obviously didn't love me, he loves some other girl. Some pretty, thin, supermodel-esque girl, perhaps. Before I had the chance to fully begin crying, however, I heard something. It took me a moment to register the noise, but as soon as I did I felt a glimmer of hope. It was our phone.
It could have just been a friend, or maybe even Janice calling to say that she was done with whatever, but I couldn't help but feel my heart coming back to life. I rushed to the counter, grabbing the phone and pulling it to my face.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hi." Came the voice from the other side. It was Chandler. I wanted to scream into the phone out of pure joy, but that probably would have ruined the moment. "So, I guess you know why I'm calling." He said.
"Yea." I told him, a smile wide on my face.
"You know, I knew you had already cleaned the phone off. I just needed an excuse to use their phone instead of ours." He explained.
"Well, it worked you dork." I told him. "Now get your butt back over here so I can hug you." I heard him hang up, then rapid footsteps approaching the door. I met him there when he swung it open, ready to leap into his arms. I ran forward, wrapping my arms around Chandler's neck, burrowing my face into his chest.
"I love you Chandler." I told him.
"I love you too Y/n." He said, wrapping his arms around my waist. Finally, I knew that he loved me back as much as I loved him. Now all we had to do was tell the rest of the group.
