Well actually, that is only a cockatrice. A basilisk is more like a big serpent.

Oh wow I haven't seen many people use a reduction method with wood block/linoleum cuts. I'd be sort of sad to see my blocks go.
This look absolutely amazing, though! I love those colours and, even moreso, the lines!

i think this way you are being more ok with the persony buying one of your prints. he/she knows that there are only 10 (or whatever amount you make) prints and there won`t be more. so the work a person buys is more unique.

Very true. Same applies for screen printing. But I've known a lot of people who sold their original wood block, also.

Really really fantastic piece! I love all of the textures and colors and layers that you put into this. I wouldn't be surprised if it tried your patience at some points I like that there's no action in this because it really lets your textures and form come forward.

naaw, it was pure fun. only 4 layers of colour. my previous one had about 6 or more layers and sucked in the end. it turns out too much grooving stretches the lino block. i`m glad you like the textures. my teacher is all about "MOAR textures! D: " so my next lino is probably going to be action-less too. i dunno if it`s good but i want to exploit textures first, then torture myself with action.

Damn, this is great...
Did you color it afterwise or did you made different linos for colors? I don't know how to say that.
Like they used to do with chromolithography....
Anyway i really like it, especially because of the slight medieval bestiary style and still very realistic.

i used one piece of lino and grooved parts of the image, that i wanted in some colour. then printed. then grooved and add another color. then printed then grooved... it took me about 3 months. i think it`s called reduction or reductive method.

That's more of less what i was referring to.
This really looks difficult and long but the result is worth it. It's impressive too because it is so big...
Is there only one existing original?

i didn`t pick this one, because of the way his comb looks like. it should be deep red. instead, you see reddish-violet stuff in the head area. i didn`t like that.

I see what you mean.
The red one works really well.
But i cannot not like the bluish, violetish one because it has this unreal feel to it.

there are about 10 more left, the best one was taken by my linocut teacher and i`m left with what you see and several greenish and blooish color versions.
