The first thing that draws attention in the illustration is the technique used to portray the hair on face of the character. The skill is very improved and made masterfully to represent this texture - that are hard to represent on a drawing.
The eyes too represent happiness and are well drawn, as for the shadow-light work on the clothing of the character.
If there's one point that could be better worked it is the cake: it contrasted with the remainder of the figure for have been drawn without much details, but without breaking the impact of the figure (I think that it shows the simplicity mixed with the intricacy of image).
Well, the image was well constructed and pass the emotion of happiness from the birthday. Continue doing your best and I wish you success with your arts.
