Cheers Steve. The Favourite pieces seem to be this, the wolfman and the winged warrior. I'm off now (after Fri Sat Sun stuck inside the office in the glorious weather) so hope to finish off some bits.

Ah, I forgot to say so. I have one picture in my gall where I used the rub technique, Among the Mountains [link] I used it for the sun and sunrays, but not on the rest of the picture as I remember. It shows a little bad in the scanning though.

The link does not connect. Which gallery is it in - I can search for it.

Oh. Stupid link. It's in my folder Fantasy Drawings. Quite easy to find. A pencil drawing of a dragon in a mountain scene.

Nice! Did you use the eraser on her bodice too and her hair? Or just on the lighter parts? I think it's hard to use the eraser for light effects on too darkly shaded things. The light through the wings look great! I like that you added the little falling bits of wing there too. Nice touch!

Thank you. The eraser is within a pen body, so is maybe 5-7mm wide and fairly hard. I coloured the wings, leaving the holes, then only used the eraser on the light coming through the wings. It didn't take off all the graphite, leaving the nice lighter grey tones, where you can still see the wings through the light beam.

With the bodice, I pre-planned where the highlights would be and coloured around them. I have done a fair bit of black ink-work, where you have to think where the highlight will be and remember not to ink it! So this helped here!

With the hair it was the same as the bodice, except I didn't leave it white, I used my blending stump to take graphite from the hair and blend it with the white highlight, giving the grey tone on the hair, which makes it look shiny.

Ah, practical!
Yes, that's a nice effect. I usually try to achieve those light effects by just not drawing so darkly there in the first place. But sometimes the erasing is very nice!

I suspected that since it seemed to be so very dark around the highlights. Would have been hard to erase so much. Nice, I've tried inking sometimes. But I'm not very good at that.

Nice!

Well the eraser is quite hard (I have another softer one for large areas and sketchwork) but it will take off all the graphite of say 3B I used to lightly shade the back ground, but not all of the 8B hard shading I used on the wings.

Try it out on a scrap of paper - no need to draw a picture, just two blocks of different tone will do.

I only have those big square "normal" erasers. And one really thin one, but it's getting bad because it's a little old. It used to be good though. I usually prefer soft rubbers since they don't smear things.
Nice!

I know. Thanx for advice though.
