Description
My more boring tutorial about lines and paths: fav.me/d2bkxy7A list of helpful keyboard shortcuts: www.designzzz.com/hidden-photo…
Tutorial for beginners about good ol' Photoshop. I use the CS version here. Oh, and I noticed I kept saying "I'll explain that part later" but I never do... sorry. Ask questions about those subjects I don't touch on if you wish!
2009 EDIT: So uh, I've noticed some people asking me about how to use layers and how to colour in subjects... I'd just type "coloring in Photoshop " into deviantART's search bar and you'll get a multitude of techniques. Everyone goes about using Photoshop to paint differently. Many people have their opinions and ways of going about it, so if you stumble across something that just confuses the hell out of you, either study it until you understand, or move on and discover your own way. But still feel free to ask questions to me, of course, ha ha.
Word of advice:
PHOTOSHOP
DOES NOT
BITE
Screw around with the program! Don't be a wuss! Just don't do anything to uninstall the program, and you'll be just fiiiiiine. You can always go back to the default settings.
2010 EDIT: I've noticed a lot of young aspiring artists have been favoriting this. If you need help with art, or want to look through other tutorials on a variety of subjects, go to this group:
Conceptart.org also had a very useful forum!
2020 EDIT: Please buy Clip Studio Paint instead lol www.clipstudio.net/en/

Oops, sorry for not replying earlier. Perhaps you should simply re-install it. There could be a problem with the program itself, or some sort of weird compatibility issue between photoshop and your computer.

Ah! Thanks for pointing that out. I'm in the process of making a new tutorial which is more organized, and also has that pen tool info on it. In fact I even made a pen tool part for this one but I stored it on an external harddrive and can't find it anywhere, bleh. Check back in a week or two and the new tut should be up!

Thank You very much! I have a question, how were you able to get rid of the lines on the paper?

Vierdz In reply to ParallelUniverse00 [2008-05-08 20:28:18 +0000 UTC]
Glad it helped!
In this case (if I remember right...) the lines simply disappeared when I adjusted the levels, then I would have erased or used the stamp tool to clear any unwanted lines that didn't disappear around the art. However, should the lines not disappear by level adjusting, you have to go through the tiring process of selecting the unwanted lines with the lasso tool and deleting them. If you have a bunch of lines all over the place, hold down the shift key while using the lasso tool to select more than one area. That way you don't have to keep jumping around and deleting. Then once you get rid of all you can with the lasso, you can go in and erase.
However, in cases where it's not simple line art on lined paper, there's a lot more involved. Let's say you've shaded in something with graphite. To get rid of the lines that are in your shaded in spots you'd have to use the stamp tool, which will clone a selected part of the image and paste it to where you click. (Hold down Alt and click to select the spot you want to clone from.) This however takes FOREVER and I recommend copying the drawing onto drawing paper, or not drawing it on binder paper at all (which can't be helped in certain cases, ha ha ha.)
To sum it up:
1) select lasso tool
2) hold down shift to select more than one area to delete
3) press delete!
4) erase/stamp tool/brush to fix art work
Hope that helped. Sorry, I sorta went over the top with answering a simple question.
And good timing with your question; I just logged in today after not being active here for 20+ weeks!

XD Ha ha, my starting out Photoshop was horrible... yeah, people kept asking how to use photoshop, so I figured if I could just show 'em how to use the tools they can get their own style from there, however it'd be awesome to see how you paint with PS. :3 I lurve your style!
