Can you really just use any old jigsaw or do you need to have a moderately priced one? Also, the Dremel, which models would you recommend? I am curious to know before I decide to purchase anything, considering I have neither tools.

vvmasterdrfan In reply to Hiro-Akemi [2010-02-27 03:17:07 +0000 UTC]
any jigsaw works fine. as long as it can cut the wood and the blade can follow along your markings on the wood.
any dremel model is fine i got the cheapest one.

Why is thicker wood harder to carve?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Rydiathedragon432 [2010-02-21 09:22:16 +0000 UTC]
i would say harder, but it might be more difficult to make the carves. you may get confused with the width/ how far youre actually cutting ect.. and it'll weight more. i recommend one half inch thick

Rydiathedragon432 In reply to vvmasterdrfan [2010-02-22 03:54:30 +0000 UTC]
Ah. @w@ I didn't think of that. xD Will do. From what I saw, you got a huge plank, 4 feet by something, so if you take a keyblade and measure it against KH 1 Sora, who for explanation purposes is five feet tall, that would make an average keyblade 3-3 1/2 feet tall. Is the extra space just room to cut?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Rydiathedragon432 [2010-02-23 03:30:51 +0000 UTC]
yea the extra space is just extra. but you're correct, the keyblade in real life would be around 3-3.5 feet tall, (all my keyblades are 40 inchs long).

vvmasterdrfan In reply to Ldrmas [2010-02-20 16:26:02 +0000 UTC]
a tutorial? its pretty much the same directions, just a different keyblade. if you follow the directions it should work for any keyblade you want to make ^_^ but you can look at my Bond of Flame for reference if you need to ^_^ [link]

Have any tutorials on how to build chakrams?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Sango622 [2010-02-12 13:49:39 +0000 UTC]
no, but the same rules apply to chakrams. if you fallow the directions and just do the same thing, you'll get chakrams ^_^
š: 0 ā©: 1
Sango622 In reply to vvmasterdrfan [2010-02-13 04:03:22 +0000 UTC]
Around how much did it cost you for the wood?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Sango622 [2010-02-14 14:58:10 +0000 UTC]
hmm
maybe $20 for each 4 feet x 1 foot x 1/2 inch thick piece. but for chakrams (the why im seeing it) i would want to make them thicker, because they are thicker than keyblades. so i would use double the amount. you may need to split the chakrams into pieces first and then carve them, once the carving is done, you can piece them together since they are fairly large weapons.

Sango622 In reply to vvmasterdrfan [2010-02-14 20:07:15 +0000 UTC]
I was planning on using 3/4 inch plywood, but as one piece instead. I'm not too sure how I could piece it together.

Shallower In reply to ??? [2010-01-29 06:37:59 +0000 UTC]
Just wondering.... wouldn't actually sanding the wood and use some type of lacquer or even using a primer and then use the metallic paint would give the key blade a much more shinier and metallic appearance? Because... by all means.. you are great.. and the key blades look great... other than the fact that the paint kinda sets into the wood and makes the colors dull.
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Shallower [2010-01-29 16:26:11 +0000 UTC]
the gesso primer i use doesn't allow the colors to seep through the wood, i've applied more than one coat. yes i have tried a glossy effect, but it makes it look horrible. I don't want my keyblades looking like shiny plastic.
with the gloss it really does look cheaper and more messy. in real life, the colors are very vibrant and the metallics stand out very well.
