Description
Both of these objects unlock something. The key is obvious. The lens however unlocks light, and allows the creation of images, through the control of light intensity, perspective and depth of field.with special thanks to DHL Photography for his rendition of this image:

thanks Bill I really appreciate your inclusion of my shot.
I had a good look at your gallery, and I would really like to feature it on March 14th. I know that is kind of far away, but I have to build it it advance or it doesn't happen.

you are welcome,
The main reason that i am letting you know now, is that i will not be able to do so on the day. I am preparing journal entries for the next 6-7 weeks because I will not be available, additional notification simply won't be possible. Reasons will be highlighted briefly in my February 8th update.

Is that really a Lens? It kinda look like an extender to me. Probably I'm wrong so just asking. I followed that more info link but didn't get the answer I was looking for.
Excellent shot. Did U do any adjustments in software?

WayneBenedet In reply to TTM77 [2008-01-07 15:51:57 +0000 UTC]
yes it is really a lens. It is made for a 4x5 view camera and is about a 110mm (4 1/4 inches). So it is a wide angle lens.
If you follow the link, is is the #2 lens listed, made for a 4x5 camera is has a focal length of 6 inches.

110mm is consider a wide angle lens? Hmm.. then my Canon 50mm II [link] age=2 would consider a very wide angle lens.
I'm curious if U did any adjustments in your pictures. They look very nice.

Let me explain this to you.
Basically there are 3 categories of lenses, telephoto, normal and wide angle. (A fourth category is zoom, but we won't consider that).
A lens is considered "normal" if the image it produces on the film or cmos approximated what the eye sees. So a normal lens for a 35mm camera is about 50-55 mm. Anything above is telephoto, anything below is wide angle.
Now remember that "Normal" has to do with the relationship of the lens to the image capturing area and its ability to approximate what the eye sees. So a camera that has a larger negative or CMOS, will have a different focal length for a normal lens. a 6x7 camera for instance has a normal lens of about 90mm because that approximates what the eye sees.
large format lenses are highly precise instruments and have much higher standards of production that 35mm lenses. the reason is that the entire lens area must be corrected because of the use of swings and tilts on the camera. A 35mm lens only has the very centre of the lens elements corrected to this level. A well made large format lens will have this correction across the entire surface of the lens. There are also other differences. 4x5 and 6x7 lenses have shutters built into the lens. this increases production cost significantly but a copal shutter has significant advantages over a focal plane shutter in some circumstances...like flash photography...you can use any shutter speed....no need to sync.
regarding my pictures. All images are corrected. if you shoot a jpeg....the camera has corrected it for you based upon an algorithm built into the camera. Images have to be corrected because of colour casts in scenes. My images are all shot in RAW. basically that means the camera does not do any correcting so i have to do it on a computer. If an image is marked as a manipulation, it has a number of correction layers. if it is not marked as a manipulation it will have few layers. The standard correction layers i use for almost every image are: sharpening, curves and sometimes levels. Anything beyond this, is in my mind a manipulation..though this is a very strict standard and few agree with me.
