Cool perspective. Especially because I try to draw an alley like this one too. Not from that angle but I somehow have problems with the perspective...whatever.
Great picture!

your style is excellent.

i like your use of perspective, it's done very well, as always.

your use of light is also pretty good and the shadows that go with it.

but you have a nack of putting points and corners near the edge ....

anyway, it's still alright.

ren-savatri [2004-12-13 22:59:51 +0000 UTC]

I like this one, regardless of quality. It's a pity you lost the original file, yes, but that can be ignored. The sideways glance, the thin smile, the casual feel of it. Sort of like he was going out for a smoke except he doesn't smoke (anymore?), but now going outside's become a habit. A way to relax, standing under the light source wonderfully devoid of moths and other flying insects. While there he mutters to himself, jokingly, maybe out of slight disappointment that no one decided to come and keep him company. "Ah, lamp of archaic aesthetics. You are my only friend." That sort of thing. Cute posters.

Most of your character designs are so ridiculously, painstakingly complex - it's nice to see something so simple yet not without the smooth, flowing quality of other works (and that unique skewed angle we love so much), even if it isn't entirely yours.

Pardon the tangent, but there's a definite lack of good angles in what little I've seen of devART - mostly stuff that's straight-on and parallel to the ground (unless I stop to consider upskirt panty shots, which don't frickin' count). Little deviation from the norm, if you will excuse the pun I didn't want to make. I've rarely come across anyone who tries to think like, say, a movie director, a cinematographer, or a photographer (I may not be an artist in the visual sense, but that does not stop me from injecting my know-it-all opinions whenever it comes up). While that's certainly okay when it comes to straightforward artists, I am of the belief that it's a no-no for comic artists. In fact I perused through your Scraps to review the comic pages I remember seeing in there, to see if you'd apply interesting angles to any of the artwork therein. I have this to say: while I think you should use less close-ups, I also think I would seriously consider injuring someone or several people in order to have someone with your skills as an artist at my side. Square/Enix be damned.

...On second thought, either not nearly enough people do interesting angles in art, or I haven't stumbled onto that super-secret skewed angle club that in all likelihood doesn't exist, perhaps dubbed as 'S³AC' or some other fancy acronym. Please tell me there is one (but only if it means telling the truth), and that you are not only a member but the president, founder, and primary spokesperson. Though to be honest I'd settle for you being a charter member, as long as there is one.

P.S. - I just remembered English isn't your native language. I offer my apologies if you got lost in my ranting.

The dull muddy colours work wonders for the feeling of this drawing. The stark contrast between the lamp and shadows makes it stand out. The angle and pose of the character are well done, as is the way his clothes fold. Funky hair!
