Dawn , Layla ...

Story Notes: This is supposed to be December 2004. Dawn and Layla had recently come back from a hiking/camping trip that went wrong in some ways (unexpected blizzard, trapped in a cabin for several days and nights) and very right in others (finally acted on their attraction to each other). When they made it home (to Dawn's family's house) they tried to go back to how it was between them before the cabin, didn't even talk about what happened there. Their feelings were too strong, so that didn't last long. And soon enough the romantic turn in their friendship became apparent to everyone around them. Layla half-jokingly blames it on the red shorts Dawn was wearing during one of their "let's-act-like-nothing-happened" workouts.

There's a funny lead-in to the hiking trip where Layla had to pry Dawn away from World of Warcraft. Dawn had planned their weekend hike, but forgot all about it due to the game's release. She was so hooked on her Night Elf Hunter she didn't even realize it was Friday (the game had gone live Tuesday) until Layla walked into her room.

Behind-the-Scenes: This could've been (almost) the final version of Second Generation . I built a garage-like setting around Dawn and Layla with a stereo and speakers, but under this lighting none of it showed up. All it did was create pixel fireflies all over the place, so I took the setting back to a simple black velvet floor and wall. Even so, just by having Dawn and Layla together with clothes on made this into a 14 hour render.

I'd wanted to put a Metallica poster in the background; they're Dawn's favorite band and have been since she was nine. I also want to find or make some Metallica t-shirt textures for clothes Dawn might wear.

If you think the World of Warcraft story is far-fetched for someone as gorgeous as Dawn Hayes think again.
