Description Sometimes I really dislike being creative, I thought of this design while at work a few days ago. And though I do not need anymore AUs, this one was nagging at me to draw it out. Yes I am still working on my other AUs and the ask 'blog' I got going on. (The one ask I'm answering just has a reallly long reply oops *snort*) But this idea that came to me I just, realllllly wanted to draw. <3 It has a similar nature like Alice in Wonderland and Halloween in one, though this one is a bit more based on the horrors of the creatures associated with the very holiday.

I also thought a lot on the story behind this, that is if I actually pursue further details in this AU idea and also if my watchers are interested in knowing more. Since I thought a good bit on the beginning of this AU, I might as well tell how Frisk meets this Sans.

I'll call it Hallowtale, hence the Halloween theme of it all.
The Story
Frisk is dressed as an angel in this AU, a Halloween costume to symbolize the fallen angel of this story. On Halloween night, Frisk falls into the Underground, this being called the Underhallow by the monsters who are trapped there. Once waking from their fall, Frisk was greeted by Flowey who, in Hallowtale, is a golden rose who tries to warn Frisk of the dangers beyond the catacombs of which they fell into. Though before he could really explain himself, he was scared away by an approaching form of a large goat woman with twin sets of horns and the upper half of her head being exposed skull. This image as seen by the Upper world, is associated with the essence of evil and witchcraft. Though this goat being, named Toriel, proves to Frisk she has no evil intentions and that the image of the goat skull was given an evil view by humans and that she had no connections to the vile being known as the Devil. Winning Frisk's trust, Toriel brought Frisk out of the catacombs to her home, an area cleaned of any bones and remains of the resting humans that once lived there. It wasn't till Frisk wished to leave the catacombs to find their way back home, they having to get by Toriel with mercy and proving they could survive on their own out there. Armed with only her pumpkin candy bucket, Frisk pushed their way out to the awaiting world behind the doors.

Upon exiting the ruins, Frisk would find themselves walking into a large pumpkin patch, pumpkins of many shapes and sizes growing wildly throughout despite the fresh snow that layered the ground. Finding it strange of such a plant even growing in such cold weather, upon further inspection they would find that some of these pumpkins had carved faces in them though no evidence shows any tools were used to carve them out. Walking further down the snow-covered path, the human caught the sounds of birds, crows to be more exact as they would come to notice a hung-up scarecrow that was tied to a wooden cross, a few crows perched on its frame. It looks as though it had been hanging there for a long time, beaten and battered by the weather. You feel bad for the poor thing, wanting to help it even though it didn't look to be alive. Upon closer inspection though, Frisk would notice a key hanging around its neck. Remembering what Toriel said about each biome needing a key to unlock each area's gates to move forward, Frisk figures it would be best to take this key in case they were to find where it goes along the way. In this world, skeleton keys are important items for progression.

Though just as their hand grips the key, the scarecrow seems to come alive with words being the first clue, "*it's rude to touch what isn't yours doll.." before his head would lift to give a mischievous smile. This sudden realization that this scarecrow was in fact alive, caused the human to jerk back, releasing the key they just had in hand. Frisk would quickly learn that his name is Sans, he proving to be not only a jokester but also a mischievous trickster who was hung and tied up to his 'post' by the royal guard in punishment of him never being at his post when needed or told. Frisk asks how long he's been there, but he would only say 'long enough.' Giving the choice of heloing him down or not is the first decision that helps Sans understand the kind of person the human is. Choosing not too will have him say "*really? just going to leave a man hanging eh? alright, guess i'll just wait here in case ya change your mind." Though in the end they will need to release him if they were to progress any further--seeing the gates out were locked and the key to open it was nowhere to be found. If choosing to help, Sans would encourage them so by making a deal--if they cut him down, he may help them on their journey out. Not having anything to cut him down with, he gives the human the task of finding one somewhere in the pumpkin patch--the first goal within the pumpkin fields. Frisk would come across a small stand further out in the pumpkin patch, it being a pumpkin seed stand that smelled of cooked pumpkin guts and seeds. Surprising enough the one operating it was the same scarecrow that they were off to help free.

He offers to sell them some cooked seeds, ignoring their question of how he got free. Though with them mentioning the scarecrow, Sans only smiles as he leans against his stand. "*oh, so you are looking to free me~? if that's the case, you'll be needing a knife...which i could part with for a small price.~" Upon buying the carving knife, Sans shoos them back down the path, they finding the same scarecrow still hanging there and looking as though he hadn't moved one bit. Seeing Frisk return, he would give a wider, toothy smile and greet them back with a mischievous chuckle. Once freed and no longer being a hanged man, Sans shows he's a bit of an energetic one and he takes graceful steps before twirling around to give a bow. Thanking Frisk for their help, he keeps his promise in helping them them out with the key around his neck being the very key needed to unlock the pumpkin patch gates. Also acting a bit as a guide, he also warns them about his brother who was known as the 'horseless headsman', which Frisk asks if he means the 'headless horseman' but Sans only disregards that. He explains that his brother indeed still has his head, but his horse on the other hand...well, that was something they were going to have to find out. Papyrus though, is known as the headsman due to the fact that he collects the skulls of his opponents, his main target...humans. Though what he doesn't tell Frisk is that Papyrus isn't one to really be afraid of as the skulls he bares weren't from his own kills but were in fact given to him by Undyne. He just leaving the human to be afraid due to his trickster nature and having a bit of fun with them.

Hallowtale Sans
Also known as just 'Hallow', Hallowtale Sans is well known as not only a jokester but also a trickster, his sneaky tricks easily getting him in trouble with the head of the Royal Guard and giving him a shady image that he only finds fun in. He usually seems to be in a good mood, hardly anything really bothers him and seems to be able to talk his way out of most things with other monsters. Though he doesn't prove to be the fighting type, he is more than willing to troll the player and even use his hidden powers to do so, proving to be a shady character despite he being a sort of un-official guide. The fact that the snow-covered pumpkin patch is so ripe and littered with growing pumpkins is because these fields are not only Sans' human-watching post but also because he has a grew skill at growing plants. With this skill of his, he has painted his thumbs green so he can make the joke that he has 'a couple green thumbs for it.' With his hidden powers, he relates more to his pumpkins than one would think despite he being more related to crows. With his powers active, (this more seen in a Genocide run), his left eye burns with yellow-blue flames and the curl at the end of his hat blazes with its own fireball that trails its fire when moved about. When in his power mode, his abdomen glows brightly, much like a jack-o-lantern, that shines through his normally black shirt and shows the dark forms of his ribcage inside. Along with his ribs, the silhouette of a second key is visible, this key's purpose turns out to be the 'master key' that opens every gate in the Underhallow, the key that could have saved any fallen human a lot of time if this trickster didn't hide it from them.

Not only does he use bones in his attacks, but he also uses his 'lantern fire' that he can breath out at will, pumpkin bombs that he can make grow as such a rapid rate that they literally explode in bomb-like violence and Gaster Blasters which are large, crow-based skulls that takes the part of the original blaster.  Even while on or off the battle field, Hallow Sans proves to be a very limber and acrobatic being, he being quick in his movements as he seems to teleport about the field, he even abling to float himself using his own power to give him a more laid-back and mysterious image. Relating back to the crow in scarecrow, Hallow wears a lot of crow feathers, his feathered scarf looking just like a wing though flows and acts like a normal scarf. The feathery fluff on his hat are actually folded up wings that are also still alive. When startled or aggravated, the wings on his hat and back of his belt will flap and flail like startled birds, this sometimes making his hat fly from his head and he having to be quick to retrieve it. When he is asked why his scarf only has 'one wing', he replies with a relating fashion of '*oh, i'm still working on making the other one, there's only so many good wings to tear apart.~' In Sans' fashion, the side clothing baring jack-o-lantern faces actually change with his mood, they mimicking not only his smile but how he's really feeling. This fact about him has him relate more to a jack-o-lantern that bares a soul within it, showing emotions.

His relation with his brother is a complicated one. With Papyrus being a part of the Royal Guard, he tends to want to impress Undyne with his duties, even if it comes to standing back while his brother is pushed, teased and sentenced different punishments for his lack of obedience. Though he doesn't show it, the Headsman feels great pity and sorrow that his brother was treated this way, he only showing how he truly feels and thinks when Undyne isn't around to hear him. They are still close brothers with their love strong, but their natures are also on the two opposite sides of the board that makes things complicated with their brotherly love and Papyrus' ranking in the Guard. Though he never really breaks the laws which he finds excitement and joy in treading those lines and isn't afraid to mock others when he feels 'attacked'. He is known to make crow and skeleton based jokes and, with the mind-set of seeing the eyes to the windows to one's soul, he has a tendency to look others right in the eye in attempt to read their emotions and decipher who they really are. This also relates to the horror that crows tend to like taking out people's eyes to which he finds enjoyment of collecting himself--much like Papyrus' head collection.

Think I typed enough for one night pfff.
Do let me know if this is something I should go deeper into, it is Halloween based with a touch of horror still within it but also has that Alice in Wonderland feel. Well, least I think so. This just started out as a design I just really wanted to draw out, but further detail with other characters is up to if a lot of my watchers want to know more.

Wow, omg, Digimon.
It's been so long since I've last seen that. <3

While I can kinda see the resemblance, I didn't base his outfit off of anything in particular. It was completely designed out from imagination.

Still in the works and parts of it will be posted up in my future art pile.
I got a lot of WIPs right now and I want to get them all done before I post anything more. More Hallowtale is on the way though!

Oh, it get much better too with each character addition. xD
Each monster looks even more 'monster' like whether it's in clothing or actual features. It's going to be a really fun project specially since it's Halloween-themed. In the more scary-horror kind of way. ;D

Quite honestly, I am in love with this AU! <3 The detail of the AU is amazing and definitely makes me want to know all about it! Plus the designs of the characters, such as Sans here, is quite beautiful!

Each character would be just as detailed, specially in their own unique themes. Like for Papyrus, though he's the 'Headless horseman', he keeps correcting everyone that he's the 'horseless headsman', because he surely still has his own head. xD His horse though, is a thestral--a creature that is invisible to the eye unless the viewer has seen death. In the Mercy run, Frisk hasn't seen death, thus this creature would be unseen but heard and felt. Not everyone in the Underhallow has seen death so most cannot spot this creature. Those who have not can see Papyrus riding around on nothing and his couple skulls he carries with him relates to his self-proclaimed title 'the horseless headsman.' I thought it was pretty neat. xD
