Description
Sorry for all the grammatical errors, I'm not really very good in the English grammar!!!Thank you a lot to for helping me to fix the grammar!!!
When I start this, I was so afraid of what could happen if I ost it, but I'm happy of doing right now!
Before someone say something like: WHO ARE YOU TO TELL HOW MAKE OCs?!?!?! Well, I not order you to read or follow what it says, I did this Tutorial for everybody that would like read it or for those new artists that doesn't know how start their stories and everything! Because today we seen so many gallery of people full of talent but that only does always bishonens or pretty girls (or boys that look like pretty girls), that doesn't risk to try new styles or ideas for fear of what other people could say!
So, if I insulted someone with this tutorial, I apologize and not take it personal because this is my opinion only!
Thank you a lot for your times guys! and thanks Frau for the advices!
ALRIGHT! I JUS CAN'T DO IT!! So, I will say it here! THANK YOU A LOT FOR ALL THE FAVS AT THIS TUTORIAL! You are totally awesome for it!!!

Usually a fanfiction term when someone writes the characters out of their usual character, like if someone wrote a Sailor Moon fanfiction and Sailor Moon was a highly intelligent and rude and mean librarian, or when someone just utterly ignores the character's personality. You can actually look up a lot of terms like this on wikipedia, they have a whole page for fanfic terms
Sorry to drop in and answer when I'm not the artist, but I just wanted to help out if I could c:

Thanks so much for your answer. ^_^ It is okay. Usually, when I ask a question, it doesn't matter who answers first, second, etc. I am just glad that someone is there to answer. However, I usually get an answer like few months after I ask a question, but this is the first time I ask a question today and someone actually responds like within almost two hours after my question. Thanks a bunch once again. ^_^

I find it rather ironic and redundant that one has to say "Original Character".
If your character is original, we'd call it "a character", regardless.
If your character is not an original creation, we'd say "fan character" or "blatant rip-off".

I love this! See, I'm writing a backstory for a D&D character, and of course the backstory is sad and depressing.
Instead of jumping into the archtype of sad/depressing past=dark and depressed person, I'm making my character act as if she has (mostly) moved on. She's better than letting her past define her in a bad way. It defines her, but makes her a better person. But she IS human (well...not human, but humanoid) and will sometimes get sad from it. We all would.
I personally like how you introduced ways to make archtypes more realistic. These things can define a person, but not EVERYTHING about a person.

Oh I love it! It's kinda anti-anime thing (I love it not because of that, I don't mind anime).
Yeah, that's the thing, those are the mistakes people do. Usually they "overgrow" this godmodes. And you are one of those people to whom I'd like to talk in the evening with a cup of tea and a muffin.
You know, when I do the character, I think of his background and ask myself "What a stereotypical fangirl will do on my place?". And do it the opposite way.
Therefore there's a cloned synthetic guy being held in the lab for the most of his life, who is quite cheerful, who says his creators were "kinda nice fellows" (not every scientist is bad, yes?), and is kinda jealous when it comes to his gf. Not a machine, not a monster, not an idealist, just a normal, but a bit stunned guy.
The favourite is, I guess, my and my brother creation, an elvish girl raised by humans. No pathos or all those noble elvish stuff, she's funny, lazy, a lil' selfish, a bit of a coward and a little sarcastic. The story's never boring when it comes to her with that "Go away, I don't want to save the freakin' city!"
There's such a fashion on depressed teens with dark future, that are cursed to live forever... :/ My characters are usually over 35, and the only teen-who-lost-his-parents-in-childhood I have is a shy unsteady guy, who works hard at school and has one wish: to go to the col college he chosen o_0 no revenge, or justice, or saving the world thing. He wants an education, a job, and a cat o_0 now I think he lacks something like telepathy or empathy, or superhuman muiseralesness (what a word).
Aaaah, sorry, I just couldn't hold back my indignation... I'm a roleplayer and I'm so sick of these bishie-guys (though my only teen is a bishie, but hey, he's a transvestite, he should be feminine!) with super-powers that can kill people with only thought, but make them soooo freakin' miserable

I would love to talk with you too, you seem like a really interesting person, I can give you may e-mail if you want!
your characters sound well worked, thta is really good it was funny the evilish girl, it kinda sounded like one story of me and my brother (he write A LOT) about a demon guy who LOVES hurt a lot of people at the same time, he is regular looking and probably in his early 30 and he has some sort of a "friend" (not really, but they talk quite much) who is an angel that lives on earth for being sarcastic on heaven (is a really nice story!)
I don't see the point of make your character's life a living hell, is really dump! and you are so right about that of the powers! that was the main reason of why I not longer read almost any comic!!

Great tutorial! It's is very helpful I think that when a person is making an OC, they shouldn't even THINK about classifications like "badass" or "cute perfect girl" or "nice loser." Because if any real was described like that, they'd be insulted. When I made my OCs I thought very deeply about who they are. A person could see my main OC in a drawing and describe her as "Serious, sarcastic, and defensive, but she probably is actually a nice person, cuz that's how it always goes." But that's so general it makes me cringe. I'd only scratch the surface by describing her as "A very deep person. She is outwardly sarcastic and stern, and is a bit controlling. But while many see that as how she is, it's actually just a shell that she hides behind. She's actually rather shy, and wants the same things that everyone else does. She wants love, even though she is outwardly very independent and seems to only need her own company. She has had to deal with a tragic past that no one else knows about. And she experiences the same feelings of hurt, jealousy, joy, sadness, etc, that everyone else feels." But that's only general personality. There is SOOO much more that makes her who she is. And with that description, I don't think anyone could put her into any stereotypical classification. There's just too much to her. But I could literally write 5 pages about her, so I'll stop now. Lol
This is a great tutorial primarily because it gives the message "Avoid stereotypes at all costs and make your OC human." I can't stand characters that aren't realistic, even in a fantasy setting. Super mature children just bother me, and girls that are all nice and perfect and do whatever they're told and never get mad (*cough cough* Tohru Honda *cough*) annoy me too. EVERY central and main character in a story should have an indepth background that the author can draw from to make the character realistic, and to make relationships between characters more realistic.
Wow, I could go on FOREVER about everything I see that's wrong with characters, or that's important with OCs. But you already made a tutorial about it, so why am I talking? Haha..XD

the way you described your character make it sound like really well worked and very interesting too! congratulation for it!!
that is exactly what I wanted to say, you doesn't have to stay with the basic idea of a character, you have to make it grow until is as good as any other person! thta is why the 90's cartoons where so great! they did this almost always!!
