Description
It's done...It's done, diddly, done. I think I'm going to cry...
I'm really happy with this tutorial, even though it looks cheap and dodgy (took me three days to make it, and even so it still looks cheap and dodgy), because I did everything myself! I figured out all the little buttons and liksies and everything, without even using the Flash tutorials! HEEE!
As I promised the peoplies out there who keep asking me 'How the HUCK do you colour like that?!', here's a little COPIC Tutorial for you. But just because I do it this weay, doesn't mean EVERYBODY has to. Get your own style! Develop individually! Be unique! AND DON'T STEAL MY WAYS! XDDD
Enjoy!

Yes.
Prismacolor Markers are almost identical to COPICS. This tutorial can apply to both. :3

This is totally useful! Thanks! ... now I want COPIC markers.... and pens.. >;-;< I got to mess with one of the pens once... :3 People tend to use different thickness to different parts of the picture. Can you make a tutorial on that? Please?

But when I first checked them out at the official site, they're just bloody expensive!!!
So what I'm practicing nowadays was how I'm gonna mimic COPIC markers digitally^^
And so far, the learning progress is very slow^^
Anyway, yeah this tutorial rocks
Great job^^

I think your tutorial is very well put together. You did an excellent job explaining how you do things. In fact, I'd have to say that this is one of the best marker tutorials I've seen. This one, combined with another one I saw a while back, really help to lay things out and make it easy for people to understand who don't normally use traditional media.
You mentioned the paper at the beginning of the tutorial, but there was no mention of it later on. Are there any specific brands (of porus paper) that you find works best with the techniques you use? I had dabbled around with markers and colored pencils in the past and found that none of it seemed to work well with the paper I used. I typically use a Canson drawing book, with 80 lb. cream paper. Drawing book, not sketchbook (the paper in the drawing books and sketchbooks seem to be a little different - the sketchbook paper is a little more rough in texture). Keep in mind that I don't know jack about paper. I just use the Canson books because they're sturdy.
If I bought Copic markers, I'd probably buy them off eBay. Though, they seem to be just about as pricey there as they would be from any other online store. That, and I doubt that there are any art stores here in my city that would even sell them. Do you have any advice on websites to check to get the best deals? Though, I assume you purchase yours from actual stores since there was also no mention of art supply websites in the tutorial also.

For buying the markers online, I'm afraid I'd have to leave you with nothing, because I have absolutely no idea where to get them from. Even so, I never buy anything off the internet because I don't own a card, so I think it's just a process of hunting down the better deals. Sorry. DX
As for the paper I use... Well, I'm not exactly sure of which brand it is, but I do use Drawing Books. I find that the paper is sturdy, and the thickness is quite good as well. Plus the texture is also quite grainy, which gives it a more... authentic look?
The Canson drawing book you're describing sounds quite good, actually. 80lb. is a nice thickness to use, I used paper like that a lot during my senior art class years, I found it works really well with inks (calligraphy-like ones) and charcoal as well. I'm just a little worried about the cream colour, though. I love cream, but if you're worried about the hues, it could affect your marker's final colours.
I seem to babble a lot. Sorry. XD I find that, with the specific 'realistic' techniques I use, the porous paper works best for me. But if I'm trying to get a quick, clean result that won't take as long, bleed-proof paper works really well. It's just a matter of how much time and effort I want to dedicate to something. If I want it to be a complete masterpiece (which I doubt something will ever be) I'd probably head towards the more porous. But you have to keep in mind that while the porous kind of paper is better for realism, it is far far FARRR harder to use than bleed-roof.
Ur... Did I answer your questions allright? XD

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Yes, you have been incredibly helpful, and I appreciate it a lot.
I would think that, based on your tutorial, I'd have an easier time using porus paper, so the colors could blend together better. I tend to shy away from anything remotely cel-shaded in anything I do because I never can seem to get it to look right. That's not to say that if I don't pick up a couple of copics or prismas, I won't try out different things.
I feel that the cream colored paper would make my drawings look a little bit more .. I dunno, "antiqued?" While I'm sure it'd be good for certain kinds of pictures, it wouldn't be appropriate for all of them. I'm sure I could find a Canson book with white paper, someplace. Or some other brand. Actually, in the different brands of sketchbooks I've used, I've always had cream-colored paper. I wonder why that is? Hum. Oh well, I'm certain I can find some good white paper to play around with too, and if nothing else I always have some leftover cardstock or plain old typing paper.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my questions. It's really great to get some feedback like that since I've always been sort of iffy about the kinds of paper to use with real media.

I bought Alex (hibikino) copics...last year....$200 worth of them for a present because I was feeling rich and he was being a nice bastard to me back then.
And you know what? He pulled the cap off one...made a few lines on a piece of paper to play with it.
...and he's never touched them again.
They sit there....and do NOTHING. )*#@$@#&$(*#&$(*#$

seriously, you won't understand the trauma XD
just tell him, that, when it comes to colouring and stuff like art, the first set of utensils you buy are practically "throw-aways" they're for you to experiment with and get used to :3 it's the second sets onwards that are really gonna be precious since you know how to use them already ^____^ or so i told myself when i learnt to paint D:

Ahhh... so THATS why I can't find any copic markers @_@ I dont think they sell them in the US in regular art/craft stores (they might somewhere, but not here XP)
The closet thing to them are Prismacolor markers (and colored pencils) which are expensive high quality looking goodness (and they're just about as close to the copic as you can get) would those also work with this tutorial (and they are double nib too)

Hi Squee. YES you can buy copics in the US but stores like A.C Moore and Michael's never carry them because I think they'd get stolen more than bought. You can go to www.dickblick.com to order them or find a local store.

I am now buying my Copics from my local art store, but it's a new store with a tendency towards newfangled and obscure products such as gold leaf and boar-bristle refillable brush pens. The bulk of my markers were bought online, along with their nifty and inexpensive plastic box-holder-majig, and that's probably still how most non-Japanese Copic junkies get their fix. I'm on the West coast of the USA; your mileage may vary.
