I think that's one good "Do not continue past this point" sign if I ever saw one.

Exellent... I am glad it can have that effect I don't know what it is either... I'll leave that open to interpretation. Thank you :>

Your usual dark humour blended with awesome. It is a mutated TV? That's my impression.

It is at least a relative of the television.
Thank you

I can relate to that. What I see in it, anyway. Like a Rorschach ink blot, I guess.
Lovely detail, concept, please accept my humble worship, etc etc.

Curious, what do you see in it?
And thanks

It makes me think of watching people when they're depressed, and how they develop this twisted perception of themselves, like they're repulsive, monstrous, loathsome. So when I look at this picture, it reminds me of the same thoughts I've had of myself, like standing back and saying, "Yeah, that was pretty fucked up, wasn't it?"
I'm also curious- what did you put into it for people to see?

zarathus In reply to Kalure [2007-10-27 11:41:59 +0000 UTC]
Interesting interpretation. Thats pretty similar to what I had in mind for it.
Basically the image itself didn't had any original meaning... was loosely based of a random doodle I did in 2004. Half way through painting it I came up with the name "distortion unit" which was based on pretty much what you mentioned. Depression, and sort of a "self" trapped inside its own disposition to negatively distort the image of itself, and essentially immobilising and bringing itself down through doing so.
The specifics of this picture really aren't symbolic, since I drew them before I had any idea of meaning for it. But I'll let people read what they like into it I think the name kind of hints in the "right" direction for any meaning, and just seemed to fit, when I came up with it.
I dunno. Maybe that sounds kinda wanky, but when I'm sitting and spending endless hours staring at the same picture, I tend to come up with all sorts of shit.

I think it's kinda fun to sit back and look at something you're working on, and see all kinds of potential meaning that you'd never intended when you started. Also for people to see their own meaning in things. Something as abstracted as this, everyone can take away their own meaning. And if not, well... it's still very shiny.

Oh, wow. That is so creative, it's kinda scary. I'm digging the mouse at the very bottom. *sigh* I'm so bad at watercolors, it would probably make Jesus cry.
Very sweet, otherwise.

Just amazing texture, I didn't know so much texture was possible with watercolors. I also just love the drawing, it's very thought provoking. Almost half-morbid and half puzzle-like. The little details of the rope, sticks, the tongue and the rat are just great.

Acheiving a lot of texturing and detail with watercolors is the same as any medium really... just takes a lot of time and patience. This took about 12 hours in total
Thank you!

Woah. Watercolor? Seriously? ...man. I wish I could pull off something half so good with those suckers. The color fade on the feathers and the fine detailing just blows my mind. And the textures you got here! Friggin' awesome.

Thanks. Yar, watercolors would probably be my favorite real medium to use for coloring :> Very time consuming though.

Why, its a distortion unit, of course.
No, its not really anything in particular. You decide
