Wow, how very curious a design. You always come up with the most "twisted" looking ideas X3 it's great. Though, I really like how you show more of how the bone spikes looks with the skin pulled away from it.

I love how unique your art is. The blend of organic and inorganic is great, and it's great how the picture leaves so many questions to be answered. Plus the anatomy and general design are amazing <3

Really, there wasn't any particular direction behind this. I randomly came up with the idea to draw something like this, and this is what happened
And yes, those are feathers, or at least features that are feather-like.

I feel so sorry for him D: but at the same time he doesn't seem very sad himself, looks like he's having a conversation with the little birds o3o
I love all the tiny strands you've done in the feathers and all the detail in his muscles are love <333 and of course that back and showing spine section is also love D: and gah I love the way you draw feet :B
