Description
Exiting VR interface...The room around you looks dusty and totally clutterd like a bomb has gone off you can't resist a cough, though it's difficult to do so. In fact impossible, until you realize you are still bathed in a fluid capsule. However it's severely cracked and you can feel the pull of highly viscous oxygen rich fluid exiting the capsule in gulps, tugging at your skin and around your ankles.
You also remember that somehow you were infected by a mysterious woman through the VR interface. You were able to change things in the real world and in the memories of people. And you were changing yourself.
You notice that you have grown a long cord out of your bellybutton, which currently goes to the base of the capsule and seems to be supplying you with nutrients. You notice that somehow in your VR stasis you have severed the original, plastic cord with your powers. Also the room is totally destroyed around you.
What do you do?
P.S. In chapter 1, basically you were infected, got access to telekinesis and some basic shapeshifting abilities and it's affect your body in the real world somehow. enjoy.
Please just make a post!

As you spoke, you noticed it was extremely difficult to do so, though your words eventually all came out. It was like you had been under heavy sedation and your tongue just seemed to not move rapidly enough, nor did your lips. All that time and mental effort spent communicating without use of your actual body, and perhaps an actual sedative to selective parts of your body to keep you from injury during the VR situation had somehow made it infuriatingly hard to communicate. As you leaned on the glass and began pulling the tubes out, they were painful to remove due to the glues that held them in place. But you were soon free.
another voice you hadn't heard before, a distant nasally voice with a bit of humor in it chimed in.
"We haven't even had time to fully review your tapes. At the moment we're just settling in. You might as well have your freedom. We can afford to have a little infection risk for the last few moments of our lives"
After a few moments you could see through the fog on the glass tube just as a hand pressed against it from the outside. "Let's get you out of there, stand back."
You could feel the glass shifting.

I stand in the center of the tube as best I can, trying as best I can to not touch the sides as they begin to move out of the way... until I see the owner of the voice.
"First... argh, stupid tongue... clothes. This is just... nope"
It's pretty clear I am not happy about being in a skin tight suit, even without the tubes that had been inside of me for who knows how long. On that thought...
"How long... was I... in... there? It felt, like... maybe a day, or two"

"Actually that's about right." Said a balding man, about forty five with a prominent nose and a mustache. He helped you step out of the tube. "It's been five days in all. Days are shorter on Charon II" He nodded agreeably. "You shouldn't eat for at least two hours. Also, I haven't seen the others for a few minutes. I'm not sure where they went."
"They decided to climb to Star Peak before it gets dark. They want to be watching the sky when our execution occurs" said Vira solemnly. The voice was much less blaring out here and it seemed to come from a little dusty speaker by the computers behind the researcher.
"Oh, I'm Dr. Ted Robins. I never spoke to you directly. But really it's an honor to work with you. What you did in there is just phenomenal." He motioned for and helped you to the shower. "There's a fresh set of clothes here that I'm leaving. It's pretty minimal, but it's all you brought with you when you arrived. I left your wallet and personal things in the lock box which...I also brought. I thought it would be weird to open it for you, it's your stuff and all. Anyway..." he bowed out and left.

Before he leaves... I return the bow, as best I can.
"Ted. Thank you"
Now freed from my tube, I take of the under suit, and after a nice warm, half hour shower, I get changed into a pair of long black pants, and a Red polo shirt... shortly after, pulling on a pair of thick socks, followed by worn boots, of an older military style.
"That's better... now for my things... what did I decide to bring in the end? I don't think I brought much"
Going through the lock box, I find my wallet, an old mechanical watch, a small, rectangular object with a glass screen, and a small knife, the blade 9 centimeters long... then I look to the old speaker.
"Vira. A question, if only to sate my curiosity. I studied a lot of older, historical weapons, vehicles, and tactics while on Earth in my youth, a sort of hobby, if you will... though I have little in the way of knowledge about more modern weapons, as I didn't find them as interesting. We are going to be killed by... a portable black hole bomb? How does it work?"
(If she can show me a sort of diagram of some kind, I can find out if it will explode on contact, or have some sort of timer... or some other form of detonation mechanism)
"For that matter, how will it be delivered? My guess is aircraft, or from orbit"
(Vira will probably be suspicious... knowing what she does... I will attempt to change the subject)
"How much time do we have left?"

As the radio began, you instantly felt a stab of concern for yourself, from her. It was a jarring feeling that seemed to cause your vision to adjust, the light seemingly too bright for a moment.
"You want to know how it's gonna happen? I see." You notice a pounding in your head that seems to be holding an image of relief that you are only curious, even if you aren't only curious...she didn't know that. "Actually, the bomb was deposited below this base fifty years ago. It's activation is classified as is it's...ah, execution. But if you would like to look at it, go ahead!" You get a notification on your rectangular object with a glass screen that says you have something to download. You notice a piercing headache and then it suddenly went away. You could still sense Vira's emotions, but the price was paid. She began to be slightly suspicious. "five hours almost exactly." she said it and seemed to be waiting on guard for you to ask more. After a moment you could sense she was simultaneously afraid of and protective for you. "I'm very sorry this had to happen this way..." her voice trembled.

I download the file... and take a look over it. At Vira saying she's sorry...
"If we had known the cost of what we were doing... do you think this project would still have gone ahead?"
In the meantime... I open up a second program on the phone like object, audio only... it plays some music that is familiar to me through it's speakers. Internally, I am wondering about why I am hearing her thoughts, and try to ignore them, block them out as much as I can.
"And in the end... it doesn't matter anyway. I have mostly lived my life to the fullest, despite my past. It's been fun while it lasted"
I go back to looking at the plans... cocking my head to the side.
"Remote activation... of course. Timers are fallible... though it has a back up one, even if it receives the slightest signal... no way to prevent it from detonating, if that timer's gone off. Looks like if the detonation mechanism, if tampered with at all, it will detonate immediately. Pretty impressive, and almost needlessly complex for what amounts to a big bomb. Almost"
(soundcloud.com/jafet-meza-comp… ... Because halo would probably still be around in one form or another, especially in my youth)
I know there is little I can do to prevent detonation, at least conventionally, and that is apparent as I continue to look over the plans, both to me, and to Vira.
"Impressive technology, to be able to receive a signal while underground. Tamper proof, and highly inaccessible, being underground somewhere, let alone the casing... Better make use of this last 5 hours or so. You mentioned the researchers going to star peak... any other places that have a good view of the stars?"

Vira paused, not answering your first question. When you asked your final question about the stars she finally said what she had been hiding. (love the music btw. kind of a perfect back drop to a dramatic moment)
"You should probably be aware that...I actually am able to tell you this only because during this project I was able to breach my own protocols...I'm a full-blown A.I. now...anyway, you should be aware that there is another attempt that will begin as soon as our data is analyzed completely. Your...sacrifice is appreciated and though it might seem like it isn't necessary...we could still save an entire habitable planet. It's like a new Ceres..." She sounded like she was slightly ashamed of the whole program, and a bit defensive. "I...need you to understand that I greatly admire what you've done while in the VR projector. Despite the fact that your pseudo-physical body was changed, you soldiered on. And...to be honest, I think our next run will probably involve myself or one of the other few fully realized A.I.'s in operation. This is all classified, you see. I just...you should have known, should know." She sounded like she was going to cry, but nothing happened. She had no instinct to actually do so. Instead she was quiet.
"Star Peak is a great place to see the night sky, but honestly, they say the beach just south of here is good too. We're far enough away from the port that the operation lights won't interfere"

I smile.
"I could tell you were different from normal Virtual assistants... I've dealt with them before. And thank you Vira... for being honest, I will do the same. I had intended to prevent the bomb from going off, as stupid as that idea is... but it seems nearly impossible to do so without direct access to it. I... don't want to die. But that isn't an option, not anymore. But you? You can leave whenever you want, you are made of 0s and 1s, lines of code that now interact with each other like a human brain... and you cannot be infected"
(Unless Vira says anything else, I will leave, and head south, towards the beach... Even if she does reply, I will probably say something brief before leaving, acknowledging what she says... unless it is particularly important or useful information)
The beach is largely empty, save for one or two camp fires in the distance... easily over 500 meters away, if not further. I find literally anywhere to lie down, hands behind my head, looking to the stars... I don't recognize any constellations, they appear different from Ceres than they did from Earth, and sigh, seeing maybe some alien bird fly overhead, I sigh again.
"I miss flying... I miss my family, what little of it remains... maybe it is my time, truly. But... I would love to fly, one last time"

As you walked lied down, her voice began to "infect" your tablet device. "You had intended to stop it? How? ...um...Puck...I just processed the last of the data. I think I need your opinion on this. Let me know if you are willing to commit treason...for the Anasazi...or not"
In the silence of the night, you could almost hear the stars. Strangely, even out here you could hear the thoughts of Vira shifting in and out of your mind uncontrollably. She seemed to be having a crisis of faith of some kind. Faith in her design, in her purpose, which was her mission. You would sense her in the sand at your fingertips. The rock in your side was her fear of not existing. The fact that she had no body. She knew something about the mission. She knew how you had gained the trust of Nuza, who she somehow loved dearly now. Her processes seemed lightning fast and would disconnect from you from moment to moment.
She didn't have a plan. Instead she had several that were being cultivated at once. She seemed very patient for your input, but you could feel that none of these options meant seeing your family again.
Something about acting fast, getting you back into the VR projector but enacting it on this island. THere was a twinkle of confidence in her mind that she was actually really a perfect vessel, rather than you.
The waves sounded like your own thoughts, wishing they were alone.

I move the rock away from my side, tossing it into the ocean, before replying to Vira... almost annoyed that I had resigned to my fate, and that she wanted me to change it now.
"What do you want me to do, Vira?"
I remain lying on the sand, staring at the stars, mulling over weather to say what I am thinking... before continuing, despite me asking Vira what she wanted me to do. It was more the details I needed, the basics, I could already guess.
"... You want to be impregnated by Nuza, don't you? To... try to extend your own existence. If I was to guess, you aren't able to be transferred outside of this island, despite you lacking a physical form that could be infected... you have a mind. Sentient enough to accept the egg, at any rate... and you could have a psychic form. Hmm"
I remain mostly un-moving, except for my eyes, tracking one of many bird like creatures that are flying around... if I have the means, I will give them the impression that the island is dangerous, and they should fly as far away as they can, while also considering turning my tablet off, if only to have some peace and quiet...
"Why the sudden change of heart anyway?"
I my mind, I know none of Vira's plans will help me... they will help Nuza, perhaps, or Vira... but not me, not as far as I am concerned.

She began to speak but was interrupted by you telling her what she wanted to happen. There was a long pause where you could feel her becoming agitated and ready to speak, but she was calm.
"Close. Actually, this is quite disturbing. You can read my mind can't you?" There was a long pause in which you could feel her fear turning to fascination, her pain to an exercise in persistence.
"I actually never considered that possible, but that confirms my theory...I am a mind, like you. However, as your...apparently infected mind may have guessed....honestly I thought that you were free of the infection as soon as we pulled you out...but this quarantine and the subsequent execution of the members of the island makes a lot of sense now..." There was a long pause, you couldn't quite recognize her thoughts. A bird you were staring at fluttered and fell into the ocean.
"The other scientists were near you and exposed to this 'word', or signal that perpetuates the Anasazi, so they are definitely infected, just not as far along as you are. Keeping the infection here through quarantine makes sense because there is still work to be done and intuitive minds can recognize patterns faster than the algorithms we have working on the data. Plus, the teams of scientists who are working deciphering all of it now are completely removed from the situation, granting them both a less biased perspective and a distance from Nuza and the anasazi that prevents them from having motivation to save their species. They also are not in a position to "hear" the signal or be infected, and therefore can do nothing about it. I would be a perfect candidate to study the Nuza because as far as we know, AI beings don't have the biological limitations of the mind that the signal messes with...however I don't have a body. Any other AI or VI would be perfect for the job except for the fact that they also have the same limitations of the scientists off this island. I have already been infected probably, and therefore, even though I don't have a body and won't be affected, could probably infect other systems. Therefore we all should either all be destroyed, as directed, or go with the more logical plan and continue our study of the anasazi, but in a quarantine, in secret."
You could feel a pain in your head again and in your eyes. It was as if your powers were Athena trying to come out of your Zeus brain.
"I just need a body to make it work. And the bomb...you and I together with Nuza's power could turn it into a quarantined zone. No one would know that it was a pocket dimension. I know the protocols. I've been researching them out of regret and rebellion on the side just in case I thought I would need to...have other options. If we're ever found out, well, we're still executed. But our data could still be produced. We would just need to transmit it somehow." You could feel her jumping faster and faster. She was thinking of using the VR projector to have you visit earth, to see family, to...visit the Anasazi Homeworld? Was that even a place?

I seem a little surprised when the bird fell into the ocean, but remain largely attentive.
"Data could probably be transmitted the same way we were getting signal on Charon II..."
I get up, collect anything I might have left on the sand, and jog back to the Lab
"For the record, I am not getting back in that tube if I can avoid it... But, you need a body... which I assume means"
I stop, clutching at my head for a moment as what feels like a nail is driven... out of my skull. Then a second.
"Me... might need a moment... and Anasazi Home world? It makes sense that there would be one, but how... how do you plan on getting there?"
I keep trying to block out Vira's thoughts... trying, being the operative word.
"Don't suppose... that even passive psychic abilities... cause physical pain?"

TR-219 In reply to ZephyrStranded [2017-06-17 07:22:50 +0000 UTC]
(Thanks, and I would agree that this should end sooner, rather than later. As for how to end it... Vira can't read Puck's thoughts. And while he is... somewhat, agreeing to help for now, that doesn't mean he will continue to do so. Depending on what happens next, such as a sudden transformation into a Anasazi like being from powers he cannot control, he might decide to detonate the bomb... because he isn't exactly a fan of helping the spread of a potentially hostile species. On the other hand, he wants to live. If a feasible option of escape is available, he can, and will take it, and that would probably be a good place to end it.
Though the first of those options is the last resort, so to speak... Final option being a small community of infected is formed on the island, and can be used for study by the inhabitants.... It kind of depends. Do we want a "Good" ending? or... a"Bad"ending. Bad probably being the destruction of the island, or the spread of Anasazi to Earth... which will likely cause a repeat of Charon II)
Edit: (To be honest, I thought I wasn't doing enough sometimes. Here you are, giving me so much information, so much time put into it, and my replies are one or two sentences, not including actions outside of text)

(You're definitely one of the best I've RP'd with before. I very much appreciate your initiative and thorough replies. I think you usually reply a little longer than me, but maybe that's because when I write it out it looks different than when I read your replies? Who knows. Either way, bravo!)
Vira's voice suddenly seemed crackled as she spoke on the speaker nearby. "I need you to get inside that tube for the greater good here. If you get in, I can override the manual application and allow you to get situated without having to suit up. Don't worry about how I intend on getting us to the homeworld. I haven't worked it out just yet. But your powers are getting more intense the longer you are outside the tube. If you could live your life in the VR environment, we could go anywhere together. Can you imagine? But the first thing we need to do is get in there so I can connect to you directly. Then I can use your connection with Nuza to get things going again." She sounded very certain of her plan and you could feel that she was excited to become embodied.

(Not a problem to the single paragraph... as for why my replies seem longer, it might have to do with my judicious use of spacing between actions, and dialogue... as an aside, dialogue is better on new lines, makes it easier to pick up if it's being said, or it's an action. Or at least, that is my opinion... correction. You seem to be doing that)
I continue jogging up the to the lab, after finding two unfamiliar protrusions on my head... I need a mirror, to see exactly what's going on. And I am pretty sure I saw one within the lab somewhere, maybe near a sink, or near the shower.
"You... really want to have a body, at least in some form... but I don't want to live in the realm of psychics. I would be little better than Nuza, trapped in stone for eternity. That, and I really hate that tube... so cramped, so confined. I want to be free"
I had already inside the laboratory at this point... mumbling something under my breath.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall... heh... that's new"
I feel over my head, both seeing and feeling the two horns that seemed to have grown through. They were short and stubby, barely poking through my hair, but bone white... when I pulled my my hands away, they appeared to have a little blood on them, possibly from where they came through my scalp.
"That's... not good... not good at all... Vira? What are you doing?"

"I'm currently running quite a lot of sub-routines, so it's hard to answer that question. Again, I don't have a location, but right here in the lab I'm warming up the servos in the tube for quick insertion. If we can solve the bigger problem, the others can help you get fully suited up while you're under. Once you get in there, I'll begin to use the protocol I've been writing. Imagine that. I've been writing a protocol"
She sounded giddy. You could feel that she was very excited about being one with you. She was thinking about Nuza and how she wanted to be inside you the way Nuza had been, but knew that was just a fantasy. She then was excited that she had had a fantasy.
"Are...are you okay Puck?"
You could see yourself but there was dust all over you and as you moved, the dust stayed still in the air. After a moment it became clear that this was a camera view you were seeing. THe headache became more severe and the edges of the glass began to crack.
"Oh no...it's progressing very quickly...YOU HAVE TO GET IN THE TUBE NOW SO WE CAN STABILIZE YOU!" she said. You were now able to read your thoughts, which were reading themselves like a book and those were reading themselves. It was a quickly spiraling, tightening staircase that you were falling down. And then it seemed to let up.

I shake my head momentarily in front of the mirror... after nearly falling into my own head?
"Ok... try not to think about it... calm..."
Sighing, I turn to the tube, as I get my thoughts under control, focusing on Vira's thoughts, and not my own
"What's even the point? Living a life in VR is not really a life worth living... but you seemed really exited, when you were explaining it all... To answer your question? No, I am not ok. I don't like the situation I have found myself in, I don't like being able to read peoples thoughts"
I begin heading towards the tube.
"This is all so surreal"
I take my valuables out of my pockets, and leave them on a nearby table.
"But... I like living. Albiet living in a tube for the rest of my life... I know, it won't seem like it. But to me, knowing that I will be in... there, for however long, is silly. That, and the bomb's still going to go off, preventing me from seeing earth with my own eyes ever again... but I can always ask you to pull me out, right? If so... I will do it"

The tube remained open, but the headset dropped down, falling into place. The strap for your head seemed more awkward to get on than it had been to take off, but then you remembered that you were very much in a state of confusion when you came out the first time so that didn't make sense. It was a different helmet.
"This one doesn't 'remember' your previous attempt in the system. If we used the last one it wouldn't allow you in because it's all pre-loaded for your body's settings. This one is...well, was the prototype."
As you put it on, you noticed the suspensors coming into place to hold you up. The headset began to pull it's own way, it's gyroscope activating, and then you were in blackness.
There in blackness you noticed a blinking point like the point of a pen, glowing.
"Okay Puck, I need you to draw a mirror for me and look into it."
In this state you still could read her thoughts, strangely. They were eager to get inside your body, to be one with you. To have a point of reference.

"A mirror... what... you mean a rectangular shape... you seem far too exited about this"
I grab the blinking light/pen with my right hand, and draw a rectangle... and stare at it.
"What do you mean, this is the prototype? And I get that the newer model wouldn't work... but why do you still have this one around?"
I stop looking into the mirror for a moment, and begin to sketch out something at random... it starts with a few lines, somewhat curved... but with a little time, it turns into an old, really old biplane, a 3D model I can interact with, to a limited degree.
"Huh... this looks like a proper plane... ah, a classic Tiger moth. No weapons on this one, used by the RAAF to train their pilots before and during WWII"
I look back to the mirror, still confused as to why.

As you looked at the mirror, you noticed your own reflection appear, looking confused. Then you could see the hands on your shoulders. They were as white as stone. From behind you in the mirror poked a woman's face with extremely feminine features and perfect black hair swept to one side. She even had a braid. Her lips were pink and her eyes stood out like muddy blips on her white face. She smiled.
"hello. Now, I love what you did with that airplane...but if you could just reach back and touch my hand, we'll be in business"

"Ok... this is a little weird... then again, nothing compared with the stuff that was happening earlier. And how will this work anyway? Are you stuck with me on this little adventure, or free to go your own way?"
I feel the cold stone on my shoulders and underneath my hands... but try not to shy away from the cold.
"You feel... cold. One might say... stone cold"
I smile as I say that, as I turn around to face Vira... noticeably avoiding looking at anywhere but her face.
"I will admit... you do look beautiful... I never did end up with a wife. Teenage sweethearts, sure... but I never found the time, or effort, required to keep a relationship like that going... guess I have all the time in the world now... I still feel like I am being used, for some reason"

She nodded, "It's okay...you can feel that way."
You noticed as you turned around that you could in fact only see her head and her hands floating in the air. She smiled, her head at your height.
"We will be together as long as it takes to get all this figured out. As far as you and me and our relationship...let's not worry about that at this moment, okay? It might make things more complicated if we experiment with that."
If you glanced in the mirror, you could see more of her and then if you looked back you could see more of her again. It was a strange arrangement.
"I wrote this program to...bring myself into virtual space. Neither one of us exists at the moment. Right now we are occupying the same spot. What we need to do is become one. To this end I need you to look back in the mirror for me, and focus on what you see..."
She gently moved your arm down with her cold hands and then reached up and placed her chin on your shoulder, her lips beside your ear. She spoke softly, "Now if you could just look at your hand for me..."
(if you looked at your hand, you would see her hand move instead of yours and her arm attached at the base of where your arm was. Your arm seemed to be simply unnoticeable)

"As far as I was concerned, our relationship is a strictly business related one. For now"
Internally, this seems like a bad idea. Losing my own body so Vira could have hers... it means we would be switching positions, and I am not sure how I feel about that. Regardless, I stare at my own hand, which is now her stone white one, then up my arm...
"This can be reverted, right?"
As I continue to look over myself, more and more of me is replaced by Vira's living stone body. With each part added, I lose more control, until I am at the point where only my hands and head are visible in the mirror, mostly separate from Vira's full body. We had practically switched positions...
"This is a little weird"
I say, looking down at where my body, and legs, should be, seeing nothing. Vira can see my clear concern at this new state of being.
"Kind of like records of older VR systems I saw on Youtube... it's strange after having a full body in here"

"It can absolutely be reversed, don't worry."
You noticed that she was looking at you in the mirror now.
"You've just been minimized, in a way, while I've been expanded. You won't be visible in this form, but you have a limited range around me for communication with your face and hands. You exist as a secondary projection of your body, while I exist where your body normally would be projected." You can feel as she's talking that she's slightly disappointed that she didn't get more of a rise out of the experience, but her thoughts are stirring as she let her eyes and hands scan her body. She looked as if she was naked, but more like a manikin than a naked, flesh and blood woman.
"Okay, let's emplace us and then I'd like you to immediately make contact with your friend Nuza mmmkay?"
Suddenly the area around you began to shrink and the floor shifted into place until you were standing beside yourself in the lab. You could see your body with the headset. You strangely could feel the warmth of the place on your body as if you were existing in full-body, and as you moved around it was as if your body was invisible beneath you. If you crouched, your head and hands came lower, if you stood tall, it was higher. Bumping into her body momentarily gave you the sense that your invisible body was like a pocket of warm air. Insubstantial yet. registering.

"Yay for being invisible again... If we want her attention, I think going back to Charon II, in the present, is our best bet, though maybe I can get her to come here"
I do a little messing around with Vira, running a finger down where her spine should be, starting from her neck, ending roughly at her abdomen.
"This is extremely similar to older VR experiences... while I can feel my body, and it has some effect on the world, and on you... it is nearly inconsequential"
Noticing Vira's disapointment, I smile.
"What, you think taking over my body is anywhere near the experience that linking with Nuza provided? There is nothing on earth, and probably the rest of the colonies, that even comes close to that, as strange as it was. Speaking of"
I try to send a message to Nuza, asking them to come join us in our present... it's more based on my thoughts, wanting to speak with her again about something urgent, something that could prevent her from reviving her race. In the meantime... I move around to in front of Vira, and try moving my left arm into her body, around the same position where my clam mouth had been, where Nuza had linked with me. If successful, I seem to pat around her insides for a moment, before withdrawing.
"That might be close though"

"I'd...like to experience that some day." She said, "Honestly, I'd like to either construct my own body someday when I have access to a manufacturing facility so equipped. It sounds like a beautiful experience to...unite with anyone."
As you reached your arm into her, you feel nothing, though there is that puff of resistance. Like a weak magnetic repulsive force.
Just thinking about Nuza and saying the anasazi's name in your mind brought a clear picture to mind. Nuza seemed to respond after a moment, as waking up suddenly from a slumber. Nuza was really old for some reason.
You can feel a response coming, but it seems to hit you in a strange way. You can feel the thoughts hitting Vira first. Vira suddenly stood erect. "hmm"
You could feel both thoughts mixing with each other at first in a strange emotional cacophony that resembled a moment of embarrassment for a moment, but failed and ended up being very formal and cold. You could feel Nuza trying to maneuver around to communicate with you, and you could feel the intention-- the longing for you and the frustration of being stopped.
"Easy...easy" Said Vira

"This might not be going to plan... Nuza's trying to make contact, but is so far unsuccessful. At a guess, it's because you are inhabiting where I am supposed to be... she seems older than I remember too"
Thinking back on what Vira had said earlier... I consider drawing up a basic plan for a machine, but stop halfway through. The diagram had dimensions, and was roughly human in size and shape, mirroring the current appearance of Vira as much as a half finished AI body could be.
"I could probably make you a physical body, provided tools and time. It wouldn't be particularly elegant, but functional. Saying that, being out of this world seemed to have a rapid effect on my biology"
I try to reach out, psychically, to Nuza instead of her bouncing off of Vira... in my own mind, I sympathize with her. What little family I had left on Earth had no idea about where I was or what I was doing on Ceres... or my current predicament. I almost wished I could contact them, but that could be done later... right now, there was a possibly annoyed pshycic being trying to contact me specifically, or at least that is how it seemed.
"We may want to switch back over again. You are an unfamiliar face, no... mind, to them"

Vira shook her head, "no, this is just a minor hiccup. Keep trying to contacting her and we'll be fine...I ...wow...what was that?"
Vira turned and looked at you.
You could feel Nuza reaching out to you, but unable to actually access you into a vision. You could see Nuza under ground. She turned and looked at you. You could feel her confusion mixed with the excitement and frustration of Vira. It was a big mess.
"I...I can see her" Vira said. "She's... frightening"
Oddly though, Vira was not frozen in fear, but attracted to the apparent fear. You could see that Nuza was both frightened and angry. Vira suddenly turned to look at you. "Use her name. She'll use your name and we can fix this mess. We only have two hours before the explosion and we need to start working on it using her, or...it's powers. If we can just make contact with Nuza we'll be able to switch the bomb to preserve your lives. Meanwhile I'll be able to preserve you from getting worse! Haven't you noticed that your symptoms have arrested once I got you into the VR chamber? You shouldn't be getting worse anyway..." She looked at you briefly, but was mostly transfixed by the vision. "Now is the time to act"

"You're experiencing a vision, if you couldn't already... hold up. First you steal what amounts to my body, then expect me to let you use Nuza's power... no, expect her to let you abuse her power without explanation? This is not going to end well... You seem quite exited, but she is far from it. Frightened, probably from being unable to contact me directly like she's used to, and angry... pissing off our chance of living is kind of big problem"
I am staring at Vira, and would cross my arms... if not for the lack of them. Though I do so anyway, at least it makes me feel a little better about what I say next, a little more forceful than before
"Give me my body back, and let me handle this... You didn't even check if my physical body is Ok, I can tell. So preoccupied on the vision of Nuza's form, that you refuse to do anything else"
It takes me a moment to realise I had used her name a couple times... and I whack myself in the face, albeit fairly softly, because of it, my palm open and in contact with my face.
"Damn it. This is still going to end badly"

(sorry for the super long delay.)
Nuza turned and looked at Vira as if she had said something and Vira jolted as if hit in the chest.
"ooh...that was not what I was expecting...." she arched her back and began to shake, her strange artificial body barely able to handle the psychic energy coursing through her.
"Puck" reverberated from Nuza and you could feel her connect to you through Vira like a lightning rod. Suddenly you felt Nuza reaching out to you, but adjusting as she saw that Vira was blocking the way. Suddenly her rage began to give way to an ageless longing for you, a desperation for connection. You could feel begin to exercise her powers.
Your body began lift in the tube area, the little glass that covered you partially cracking and lifting away. The body began to be tugged, the mask jerking on your body's head.
Vira shouted. "no, don't do that, you'll kill him! You want him to be safe, don't you?"
Suddenly Nuza's voice hit VIra, and you could hear it in her head, "If you wanted him to be safe, you wouldn't have signed him up for this experiment, would you? There are so many things that could change and you had so little knowledge of those things that you needed a guinea pig. You and your people used him. You don't think I can see how it would have been for him had he never been in your tube? I'm taking him out of it."
Vira shook her head. "no, no, we wanted him to be safe the whole time, that's why we gave him all the protocols and why I brought him up here to be in the tube again. He's channeling his powers into this VR avatar, so he's safely in remission."
"Liar, I can feel the inside of you. You have had him evoke my name and I have evoked his name so that you could use my power, not so he could be safe. If you wanted him to be safe, you would have gone yourself in the first place, you would have been the perfect vessel for my people. But I see you are young and brilliant, and foolish. You wanted to be embodied, but you were too afraid to kill it once you started one. You knew that a trip to ...Charon the second is a one way trip for any body. To leave there is to die.
Vira shook her head, "Get out. GET OUT!"

(Holy hell... the long delay was worth it. Not the longest I have waited for a reply for a RP either... this is going to be a fun few minutes)
With so much going on, I am little more than an observer for most of it... Vira doesn't seem to realize the power of a psychic race, and that grows more clear with each passing second, as I listen to the two of them... before I finally interject. Nuza, linked with me as she is, can probably tell I have something in mind, if only to fully comprehend what is going on here, and how little I was told, versus how much Vira and the scientists knew. Also get her to admit to her wrongdoings... I do have a sense of justice. How it is dealt out, will be up to Nuza.
"Nuza, if you don't mind... stay your hand for now. As for you..."
I move in front of Vira, staring into her eyes, the glowing point of light that was the pen from earlier ready to be used to take notes on what she says in response to my upcoming questions. They will be written down word for word, or slightly shortened to the most important sections of information within her responses.
"You said it yourself, any full AI would be a better match for the system, for mating with Nuza, than me... This brings to mind a few questions, a few holes in the information I have received, and I want you to answer them truthfully. let's start with a simple one. Did you know the risks of sending in a human test subject?"
Nuza can tell, that I am thinking back on everything Vira has, or hasn't said. When I said we had dug too greedily, and too deeply... she seemed to not react, as if this was an expected outcome. If anything, she was surprised the physical changes that occurred in VR happened as fast as they did... and that there might have been two subjects before me. After receiving an answer from Vira whether she was aware of the consequences, I continue with my questioning, never letting her look away, never giving her an indication of how I feel about how she responded
"Ok... prior to all of this mess, you mentioned that there was at least one other person who had tested the system. What happened to them, why were they not able to contact Nuza... and if they were changed... what happened to them? Do not leave out any details"
Both Vira and Nuza can probably tell I am quite calm, for some reason. As if I am detached from this whole situation, looking at it as analytically, and as unbiased as possible... In Nuza's case, she can tell I feel somewhat betrayed, knowing she held some information from me, even though I can understand why.
"The first thing you said, before Nuza invoked my name... You honestly didn't expect her to use you? I told you repeatedly to return my body back to me... and yet you ignored me, when in the past you listened. In the past, you gave a damn. Did you even understand what you were doing, denying contact?"
With each question I ask, the more relaxed I am... though I am wary of what could be coming next. What is Vira planning... and why did she need to claim my VR avatar?
"A few more questions, and then we are done here. The bomb. Is it a real threat? Or just some other false claim... to be honest, I would have rathered it go off, than be used... but here we are. As an addition to the bomb, being one of the many protocols put in place... they were never for my safety, were they? More to prevent something from going wrong, or contain it if it got out of hand"
I am trying to gauge her reactions, both physically and with a little psychic reading... though in the event Vira lies, or leaves out any applicable information during this interrogation, I send to Nuza that she is free to do as she wills to Vira... once the interrogation is done.
"And finally... You could probably create your own avatar in this world, without me, and done whatever you wanted, contacted Nuza with ease. Why then, did you take my body? How does it help you achieve whatever goals you may have, to not only do that, but piss off what I can only assume is the last of a species?"
Having received the final response, I take a moment to process what I had heard... and step away from Vira
"Thank you for your co-operation... I am done asking my questions"
(BTW... if you feel like it, Nuza could ignore me, or I could not be heard at all... while taking control away from me as a player, with little I can do except watch, would kind of suck, it would also make some sense, since Vira nicked my body)

The convulsions in Vira caused her to rise to the ceiling so that you were looking up as you spoke to her and she was looking down at you, the ceiling panels cracking until you asked Nuza to ease off. You could feel Nuza hesitate and then there was a feeling of trust, and then of deepest pleasure and trust, and then the flicker of excitement like a cat playing with a toy. As you spoke with Vira, there was a strange growing sense that she was listening to you, but she was listening to something else inside of her as well. Something you could only sense as an awareness at first.
She nodded when you asked if she knew the risks of sending human subjects. She gritted and spoke, slowly, gasping. You could feel she had an unexpected pleasure at this physical sensation, the reality of this moment. She had imagined a scenario like it once over a few milliseconds.
"They...died...in simulation. We never had one get as far as you did to the Anasazi, but we had six before you, three of which had their avatars terminated by accidental exposure to either the signal itself through contact with mutated humans, or through trying to dive into known psychics.
Nuza suddenly groaned. "Liar....you assassinated psychics because they were spreading the Word faster. You wanted to stop people from dying..." she was weeping with anger.
"...the last one was almost killed...we maimed him pretty badly, but he survived. His memory was altered slightly...he didn't remember the incident. You met him" she said gasping. Nuza backed off again so she could speak better.
Nuza turned to you, "You can hear me through her, can't you? I didn't hold anything back. I couldn't give you all that I knew, but I didn't know all this until now. I haven't met this being until now and now I know her. You have a choice." She left it at that.
She seemed to ignore your question about contact, looking away angrily. You could feel her seething inside. She was deeply jealous. She craved the contact you had had in your brief interlude with Nuza. She yearned for it. She was willing to throw much away, including her licensing to get at it, since she was a free VI at this point.
She whispered.
"The bomb is very real. You very little time before it goes off. I..." You could feel that her awareness from before had somehow come to a realization. She was strangely able to feel your knowledge of her thoughts, but shook that knowledge off. She then became aware of things all around that you couldn't contain in your mind. It was broad and it purred in it's connection to Nuza. She was using the power to do something.
At your question about the avatar, she broke off her concentration and turned to look at you, staring, her eyes ablaze with something that looked distant, excited, and stared past you. "You misunderstand...I can't create an avatar that can channel psychic energy. Even if I had a robotic body I wouldn't be able to get into the tube myself..." You notice your body is sliding across the room a little, the cord making it swing on the fulcrum of the cordage that were attached to the helmet, like a body drifting in psychic ocean currents. "Your psychic signature runs throughout the structure of your body. Your brain is just a part of your mind. I am just a brain, but scattered throughout many devices, lacking any of the visceral, palpable, felt experiences of...reality. If I were to create an avatar without possessing a body, I would still be pretending. Right now you are being tricked into being me so much that I can feel what it's like to be you." She opened her mouth with a smile and closed her eyes. She was also drifting against the ceiling, bumping against your feet, your body was stuck at an angle.
Suddenly sheet metal tore from the walls in tiny diamond-shaped holes, leaving a lattice that rattled with each detaching wave. The diamonds hit your body on the ceiling, wrapping on to you and building up a dense abstract pattern of metal that somewhat resembled a crystal. There was not a single straight shot from the outside to the inside, but somehow there were many paths to allow for breath all over. It was genius. The structure shifted suddenly like it had no momentum to the tube and a rod burst from the floor, holding the structure in place.
The ground under you began to seethe with process, the ground erupting with millions of tiny parts coming together and pulling apart. Nuza roared like whale song mixed with a wolf's call and the room shook until everything stopped. All movement, even through the air, stopped. Vira was completely frozen in place and Nuza seemed to be frozen as well.
Nuza seemed to be trying to connect with you once again, but...from somewhere else....?

At the mention that I met the last test subject, my thoughts go to the psychic with his lower half replaced... and I grow ever more wary of her... she's probably planning something.
(The rest of the integration is unchanged...)
I am startled as parts seem to come from all around me (Assuming in the real world) to pin me in place to the ceiling of the laboratory... I prod at the crystal like structure for a moment with my incorporeal form, before trying to answer Nuza's call.
"Nuza? Don't tell me... something's gone horribly wrong"
Looking to the frozen form of Vira... then back to my own form encased in a crystalline metal shell, I sigh.
"You just had to go and try something, didn't you?"
Closing my own eyes, I think onto Nuza's words with me earlier... I had been given a choice, but it wasn't clear what the choice was at the time. Now, maybe it was a little more so. I look to Nuza's frozen form (Provided I am still a disembodied head) and sigh, and speak in a tone similar to that of speaking to a painting, or to a grave... I don't expect a response.
"If you were going to ask who I cared about... it's the one who hasn't lied to my face. The one who didn't take control of my body, to abuse your abilities. But now, I am trapped in this"
As I say this, I tap my knuckles on the crystal structure, feeling the cold metal underneath my knuckles, listening to the ring of the metal... it sounds hollow.
"With no chance of escape... ever. Regardless of who created it, I am little more than a prisoner now... and I don't even have my own body... This better not be that Vira has completely jacked my body, preventing me from existing outside of a computer... that would kind of suck, though would explain why time is seemingly frozen"
Looking up to Vira, as she seems to float on the ceiling still, her mannequin-like body strangely unsettling to me now, seemingly frozen in place. I simply glare at her, before looking back to where my real body is now encased.
"I am not sure what I am supposed to do... what I even can do here. I tried to be a mediator, simply wishing to know more about what information I did not know. But in truth, I would have rathered I never heard it, if it means this. Never mind about the imminent death my physical form faces"
My thoughts, as well as my gaze are now completely on Nuza.
"It's kind of funny, actually. I never had a girlfriend, never got married... but you've been the closest thing to that, that I have ever experienced. I thank you for that. I would not ask you to risk yourself to save me... except for the fact that you view the survival of your species, as yet I still don't think either myself or Vira were impregnated properly, as your first priority, and at the moment... it's up in the air who you wish to carry them. I still think that you are a decent being, regardless of what you choose to do next. Know that"
(I honestly cannot respond to all of that... and again, Nuza could interject at any point, or be blocked by the crystal like structure around my body, despite my efforts to direct my thoughts onto Nuza)

As you spoke, you heard your name spoken gently, "puck" and another vision opened beside the frozen one of Nuza. It was another Nuza, but much, much younger. She seemed to be in a different place, though where she was wasn't very clear. It seemed to pulse with sound that you couldn't hear. Like the random noise an unfocused TV screen. After a moment it became clear that this was psychic energy like you had never felt it before. This was Nuza before she had ever come to Charon II, She looked slightly more radiant and had a rich green sheen.
"Puck, you don't know me...or rather, I don't know you yet. But I have just had a vision from my future. My future death. I will do my best throughout my life to keep myself ready for what will happen. I knew in the vision that I was standing near someone very special to me at my death and that is you.
Puck...if this is confusing to you, please know that for beings like us, time is not like a river that flows in one direction forever. The future can change if we learn what will happen. Somehow the time stream is correcting itself...and we always float on top of it. Since you are going to be my special someone...I will tell you my name...welll, you probably already know my name...Nuza." When she said that, you could feel that she was in another universe altogether. It dawned on you suddenly. These were beings from another dimension. "I'm not sure why I am contacting you, but I felt that this vision should happen, and then it did. So you will benefit from the same blessing that my people benefit from. Puck. You are about to die. I can offer you a choice. When this vision closes I will send a vision to any moment of your life and do whatever it is that you want. I can warn you to never do what brought you where you are. I can make you my mate here and now, much earlier. I can scare you away to allow you to survive and instead choose another fate. You have been given a choice. I can alter your life stream however you want." You could feel her earnestness. You could feel that she was so full of potential. YOu remembered that psychic, how he didn't remember the previous vision at all after you altered things for him. Somehow the Anasazi could literally communicate across, and alter, time.

Looking to the younger Nuza... beginning to comprehend how powerful the Anasazi were... I am extremely confused for a moment, then speak my thoughts aloud.
"You are giving me a choice... but do you know the circumstances of which brought me here? Your species, slowly dying out, reaching out to anyone to mate with"
I say this, gesturing to the older Nuza.
"You can see many versions of the future... in which any number of small things could lead up to me not being here, to this situation never occurring. You have given me a choice... but instead, I ask only this. What do you want?"
I am clearly considering asking her to change everything, for me to never even get into this madness. I am considering asking for her to save my family, and thus likely prevent me from ever leaving Earth. I also consider asking her to change it simply, so that when I am asked if I want to volunteer for this experiment, I tell them to shove it up their asshole, their research is unethical and dangerous... but all of that pales in comparison. Any point in my life could be changed, and yet I ask Nuza what she wants... not for want of power. Not necessarily for even love... but for what could become.

"You want to know what I want?"
There was a moment when you could almost feel her world reach out to touch you. She moved more than the old Nuza, standing upright on her hind legs and stretching this way and that. She turned after a moment of thinking that felt like a soup of thought to you.
"You must understand that a moment before I sent this vision to you, I saw what you describe, and I learned that our exodus into the worlds that are so...dense and quiet --you live in a quiet realm, Puck-- that we shouldn't go to your realm, to your worlds. It will be a long time before you ever come, but we will try to make it work and eventually nearly die out...until this vision I just saw will happen...and I know that I cannot do this. However...since time adjusted like this, I am granted bits of how it could be that I can take with me. I wish to always remember you. What do I want? I want to stay here in my realm and try to convince my people to not make the leap to yours because it will be harmful to both. However, I know two things at this moment: One, I am intrigued by your body. By the body of your planet here, and the planet you come from. I desire to learn more about you and your world. And two, I can see that my people will still go to your realm. There is a strength that draws them through. Yes. I think it would be wiser for me to prepare the correct way than to try and stop them."
She stopped for a moment as if she was staring far off and you could see that she was seeing another vision right in the middle of this one. She stopped.
"You were transformed. But I see that it made you sick. I also see that this Vira is part of a potential...branch that could house our offspring."
She turned around and raised her tail up. You could see the segments underneath and how there was a youthful blackness that shined between segments. She slammed the ground with excitement. and turned around again, curling a little, and looked at you with half her eyes.
"You should go back to the safe times. But I will tell you ALL that has happened here, and give you the advantage that I have. I will visit you in vision and we can teach one another. I'll tell you the story of how you died someday, even." She uncurled and looked at you in a way that was thoughtful and distant. "I can even show you visions that you can feel, visions of being my mate, transformed. Someday maybe we can figure out how to save my species together. We will have enough time"
You felt suddenly a surge of security that even if you didn't have enough time to solve it, somehow a vision from one of these anasazi could alter the past, tweak things, until it was right. It didn't seem to make things perfect, but it made for survival at any cost. A peace suddenly permeated the scene.

My understanding of the Anasazi... and how powerful they were, is far more than I could have ever hoped for, and it is good. They were nearly godlike beings in their prime, as Nuza is demonstrating. I am merely one human, who has many different paths before me... and with that choice available, who was I to deny death itself? The choice was, then, when I would return to...
"You aren't the only one who wishes to learn about the other... though I imagine that it might be for different reasons than you have for me. I would ask what you mean by that I was sick, but I know enough that it would have probably killed me in the end... though I would like to know if it could be cured. You want me to return to the safe times? Before all of this happened to me... then let me return to just before I volunteer for the Charon expedition... I get the feeling I would get quite a kick from being able to expose this company in front of their faces, if I could go back and tell myself what was to come... only you will be doing that in my place"
I again look towards the frozen forms of Vira, old Nuza, and me... and sigh, turning back to the younger, far more energetic Nuza
"I don't want to forget any of what happened here, but I know I will, when time flows backwards. That's why you're here, to help past me remember... It's kind of funny, actually. Time traveling aliens... that can alter the past, if they don't like the present. But if I could pick only one thing to remember... it's you. You say we will have all the time we need... because this is an endless cycle. If you don't like how it goes, you just throw it out and start over. That is an impressive feat, in and of itself. I think... I think I am ready to go"
I approach Nuza, and hold out a hand, and think in my head how a handshake normally goes with another human, then think about how it would work with Nuza's many tendrils... If she grasps it with one of her tendrils, I shake it. If she doesn't after 10 seconds, I will lower it, and continue regardless
"One last thing. If past me asks something along the lines of, how do I know your telling the truth? Speak, in detail, of a certain event that occurred in my childhood... I think you know the one. He... I, may ask what the name of the ride was... the giant drop. Until we meet again"

She grasped your hand and you felt a surge deep inside you. Suddenly you could feel a memory in Nuza of dying alone, never having met her soul mate. You could feel it very distantly. That was something she had kept and told herself as time had been restarted until you had come along. She had died alongside you in combat, and it wasn't enough. Her species needed to survive. You and the a.i. were the key. You could feel her hope. Her tentacle grasped your hand tightly and you could feel her song like a deep ocean whale across the boundary that separates the universes, a big bang away.
Suddenly she was gone and there was a crunching sound outside. You could hear footsteps. The scientist who you had met right after coming out of VR ran in and looked around, completely stunned. He seemed to not be able to see you, half invisible, half floating, nor could he see Nuza. You could feel, however that in his eyes everything was wrong with two people frozen, one of them caked in geometric shapes, the lab ruined, and he began to speak. "I...hey! someone! C'mon. somebody!"
You could feel it tug at your center of gravity, at your belly, like a weight was tied there and suddenly everything went dark.
But you probably don't remember any of this do you? You will in a moment when I show you how it feels, how it felt. We can figure out how to solve the problem of the sickness together...or maybe we can use Virtual Intelligence to be the mothers of our children. Oh...I should show you what it feels like...what it felt like when you were a mother of my offspring in a vision I had the other day. Are you ready? The vision is bright...

(A suitable end, albeit a it felt a little railroaded... and the entire time, it was a story being told to past me? It makes sense, for an omnipotent, time warping alien. Out of the few RPs I have been involved in, this one is probably the one I have enjoyed the most, mainly because we both write in detail, whenever possible... You up for another?)

(Sorry about the rails. I honestly feel like that's a weakness of mine. However, I noticed early on that you were coming up with your own stuff quite a bit and it gave me the motivation to keep creating new stuff. I think part of the reason it became kind of boxed in was that I had control of all the characters except yours. I dunno, do you have any tips for getting out of that? That was probably my favorite RP that I've done with someone. I'd be down for another. Do you have something in mind? I also wouldn't mind taking a break for a bit.)

(To be honest, this was one of the first RPs I have ever done... and I enjoyed there being some structure to it. It only became obvious at the very end, when my options seemed more limited. So, perhaps giving players the illusion of choice could be useful. For now, there are a few other RPs I am doing, so if you wish to have a break, that's fine with me. I will comment on another of your RPs in a week or so, and we can go from there)

(Oh! If you feel like doing something fresh, let me know as well. I don't want to be stuck in the ones I've done in the past. But then again you are so much fun to RP with that it might just make any of them fine to do. If you think of any ideas let me know. P.S. You were awesome for having hardly done it. Are you a writer?)

(Been writing for a while before ever creating an account on deviantart, though I never considered myself that good... I think since about 4 years ago, when I wrote something and considered it done... though that first one was never posted, let alone a few others I have started since then)

(You could say that... if you're interested, it is available on deviantart on my profile. Never saw myself making money out of stories anyway, so made it freely accessible to anyone... all 16 parts of it. It had to be separated into that many thanks to deviantart's size restrictions, but eh, it'll do)

(Have you considered publishing on Wattpad? Some people who have a presence on there get noticed by publishers and picked up for paper publishing.)

(No, nor is it something I want to make money from... but something I might keep in mind for the future)
