Description
At first glance it looks like a Tyrannosaurus. Huge and bulky, with eagle-like eyes that can see prey from a mile away, and a nose more sensitive than a bloodhound. But the Apex is no dinosaur. With two incisors where teeth should have been and what looks like a pair of crab legs where arms would go, this is, without a doubt, a Ditentae from the planet Brough. He stares off into the distance, yet he sees no herbivores in sight. Just 10 million years ago, this exact spot was covered in patchy forest and thicket, a perfect habitat for a nearly 40-foot beast to ambush a herd nesting or feeding in the clearings. But geological changes are happening at an alarming rate across the world. The continent he hunts on, Yland, is being sandwiched between two continents at once, initiating the largest period of mountain building in the planet's history. With mountains beginning to rise on both sides of the landmass, moisture from the ocean struggles to penetrate into the middle. Dense forest and jungle occur only on the coasts in front of the mountains, as well as a small area in the middle of the continent. This place, however, experiences the most severe earthquakes on the planet, as Yland is being pushed north in the western hemisphere and south in the eastern one, creating a massive fault line down the middle. It is in this fault line area that he calls home. Boulders, sinkholes and irregularities in the landscape allow him to still use his species' ancient ways. Although he still struggles, supplementing his diet with carrion stolen from lighter, more effective and successful clades. His time will come soon, though, as large herbivores become rarer and rarer, and mates scarcer and scarcer. He isn't the very last, of course, but the sequence of events put into motion have already spelled out how his kind will die out. The rising waters of time have eroded away the mountain that his species stood on top off, until the Apex of the mountain became but a boulder in the grass.
