Description
A little bit of redemption and peace for our Opera Ghost. This image has been haunting me like the Opera Ghost himself haunted the Populaire for a while, so much that I eventually just HAD to draw it.
I'm very happy with how the fires turned out (which shouldn't be magically floating, but candles. Only I am too crappy and lazy to add the candlesticks :S)
But for the rest I'm not entirely content. Especially the lightning feels 'off' to me, and I have the feeling that his legs are too small in comparison to his torso, and his arms too long (I deliberately made those unhealthily thin btw. I mean... hello! It's Erik! AKA: Mr. Walking skeleton/living corpse Sorry Erik! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! AGH! OUCH! Don't hit me! I said I'm sorryyyy! Erik, forgive me, please forgive me!
Anyway, I'll probably redo this one when I feel like I can pull it off better. In my head it looks ten times better, I'm telling you!
But I still like the fires. And I think that it came out OK, given that it's the first time I made a PROPER attempt at good lightning (and failed. But one can only learn from making mistakes and correcting them!
I love faves, but I love it even more if you comment!
I know I've got a lot to improve on, but that's what I'm here for!

I love the quiet, creepy feel in this painting. It's very calming in a macabre way. Lovely work!

Thanks a lot for the comment!
And Leroux Erik is my fave too! Besides that he's also a lot of fun to draw!

You meant ever seen, I assume? As otherwise you WOULD have seen it *is nitpicking*
Anyway, thanks a lot for the comment. Somehow it just struck my mind, and I thought... well... why not grant Erik at least one small moment of peace.

I love the hollow belly, sharp cheek bones, and asymmetrical breastbone (or is it a scar?) So many artists are influenced by the 2004 movie - which I loved, and love the art as well - that it's refreshing to see an Erik who is truly scrawny and rather skeletal.
He needs some hair, though. Leroux wrote:
"All the hair he has is three or four long dark locks on his forehead and behind his ears."
I assume it's long because, well, you know balding men and their comb-overs.

Thanks!
I love the 2004 movie too (the musical is better though. Especially his deformity is a lot better in the stage version. The 2004 one was anticlimactic)
It's his breastbone, but maybe I could better have made it symmetrical and add some scars instead. I don't know...
You got a good point on the hair, yes! I always draw him with a few locks, but I always find it harder than a full head of hair or completely bald, and I wasn't sure what Leroux wrote anymore so I just went with bald XD I'll keep it in mind for the future!
XD still I cannot imagine Erik combing his hair over to cover his balding. He just puts on his wig.

Oh, poor Erik is so adorablely deformed. I think it looks really, really awesome! You're right abut his legs though. Just a bit too small proportionally. But it's still amazing!
I wish I could draw that well.

Haha, he won't like you saying that, probably, but I wholeheartedly have to agree! <3
It's also nice to look at his face when he's actually looking calm and smiling slightly, rather than being angry, sad, angsty or anything like that. Maybe I just deeply want Erik to be at peace like this...
And yeah, I still have to practice proportions/anatomy a lot. It's better than it used to be for sure, but there's a long road ahead of me, hehe.
Thanks, practice is the key, I tell you And being able to accept failure(s) is a good thing too. That nearly made me stop drawing a long time ago.

So am I.
I wouldn't know what to do without drawing! Or art and creativity in general. If I never had it I'd prolly be in a funny farm right now... or something unhappy like that (Or live under an Opera House and terrorize people? Maybe... XD)

Lol. Same here. Writing is my escape. And if that doesn't work there is always the friends I've met because I write who I can talk to. <3

He looks really awesome, and I love the flames. And his face is win. Horray for Leroux Erik! I wish I had more to say, so I shall return when I am intelligent with a better comment.

Don't worry, it's a great comment! Thanks for commenting, I love every single one, even when it's not a massive essay on what is good and what isn't
And Leroux Erik is simply massive WIN! I actually used a skull as a reference this time, to get it better than the previous time!

I like it. I think his hip-to-knee length should be longer, because otherwise it detracts from his gangliness, but yes, I like it, thinking he has at least one coping-mechanism that doesn't kill anyone

Yeah, I think you're right. I used a reference for the legs (the first time in my LIFE! O_O) but that was on a rather small woman, so I have been a little bit stupid not to 'upsize' the legs to Erik's big torso :S
I'll see if I can fix it without having to redo the entire section, otherwise I'll just leave it be and redo the entire thing a while later, when my skill has improved another notch.
So do I Somehow I really imagine Erik meditating or something, even though that just doesn't 'fit'. Maybe it's because I think he could have had great benefit from it. Inner peace, Erik, inner peace!
He has another non-lethal coping-mechanism though! Music!
Thanks for the comment!

Oh, true, MUSIC. D'uhhh, I think my brain's melted from editing all day.
"How would Christine react to Erik flinching like that, STILL" I mutter. Stuff like that. All. Day.

Haha, don't worry your brains will regrow within a good night's sleep
Writing is hard, I know, but it pays off in the end. Besides, I think you're pretty good as well I can write nicely on a technical level, but lack the skills to create a good story. I would need someone to brainstorm with to create a proper, interesting, non cliche, story
And I just don't have the patience to keep going either. Kudos to you for actually HAVING all those things!
