Why do I have so much random junk? LOL anyway, I thought I would just share some of the stuff lying around my computer.There were two comic ideas that I thought up, the first called "High Enough" where Hiccup wants to make Astrid a ring but doesn't know that the stars are too far away. The second is "Far Enough", which is the last strip, and Hiccup wants to travel to the edge of the world, but in the end he finds out that the world is round. Both I drew at the spur of the moment without much thought to paneling and composition (ugh, and the colors look like someone vomited on them), but I like the concept of having limited knowledge of science on Berk and how it would affect the dreams of someone like Hiccup. Who knows, I may think up more "enough" ideas and submit a proper deviation.
Haha, I wanted to do the "Old Spice" comic for over a month now, but oh well XP

A fantastic piece, plenty of content for everyone.
My favourites have got to be the two "comics", with "Far Enough" being my favourite of the both. The use of colour and scene are nicely rich and varied... it's probably quite challenging to try depict a global montage without any of the most recognisable global landmarks... although I've got an idea or two.
It's the depiction of a maturing Hiccup that makes it so endearing, it's not just his appearance that changes due to climate and the encounters he has. I quite like the mixed tribal motif of the final panel... is that back in Berk?
I was wondering... would you have any objection to me taking my own stab at it? Both the existing scenes, as well as a few of my own invention (the knight one was an idea I imagined, before seeing it posted in the feedback section... another is inspired by that comment about the Americas... and the third showing Hiccup and Toothless looking on at one of the landmarks of that time, the Great Wall).

Hmmm, I don't really know where Hiccup and Toothless are in the last panel. I think I originally intended for them to be in a bazaar, but it could easily back at Berk with all their souvenirs. It's totally up to you how to interpret it 
I would love to see your take on it! It would be so awesome to see the vision from a professional comic artist. *excited*

I love your ideas for Scientist!Hiccup, it seems like some of the basic facts we have today would throttle down so many parts of him, and grow rise to so many more. Positive character growth for everyone!! ://D

Yeah, it's interesting to think how characters would react if they knew what we take for granted--the world is round, stars are light years away, etc. But sometimes the journey is more important (and interesting) than the destination, you know?
I think Hiccup dumped into our modern-day world would be quite funny-- here we have a sarcastic, clumsy, modest but sometimes-attention-seeking nerd...and a TOTAL ADRENALINE JUNKIE. He'd ride roller coasters and say the thrill wasn't enough. He'd pilot jet planes but whine that he couldn't feel the wind in his face. He'd go sky-diving and complain that there was no grace or control. After being dissatisfied with our world he'd go back to Toothless and say that everything's perfect as it is.

://D Are you kidding me, that is EXACTLY how he'd react. He'd 'ooh' and 'ahh' at the technology for a bit, then grump and mutter about the VERY MINOR DOWNSIDES of it all, then run back to Toothless and grumble how we're doing stuff all crazy-like... as he takes what he saw to improve his own inventions. xD And yes, he's the best little adrenaline junkie the vikings ever saw (pfft, what does Snotlout know, he's such a weenie xDDD).

Easiest way is to make a color swatch (basically a crayon box) for your picture. You'll find that working with 16-24 colors unifies the piece more than trying to pick from 16 million colors. You can easily find color swatch tutorials on deviantart, and you can even make them from other images. If you need me to explain more about swatches I'll be glad too
I like to use the different brushes on Photoshop as well instead of the default, round ones. You'll find that it adds a lot of added texture and depth.
I'm actually working on a coloring tutorial, and I hope to finish it by the end of next week.
