I think many people idolize Che mainly because he was able to go up against something as large as governments and attempted to make a change,completely ignoring his questionable intentions.It don't matter if he fought for Communism(that shit is never going to work out seeing how messed up most nations are for practicing that kind of system) or burned books, or banned music or whatever. It's like making assumptions that Michael Jackson is a child molester.Doesn't change the fact that he is the "King of Pop" and entertained millions of people.Same thing applies to this(a dumbass comparison,but that's how I see it anyway). I don't even know whether those things he did was actually true, but it wouldn't matter to most(myself included) because he represented the axiom that people should take action when corruption occurs by actually doing it(despite having the wrong motives).People being offended for someone they probably never met in their lives and taking your post seriously is too damn funny. I think you bring up a good point. People are more in love with the legend and myth than the reality. If he inspires to do good, then I can't fault people too much. However, I think Che has become an icon to the American Left just because it's the cool thing to do. It's cool to paint pictures of him, it's cool to wear his shirts. More than anything, I think what gets under my skin the most is the fact that this is the way people choose their idols and ideology and this is a good example of how backwards our thinking is. We need to do a better job of thinking critically and choosing our heroes.
As far as not going to a bar with an entire wall painting of his face; just like people choose to stay away from Chick-fil-A or the bakery that refuses to sell gay marriage cakes because they don't agree with their politics, I too choose to vote with my dollar and support (or not) organizations and companies I agree with. That's the beauty of capitalism.
I just realized the irony in that bar, which probably makes obscene profits because of capitalism, displaying the face of one of the most anti-capitalist men out there as a tribute, not as satire.
