Description
BEFORE ACCUSING ME OF ANYTHING: READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION. Please? 'Kay? Thanks----------
I was encouraged to make this stamp by my friends and watchers after a situation I went through the other day. This is in no way meant to be butthurt of any kind, nor revenge on anyone. I also mean no offense to rule breakers or those who inform others about the rules.
-----------
Please note: I used the word ‘rule-keepers’ as is shown in consideration that I couldn’t find a specific term to describe those who catch others breaking the rules and confront them. I mean no offense whatsoever by the way it is presented in this stamp.
The heart, meanwhile, was meant to lighten the mood—not for sarcasm of any kind.
------------
Why is this titled the way it is?
Because, recently, I was snagged breaking the rules.
I was coloring manga pages without linearting them beforehand, etc, etc.
Now, before ya’ll start, yes, coloring manga pages without linearting them is considered against the rules. Just as you, I thought there were loopholes, and I was sorely mistaken.
However, me breaking the rules isn’t the point of this stamp.
The point is: not all rule breakers are out there trying to create havoc and make this site a hole.
I’m using my earlier situation to emphasize what I’m trying to get across.
As I said, I was breaking the rules. When I was confronted by someone about it, I naturally tried to find every loophole and excuse I had (in my defense: at that time, I didn’t see them as loopholes or excuses, but just how things were). And I was shot down pretty much every time.
However, the person confronting me about it was firm, but considerate. They did not bash me. They did not call me names. They were firm, but not inconsiderate. In fact, they even gave me suggestions on how I could continue coloring manga pages, just so long as I didn’t upload them here on dA.
That is called handling a situation correctly.
HOWEVER.
Just as the situation was getting settled… I was introduced to a not so considerate person.
“You’re dumb, for real. [link to rule]. Read it.”
Okay, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal. Maybe someone’s just very passionate about keeping the rules and is tired of having to deal with rule breakers? So naturally, I replied (and, yes, I was rather troubled and offended at the time):
“That was uncalled for. For real :/ I’ve already discussed about my manga pages with someone. I suggest looking at the original conversation before so blindly attacking me with such a brash comment. Thanks, Wolfy~”
And… this was the reply:
“I did really, now you’re blindly assuming!
What? Now at this point, my earlier assumption of ‘person aggravated with rule breakers’ went through the window. Who jibes at something so off topic? I’ll tell you, the rest of the conversation was pretty much just trying to rile me up. If you must see the rest, feel free to visit my journal, but I’d rather not put it here as I don’t see it necessary to emphasize my point anymore than this :/
What’s my point with this? To show my butthurt? To get revenge on this person?
No.
It is this:
If you’re going to inform someone that they are breaking the rules, please don’t do it in the way this person did. I say this as I was the one having to deal with it. Not all rule breakers are doing it on purpose or to make this site a hole. As it is, if this person had been the only one to talk to me about the manga colorations, I would not have stopped. I’ll admit that here and now. However, I had someone who came on and, while being firm, I had a civil conversation with them.
Who won me over to stop posting colored manga pages?
I’m not ridiculing those out there that are passionate about keeping this site as they dream of it to be. I’m merely pointing out that popping on and calling people dumb or being rude is NOT going to do anything but cause unnecessary fights. That day when I was accused could have turned out much more miserable if it hadn’t been for that considerate person who talked to me in a civil and patient manner.
So, if you’re out there and informing people in the more considerate way: thank you.
If you’re out there popping on as the above person did: I think you need to rethink how you’re “keeping this site clean”. Because bashing people is NOT keeping this site clean, it’s only causing fights.
Once again: not all rule breakers are trolls, trying to cause havoc, or intent on making this site a hole.
I wasn’t. And I’m sure there are others out there who weren’t either.
Before you comment, please remember that this stamp is in no way meant to offend those keeping the rules and informing others. I’m merely pointing out that not all rule breakers are evil or trolls, etc.
To be quite honest, I’m rather impressed with those out there trying to keep this site clean. It’s a big job, and I know it can be hard as I’ve met people who are doing such. I also know it can be stressful and irritating at times, but please do remember that those breaking the rules are people too.
Not asking for pity. Not asking you to be all pansy in getting people to understand the rules.
I’m merely asking for a little consideration.
Firmness is one thing. Bashing/being rude is a whole ‘nother.
“Do not bash me.
Inform me <3”
And before you get defensive: I know there are trolls out there. This is not referring towards troll breaking the rules on purpose, but those who never meant harm in what they were doing.
Also, please do not post usernames or names of people you are blaming for being obnoxious rule breakers or inconsiderate ‘rule keepers’. This stamp is not meant for people to bash others, and as it is, how can one comment on that when they don’t know the story from both sides? There’s always two sides to a story, so be considerate of those you’ve had a rough time with, whether you’re still angry at them or not.
Oh, and remember-- if you're going to comment: be mature about it ;3
Thanks for understanding~!
---------------------------------------------------
EDIT: To be frank, I'm tired of getting comments from people. Especially people who completely miss the point of the stamp, or find some way to twist my words to satisfy their need to be offended and chastise someone.
The stamps are old. I don't really make stamps anymore. I just keep my rants to myself now. Hell, some of my opinions have softened up too in regards to actually caring about those topics these days.
But yeah, comments are disabled now. Thanks to those who offered some interesting insight on any subjects on my stamps!

It's okay. I rarely get that kind of comment now, and when I do, I reverse it on them. I come up with something smart to say that they can't fight without looking like an idiot.

Then again....they never succeeded.....

One of my friends on DA had that happen to her, the person was so mean, that she quit this website. I agree, if people inform others of the rules kindly and civilly instead of just giving you links with a rude comment, I think the rule-keepers would be more accepted and there would be less fights.
Let's keep the peace people~

"Not all rule breakers are doing it on purpose or to make this site a hole."
-But they are doing it by not reading the rules they agreed when they joined.
"As it is, if this person had been the only one to talk to me about the manga colorations, I would not have stopped."
-
-Are you really saying that if someone is directly telling you that you're breaking a rule, you wouldn't listen because he was "rude"?

Way to take things out of context? I'm assuming you didn't follow my link?
1) "on purpose". They're not doing it on purpose (at least, not all of them). Everyone makes mistakes, and we try to learn from them. However, making a mistake does not justify a group of people spamming that person's profile with hatred and GTFO comments.
2) How about flaming you? Most people don't listen to those who are screaming hatred at them. Let alone take them seriously. I would of thought them a troll. If someone popped onto one of my deviations and was being an ass, I would've ignored them.

"1) "on purpose". They're not doing it on purpose (at least, not all of them)."
-The same way a retard in my city didn't "on purpose" run over two kids and their mother while drunk.
"Everyone makes mistakes, and we try to learn from them. However, making a mistake does not justify a group of people spamming that person's profile with hatred and GTFO comments."
-I'm pretty sure they didn't just comment on your profile "lol, i reported you!1", since it's against the rules. They did tell you that you were breaking a rule.
"Most people don't listen to those who are screaming hatred at them."
-Not our problem.
" I would of thought them a troll."
-...that links you to the FAQ?
"If someone popped onto one of my deviations and was being an ass, I would've ignored them."
-Telling you that you're breaking a rule?

ChikitaWolf In reply to Ntn2 [2011-12-04 02:58:15 +0000 UTC]
You're blowing this out of proportion.
This was before the new rule ^^ So yes, they were flaming me.
Not your problem? Then don't be surprised when they don't listen. Like I admitted I would not have.
Uh. Yeah. I was new to the site, and the FAQ they linked me to didn't clearly define that coloring manga wasn't against the rules. The considerate person who informed me about the rules (before the flamer) explained so I could understand, and linked me to the more appropriate FAQ that explained it better. So, yes, I thought them a troll.

"This was before the new rule ^^ So yes, they were flaming me. "
-So the message of this stamp is not valid anymore?
"Not your problem? Then don't be surprised when they don't listen. Like I admitted I would not have."
-So you would rather be breaking a rule than hearing someone "rude"?
"I was new to the site,"
-So, you didn't read the rules before joining.
"and the FAQ they linked me to didn't clearly define that coloring manga wasn't against the rules"
-Oh.
"The considerate person who informed me about the rules (before the flamer) explained so I could understand, and linked me to the more appropriate FAQ that explained it better. So, yes, I thought them a troll. "
-You really think a "troll" would link you to the rules of a site, even when "trolling" is itself against the rules in many, many sites? Wow.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ChikitaWolf In reply to Ntn2 [2011-12-04 03:09:06 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm~ No, it could still be valid considering there are still folks breaking that new rule.
LMAO, what does that have to do with what you quoted from my former comment? But to answer your new question, I wouldn't have known I was breaking a rule since I wouldn't have taken them seriously.
I do believe I already said that I had skimmed over them when I first joined? (though that's a different case since after the whole incident mentioned in this stamp).
Uh. Yeah again. Because I've seen trolls do that

"No, it could still be valid considering there are still folks breaking that new rule. "
-A "rule-keeper" breaking a rule they should be already familiar with? That's new.
"LMAO, what does that have to do with what you quoted from my former comment?"
-You said that you wouldn't listen to someone "rude", even if this person link you to the FAQ.
"I wouldn't have known I was breaking a rule since I wouldn't have taken them seriously."
-Again, so you wouldn't listen to a person that seems to be trolling, even when trolling is against the rules of the site?
"I do believe I already said that I had skimmed over them when I first joined?"
-And you expect people to be nice?
" Yeah again. Because I've seen trolls do that"
-Really? Link?
-You really, really think that a troll would link you to the FAQ and tell you that you're breaking a rule, even when trolling is itself against the rules?
-I blame the people that just throw the word "troll" around everywhere.

Not really. It's like a policeman breaking the law. They knew about the law. They probably went to some school classroom to teach kids not to break that law. But s/he still broke it anyway.
Must I continue to repeat myself? Because this is really starting to get old :/
I don't throw the word troll around. It's funny that you say that considering you didn't see the conversation that took place (I only pasted in the part that was "less" flamish), which clearly showed that the person flaming was a troll. In fact, they got banned later for it.
And I totally keep a huge amount of links on me about whenever I've been trolled
But anyway. This is completely going around in circles. You seem absolutely determined to make accusations and assumptions about me without even fully knowing what really happened. Obviously this conversation isn't going to get any better, so could we end it here? I'd rather not continue it at the rate things are going

"Not really. It's like a policeman breaking the law. They knew about the law. They probably went to some school classroom to teach kids not to break that law. But s/he still broke it anyway. "
-Again, a "rule-keeper" breaking a rule they should be already familiar with? That's new, since the same "rule-keepers" tell others that it's against the rules to tell someone you have reported them.
"Must I continue to repeat myself? Because this is really starting to get old :/ "
-Ok, don't say it again. I get it. You wouldn't listen to someone who tell you that you're breaking a rule because you would think that this person is trolling, even when they link you to the FAQ and trolling itself it's against the rules. That's something stupid to me.
"It's funny that you say that considering you didn't see the conversation that took place (I only pasted in the part that was "less" flamish), which clearly showed that the person flaming was a troll. In fact, they got banned later for it. "
-Again, the rules changed, so now the stamp is not valid?
-And do you remember who was?
"And I totally keep a huge amount of links on me about whenever I've been trolled"
-Don't say you have seen trolls do that without link, 'cuz I haven't.
"You seem absolutely determined to make accusations and assumptions about me without even fully knowing what really happened. "

quick random note, I don't understand some deviant's views of "you already need to know the views, educate yourself and just know it all before starting something." kind of ideology. It is common sense to know people learn different ways, some the first time reading, some after studying, and some after trial and error. Some understand words and phrases one way, while others understand and read the same word or phrase another way. Such as, if I said 'ocean' someone could probably imagine a vast expanse of water, smell some sand, or the ocean itself. Some may wonder what an "ocean" is, and some may feel fear from reading the word.
I'm glad your experience was a pleasant one. I know of too many instances where the deviant in question isn't treated with respect. While I understand, too, there are different ways to approach the same problem, I agree with you that not all people are intentionally breaking rules or intentionally trying to rouse people into anger.
tl;dr - I'm glad. I agree. I will use the stamp

Common sense on an art site, yes.
Then they need to ask for someone to explain and make sure they understand. It's your job to make sure you understand the rules you agreed to follow when you signed up, or find a way to educate yourself.

ChikitaWolf In reply to Morgue-Awall [2011-08-04 17:48:13 +0000 UTC]
Depends on your definition of common sense :/
Some people are too shy to explain . I read the rules, yes, but many others don't read them word-for-word.
I'm not saying you shouldn't read the rules or anything, I'm merely saying some people don't perceive them the same way others do.
