Description BEFORE ACCUSING ME OF ANYTHING: READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION. Please? 'Kay? Thanks

----------

I was encouraged to make this stamp by my friends and watchers after a situation I went through the other day. This is in no way meant to be butthurt of any kind, nor revenge on anyone. I also mean no offense to rule breakers or those who inform others about the rules.

-----------

Please note: I used the word ‘rule-keepers’ as is shown in consideration that I couldn’t find a specific term to describe those who catch others breaking the rules and confront them. I mean no offense whatsoever by the way it is presented in this stamp.

The heart, meanwhile, was meant to lighten the mood—not for sarcasm of any kind.

------------

Why is this titled the way it is?

Because, recently, I was snagged breaking the rules.

I was coloring manga pages without linearting them beforehand, etc, etc.

Now, before ya’ll start, yes, coloring manga pages without linearting them is considered against the rules. Just as you, I thought there were loopholes, and I was sorely mistaken.

However, me breaking the rules isn’t the point of this stamp.

The point is: not all rule breakers are out there trying to create havoc and make this site a hole.

I’m using my earlier situation to emphasize what I’m trying to get across.

As I said, I was breaking the rules. When I was confronted by someone about it, I naturally tried to find every loophole and excuse I had (in my defense: at that time, I didn’t see them as loopholes or excuses, but just how things were). And I was shot down pretty much every time.

However, the person confronting me about it was firm, but considerate. They did not bash me. They did not call me names. They were firm, but not inconsiderate. In fact, they even gave me suggestions on how I could continue coloring manga pages, just so long as I didn’t upload them here on dA.

That is called handling a situation correctly.

HOWEVER.

Just as the situation was getting settled… I was introduced to a not so considerate person.

“You’re dumb, for real. [link to rule]. Read it.”

Okay, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal. Maybe someone’s just very passionate about keeping the rules and is tired of having to deal with rule breakers? So naturally, I replied (and, yes, I was rather troubled and offended at the time):

“That was uncalled for. For real :/ I’ve already discussed about my manga pages with someone. I suggest looking at the original conversation before so blindly attacking me with such a brash comment. Thanks, Wolfy~”

And… this was the reply:

“I did really, now you’re blindly assuming! Using your name at the end of something is retarded, btw.”

What? Now at this point, my earlier assumption of ‘person aggravated with rule breakers’ went through the window. Who jibes at something so off topic? I’ll tell you, the rest of the conversation was pretty much just trying to rile me up. If you must see the rest, feel free to visit my journal, but I’d rather not put it here as I don’t see it necessary to emphasize my point anymore than this :/

What’s my point with this? To show my butthurt? To get revenge on this person?

No.

It is this:

If you’re going to inform someone that they are breaking the rules, please don’t do it in the way this person did. I say this as I was the one having to deal with it. Not all rule breakers are doing it on purpose or to make this site a hole. As it is, if this person had been the only one to talk to me about the manga colorations, I would not have stopped. I’ll admit that here and now. However, I had someone who came on and, while being firm, I had a civil conversation with them.

Who won me over to stop posting colored manga pages?

I’m not ridiculing those out there that are passionate about keeping this site as they dream of it to be. I’m merely pointing out that popping on and calling people dumb or being rude is NOT going to do anything but cause unnecessary fights. That day when I was accused could have turned out much more miserable if it hadn’t been for that considerate person who talked to me in a civil and patient manner.

So, if you’re out there and informing people in the more considerate way: thank you.

If you’re out there popping on as the above person did: I think you need to rethink how you’re “keeping this site clean”. Because bashing people is NOT keeping this site clean, it’s only causing fights.

Once again: not all rule breakers are trolls, trying to cause havoc, or intent on making this site a hole.

I wasn’t. And I’m sure there are others out there who weren’t either.

Before you comment, please remember that this stamp is in no way meant to offend those keeping the rules and informing others. I’m merely pointing out that not all rule breakers are evil or trolls, etc.

To be quite honest, I’m rather impressed with those out there trying to keep this site clean. It’s a big job, and I know it can be hard as I’ve met people who are doing such. I also know it can be stressful and irritating at times, but please do remember that those breaking the rules are people too.

Not asking for pity. Not asking you to be all pansy in getting people to understand the rules.

I’m merely asking for a little consideration.

Firmness is one thing. Bashing/being rude is a whole ‘nother.

“Do not bash me.
Inform me <3”

And before you get defensive: I know there are trolls out there. This is not referring towards troll breaking the rules on purpose, but those who never meant harm in what they were doing.

Also, please do not post usernames or names of people you are blaming for being obnoxious rule breakers or inconsiderate ‘rule keepers’. This stamp is not meant for people to bash others, and as it is, how can one comment on that when they don’t know the story from both sides? There’s always two sides to a story, so be considerate of those you’ve had a rough time with, whether you’re still angry at them or not.

Oh, and remember-- if you're going to comment: be mature about it ;3

Thanks for understanding~!

---------------------------------------------------

EDIT: To be frank, I'm tired of getting comments from people. Especially people who completely miss the point of the stamp, or find some way to twist my words to satisfy their need to be offended and chastise someone.
The stamps are old. I don't really make stamps anymore. I just keep my rants to myself now. Hell, some of my opinions have softened up too in regards to actually caring about those topics these days.
But yeah, comments are disabled now. Thanks to those who offered some interesting insight on any subjects on my stamps!

Totally right. But I still think the rules should explain things like this better. When I started here I barely understand half of what the rules said Being from a non-english speaking country makes it hard to understand site rules in english.

It'd be cool if they had a feature where you could choose to read the rules in other languages

Yeah, it is fairly aggrivating >3<

Yes, that would help.

It's specialy aggrivating when you barely manage you're login info without a parents help (this didn't happen on DA but on alot of other sites it was so damn annoying)

ChikitaWolf In reply to Lost-Tresure [2011-07-18 17:12:02 +0000 UTC]

Problem is, in America, the other major languages other than English that we have around here are Spanish. And French, though that has slowly given away over time.

So at most, American sites have English and Spanish translations. Not so much for Scandinavian countries >3<

Uh... this whole thing reminds me when I was in a deep depression and got bashed on a forum about watching anime on YouTube like it was a big crime... and I didn't even link stuff I just mentioned it... I wish people would safe their bashing energy to things that really deserve it.

I was supposed to submit something today but my headache is killing me. We'll see... -.-

I sooooo totally agree with this. There was one time I used what I thought was a stock piece and credited it. Turns out it was not free-use stock. A group leader confronted me, calling me an art thief. I tried to be nice about it and apologized. I explained I meant no harm and would remove it. Instead, she said, "you're still an art thief and we don't tolerate that in our group." It was so upsetting.

People make innocent mistakes. Sometimes they DO read the rules and perhaps don't understand them, particularly if there are language differences. Being rude is not the first course of action...it should be the last resort.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to Mirz123 [2011-07-18 15:48:15 +0000 UTC]

I've seen that happen :/ I think at some point those catching "art thieves" get tired of having to confront trollish ones, and because of this, view all "art thieves" negatively.

Indeed >3<

I haven't read the whole description, but concerning the part I did read: you shouldn't find loop holes around rules, because if you do, people will question admins about it, and they'll patch it up into the rules anyway.

I would also mention the definitions of bashing/trolling/informing, if I were you. People claim that people telling them the rules /politely/ is bashing or trolling. You probably want to point out the differences.

And, failure to comply first hand will make people get harsher. IE; Failure to heed warnings will get you in deep shit. If you want to complain about how the sites' rules aren't catering to what you do, then go to a different site what does or petition against it or take it up with the admins.

If you're not going to listen to people, they will get harsher. I experienced something today in one of the classes I was helping in like this, actually.

Tl;dr, don't find loopholes, add definitions for the words listed above, listen to people first time, complain if you don't like the rules. And all of that jazz.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to Ewissa [2011-07-18 15:33:49 +0000 UTC]

You'll need to read the whole description then, because you're missing many parts in which I wouldn't need to explain myself ^^"

As I said in the description: at the time, I did not see them as loopholes.

Yeah, I think you need to read my description ^^"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ewissa In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-18 15:36:52 +0000 UTC]

I know, I read down to where you said about loop holes. But what I'm saying is, from just reading that little bit, is that you still need to explain a lot of stuff. (I have skimmed, just so you know.)

And I should add that a lot of people start bashing the user they're informing, when the user bashes first. I'd add that in there, too. Because that happens almost all the time and is most of the time that is why the 'informer' starts bashing back.
