Words Below:

Virtual Worlds Unlimited had many problems with their optional hypnosis feature.  Even when no malice was intended, things sometimes still went wrong.  Morgan was a fantasy gamer.  He had been roleplaying with some of his friends in the area for quite some time.  They had been using the hypnosis feature and had not had any problems with it.

During the summer, the game master suggested they all go out to a large open space and play the game in a natural environment.  The weapons were not real and the safety features were activated so they would not do anything like run out into the street.  He did not think anything would go wrong.

The others agreed and set up a time and place for them to meet.  All of them were able to make it there at the designated time and place.  Everything was going smoothly.  They put on their virtual reality devices which enabled them to see the intended environment and activated the hypnosis feature.  The only one not hypnotized was the game master and even he was looking at the virtual world instead of the actual one.

Morgan had been using a female half-elf sorceress.  She did not have much defense but she was quite powerful.  The group quickly got into character, mainly due to the fact they had all been hypnotized, and explored the virtual forest which was actually wide open grassland.

The game master whispered for the AI to create a small party of weaker monsters.  The group spotted the monsters and proceeded to attack them.  It was a fairly easy battle, more of a warm up.  The group collected a small amount of gold and some food that was still edible and continued on their way.

The next battle needed to be more challenging.  Otherwise the group would get bored.  The game master told the AI to create two ogres who would follow them.  The rogue heard the ogres approaching and told the others to stop and listen.  When they did, they could hear it too.  They spread out and prepared to do battle.

Ogres were not too intelligent so when the group spread out they did not know who to follow.  They just randomly went after different people.  The group defeated the ogres but not without damage.  They needed to rest.

After their rest, the game master gave them clues about a castle further ahead.  They searched the area, gathered together as many clues as they could and attempted to solve the riddle.  This led them to a new path leading to the castle.

Before the AI could warn him, the game master jumped out directly behind Morgan and said, "I am an earth muncher."  Morgan screamed and ran off.  In the game, an earth muncher was a worm-like creature seven meters high and twenty meters long.  The party was not experienced enough to fight such a monster.  Running was the correct answer.

However no one was supposed to panic.  The game master removed the virtual reality device and looked around.  Morgan was nowhere to be seen.  He had managed to find a hiding spot in the grassland.  The game master gathered the group together and postponed the game until they could find Morgan.

Morgan was hypnotized and therefore completely in character when "she" faced the earth muncher.  Instinctively "she" screamed.  Fighting such a creature was useless.  The best answer was to run and hide.  Quickly "she" made her way through the trees and reached the edge of the forest.

There "she" found a wide grassland giving her plenty of room to move around.  Carefully scanning the area "she" found a small ditch where she could hide.  The earth muncher was searching for "her", but "she" felt she could avoid it.  All "she" had to do was keep quiet and remain in her hiding place.

About an hour later, the group without the game master around was finally about to find Morgan.  A few days after that, Virtual Worlds Unlimited gave them an undisclosed amount of money in exchange for them agreeing to keep quiet about the incident.  It was more hush money that would eventually come back to bite them.
