the episode isn't over yet, and already there is fanart on it. This fandom just broke every last speed record I think.

He Gir, You Obey.
If you're one of the few brave souls like me who STILL love Nickelodeon and it's new shows (as well as the old ones), copy and paste this into your sig!

So many shows were canceled, fight to get those you miss back.

I was wondering about that.

... Your math is actually correct. Surprising since I found no one else except myself who can do it correct. Congrats.

Pretty spiffy. I like science, but a lot of the hard data just blows right over my head. But this keeps things fairly simple and does a good job of explaining recessive genes for the layman.

O.o I think that the number talk about resesive genetics but in that case the doctor is more pony and less unicorn and pegassus, derpy is ok I think is more pegassus and pony that unicorn; maibe the 42% of unicorn comes by the fact that Doctor is a time lord.
AAAAAAA!!!!! my head!!!!! XD

i understand the numbers that make up the genetics in doctor wooves and derpy. but i cant understand how you've come to the conclusion of the 50% gentics of doctor wooves and derpy to add together to create dinky

Because of a very basic thing in genetics, you get half of your dna from your mother and half from your father.

oh i no that too, i ment that i get that each parent needs to become 50 to equal 100 in dinky.. but how have u havent halved them, why are the numbers different from the original, 100 equalling numbers if u havent halved it

You get half of your parents traits, you don't get exactly half of each trait.

The numbers are arbitrary and an example to show how the genes can be divided to provide dinky with the combination to be a unicorn from an earth pony and a pegasus.

The father's sperm makes up 50%
The mother's egg makes up the other 50%

Arbitrarily? Randomly? "In such a way to show just one possible set of numbers that would yeild result in unicorn offspring fom a pegasus and earth pony parent?" In a way that mimic real life [link]

I've been working on the Punnett Square on this with the number you gave out. My chart says Dinky would've been a Earth pony. However, I must ask, is it possible Dinky is a Unicorn by small chance?
I still don't know much on biology and genetics.

Redtriangle [2011-08-30 18:11:06 +0000 UTC]
I don't know... Though its possible that ponies of any kind mate with each other before but I doubt any living thing's small percentage in genetic can result in the offspring's physical characteristic.
Like can two brown-eyed parents give their child blue eyes?
Unless you're a biologist, if so, help me out here.
Personally, I see no resemblance to between Dinky and Whoof.

its because you dont get only dna from your parents but you got dnafrom your grandparents

Are you sure? Both biological parents?
Your parents may have some blue-green eye traits for brown-eye dominants but I still think it's improbable; it's by chance.
If so, then lucky for you!
I'm just more comfortable with biology than chemistry and physics.

well the reason is that my parents parents had colored eyes (one of em) so there traits were undominent in my parents genes so im guessing thats how me and my sis got colored eyes

Oh goody! I ask first to prevent prevent spoiler.
I still can't believe that a Unicorn and a Pegasus are children of two Earth ponies! I was shocked! I even guessed that the Cake Twins are adopted.
Now this mix-breed pony reproduction is canon, I'm guessing people will stop questioning about Dinky-Derpy (and Whooves) parent-child relationship.
