EDIT: 1) I am enabling comments because of such strong response to this journal. 2) This account has NOT been hacked, I own it--I have all the proper documentation that proves so. 3) We are not closing simply because of an error. That resignation just made me think that it was probably time to close. DLD has been a wonderful part of the lit community, but it has run it's course. This has been in my thoughts for some time and now just seems the time to bring it to an end. I apologize to all of you who are disappointed.

It has been 5 years since the birth of DailyLitDeviations and we recently published an article on the history of DLD that I had to take down. The article was unintentionally incorrect. It gave credit for co-founding to a deviant who was only an admin, who never had the account password, and who did not take part in the initial chatroom conversation that spawned DLD. That conversation occurred between Will VertigoArt and Brandon Eloquent-Weapon. They were the two creators of DLD. TheseKrimzonFlames came along after and was an excellent and dedicated to the cause admin, but not a co-founder.

As an unfortunate result of my taking the article down, a treasured and key staff member has decided to resign... therefore I am closing the group and will be shutting down this account. DLD has had its run, a very successful one and it has morphed from what it was at the original vision into a beautiful love story under the tutelage of so many dedicated, contributing staff members. I look forward to seeing where all of you will go and what you will do in and for the thriving lit community here at deviantART.

It's time for our end. Thank you so much to all the present and former staff members and to the supporting dA staff that have stuck with us despite our upstartedness. I regret that we should end so suddenly and without warning but good fortune to all of you... Namaste.

Always remembering the good times,

Lisa

Like many others before me, and surely many others after me, I'll simply suggest to just pass on the torch. Closing the group this suddenly is such a brutal end, and not fair for all the deviants who dedicated time to it. I won several DLDs and these are amongst the most beautiful moments of my life on dA, and on my path as a writer. I wish that many other deserving writers and artists can know this honor one day... for those people, you cannot simply shut down a group - still active and working well, BTW - just because you have the key to do so.

How about you ask if anyone else wants to take over running the group?
Would that be such a bad thing? So many people love this group, I for one,
nearly passed out from shock when I got a DLD, and I'll never forget.
I'd like someone else to have the chance to feel that way.
I wish you wouldn't take that away from everyone, and would consider
allowing someone else to take it over. Why don't you come to an agreement
with someone than change the account password, give it to them,
and tell them to change it. That might be the best course of action.

I do think the classy thing to do would be to turn the account over to people who wish to continue the group. There is zero shame in stepping down and passing the torch. DLD has done wonderful things for the Lit community. The real shame would be to just end it while there are people who wish to run it.

Sorry you've been getting so much hate recently for your decision, but I must say it was a bit rash. Just because someone leaves does not mean the group cannot carry on. After Steve Jobs died, Apple did not close. In a similar way, you must carry on with Daily Literature Deviations. Though you have lost cherished leaders/founders/etc., the group is huge. Your articles get over 200 views, and for an unnoticed member to recieve them, it's incredible. They go from being unnoticed and underappreciated to a reception of the appreciation they needed to begin with. And you can't just decide to remove this from the community because one person decided to move on. That's unfair to those who were featured such as myself who will lose the articles and kind reviews on their work, as well as the people who have yet to be featured. I've heard a new group would be taking its place, but you've seemed to disregard that your group already has hundreds upon thousands of members that see and read your articles every day. As Lady-Yume put it, "It's our meeting hub, the place were we find new talents and once in a while find our friends (or selves) rewarded by like-minded minds who have enjoyed what we've written. It's that reward that we all strive for and fills us with pride and the wish to become better and better." This is exactly what DLD has become on this website. If you so wish, pass this group on to someone else. I'm sure you will have a huge influx of volunteer willing to carry it on. Don't close it.

Love, I can't add any more to-the-point-words that alapip has already send into your direction, but only to amend to them.

I understand you've already pulled yourself out of this community you once started, but for you to let it die like this, would be such a great loss for all us writers on dA. It's our meeting hub, the place were we find new talents and once in a while find our friends (or selves) rewarded by like-minded minds who have enjoyed what we've written. It's that reward that we all strive for and fills us with pride and the wish to become better and better (:

Please, pass the group onto the ones who still want to lead it. You've already walked away - do it again and leave what you build as is: the home of lit here on dA.

Thank you

What you'd create by shutting DLD down wouldn't be disappointment, it'd be flat-out heartbreak. Do you not see the amazing positive impact it continues to have on the community?

DLD has helped me to gain a footing in the world of poetry, has introduced me to my current boyfriend of a year and a half, and has been helping the Literature community support its members. It is in NO WAY obsolete or "at the end of its run" given the benefits it provides to the writers it helps celebrate.

In such a vastly visual community, sometimes DLD feels like the only way the literary community can foster recognition amongst itself and let our brilliant writers understand that their art IS noticed! By shutting this page down, you would kill a community and all the hard work that was put in to help acknowledge work.

Shutting down this page without first trying other alternatives would be cruel and unfair to the Lit community. Your differing opinion doesn't justify the right to hold an entire community hostage.

This place means too much to people for you to just shut it down and leave them behind. You can pass it to someone else and let them continue the work and not crush what so many look up to and dream of having the honor of being featured. I may not be a member myself, but I am backing those who DLD means so much to. This is my two cents and I can't make you listen, however just shutting down a group entirely because you're done with it when it has such a major role in the literary community on DA is illogical.

Kersee,

if you want no more part of DLD that's fine.
allow Shane, or one of the others to
assign a new password unknown to you.
be generous.  simply give it away to the
active dA membership.  that you are no
longer active in DLD or even dA, and the
DLD account has been administered well
in your absence, means to me that you
relinquished ownership some time ago.
the torch was passed.  let that be it.

DLDs, as well as DDs, are something for
the general members to aspire to, that
i aspire to, and treasure as recognition
and validation which keeps me active
and contributory to dA.

you've already walked away.  let it go,
with pride in having been part of the
creation of a valuable part of dA.  DLD
already has proven its worth by going
on successfully without your continued
participation.  you did a good thing.  do
another, with generosity and grace.

thank you...

I really don't see the logic in this decision. I'm glad you amended this journal to point out that my decision to resign should have nothing whatsoever to do with your seemingly irrational decision to close down an institution because of an egoic and petty dispute over who had the most influence in creating DLD. The whole point of DLD was to emphasize literature and not the egos of the admins. This course of action is the antithesis of what the group stood for. Frankly, DLD is bigger than you or me or any one individual. It is not justifiable for you to decide the fate of an institution to satisfy an old grudge or because you think the group has strayed from some original doctrine. I humbly request that you reconsider your rash decision and give DLD back to the community where it belongs.

VertigoArt In reply to spoems [2014-04-13 20:22:02 +0000 UTC]

When I created DLD, I put everything into it. I nearly lost my wife and I did has a nervous break which put me in an institution for a while. I did not create DLD for recognition or popularity. I created it to further the Literature community as a whole and showcase work that was being missed. Many people used DLD as a stepping stone and I am glad that those of us, you included, that had our hand in the game were able to provide that. We will continue on, but I will not be the one running things. I will be there. And I will always be there. SilverInkblot will be taking the helm and running with it after the two of us get everything set up. I think both of us would love to see you come over and offer your services. You would be a huge asset. We all need to leave our personal dealings on this side of the screen and just get down to business.

Note me if you need anything or have any questions.

I am not comfortable with having her "come over," and it has nothing to do with "personal dealings." This shutdown was done without any input from the rest of the team; I don't want it happening again, and I already know she has the capacity to do so if she's on board with the new group.

the logical thing would be to pass on the torch and to step down - it is done every day in many groups; not to shut it down. shutting it down smells a bit of "i am taking my ball home", no?

with all do respect, it sounds like an ego drama turf war. this is quite silly and way more convoluted than it should be.

I think the response clearly shows that DLD hasn't "had its run."  No one's going anywhere right now.

Even if there's some sort of logical reason in closing; who are you and you alone to decide this? I'm having trouble understanding; if it's because of a mistake, journals can be edited. If it's because of someone resigning, people can be replaced. My point; this all could've been avoided with actually talking rather than just coming back after however long you've been gone and taking everything into your own hands like you own every last piece of it, it's all yours and you have control. It's a childish resolve and I'm sad to see it end in such haste and chaos.

SilverInkblot and thetaoofchaos have been co-founders of this site for quite some time now doing all the work it takes, but you decide it's your place to just cut them out and make these rash decisions on your own?

If DLD had to end, I think it could've been done on a much happier note rather than an outrage and hurting those who have dedicate themselves to it's existence in all levels. It's not about YOU it's about our community and what you've come back to claim selfishly in your mind.

And before you say "well I'm the founder!" if I read correctly at any point in the 5 years of existence, this was co-founded - the decision should not have been solely yours.

YOU are ONE person, what you have is an OPINION, ONE opinion. That opinion is obviously NOT shared, so, give DLD to one of us, since you have such a low OPINION of how things are. DLD matters to so many, and what you have done is just plain fucking WRONG.

YOU ARE NOT DLD, LISA. DLD IS NOT ONE PERSON. IT IS ALL OF US.
