Description
Truuue story.This is the thing which has consumed my life for the past 2 weeks. >_> I originally meant it to be one long strip, but then had to make it into pages for my class just to have a way to print it and present it, but I compiled it back into a long strip for here on teh web.
I am so sick of looking at this thing. So much stress over it and there are a lot of problems I last minute noticed and didn't have time to fix >_< Oh well.
Not really much else to say...
EDIT: Daily Deviation? Wooooah! Thanks guys!!
I'm swamped with things to respond to now, but here's some more overall thoughts on the topic that have been brought up in comments:
1 - ADD is more than just procrastination and not being able to focus. Everyone is "a little ADD", yes, but the problem is when its something you're having trouble everyday with most things versus just one thing you don't want to do. You have trouble getting even simple things done, can't follow directions, zone out in the middle of conversations, etc. For more info, I recommend this site: [link]
2 - I'm not necessarily advocating medicine or saying everyone should take them. It's up to the individual and what works for them. They're also not a "cure" - it just gives you more of the boost you need to do what you should. I saw a specialist before going on medication who taught me note-taking/studying methods and time management skills, but my meds help me to follow through with what I know I have to do more consistently.
Anyway, thanks again for the DD

I'm a neurologist, and also an ADD patient. It had been the absolute bane of my existence throughout my life, as someone who was raised to think she was intelligent and gifted, I was ill prepared to realize my limitations and my problems with attention hit me like a wall of bricks during my higher education. My struggle through medical school had been something akin to running a marathon with my feet in concrete blocks, even with meds, and coping with the fact that my inattention had me performing perpetually at about 60% of my potential had devastating ramifications for me. I'd been quite skeptical earlier in my life about meds actually working, mostly because I'd gone through many different drugs that made no discernible difference for me, until there finally came one that worked without a doubt. Life was still insufferably difficult but the meds made a very real difference for me. I hope you're able to succeed and do well in your individual journey.

Glad you found something that worked for you too! And that you're a neurologist is very cool! We didn't find out about my older sister and I having ADD until she went to college and started having problems (and since the two of us are really so very much alike and I already was having problems with school, my mom was like, "...we better get you tested too" haha). Our oldest sister who doesn't have ADD and who was always doing great in school just could never understand it (and still can't, unfortunately). Anyway, I wish you the best too!

I just had to say - I also have an older brother who never had any of my problems and was always so chill and laid back, getting excellent grades without working 1% as hard as I did. I read some studies recently that smoking during pregnancy may result in attention problems for the baby, but I don't know how much validity to place in them, maybe I just wanna blame my mom for all my agony.

Dunno, but my mom's not a smoker so I can't use that excuse haha XD Ah man it's frustrating when you have siblings who can ace school with seemingly no effort. Always made me feel ten times worse about my frustrations >_<;

I CAN RELATE TO THIS COMIC PERFECTLY. It really sucks to have ADD, I'll waste hours on drawing, playing games, or sometimes do absolutely nothing while I have a college paper due within the week... even though I try to stay focused, I just can't seem to help it ;_;

Thanks!
I'm on Strattera. I had tried Concerta first, but that had bad side effects for me. I haven't had any problems with Strattera now except that I get tired when I first start taking them. After a while though my body seems to adjust and then I'm fine. ^_^

You know what? Thank you for uploading this deviation. It motivated me to start searching for help finally, tomorrow I go to the psychiatrist to talk with him about my procrastination/lack of attention and motivation/mild depression problems and maybe to get some meds too.
Have a nice day and thank you again

hmm mind if I ask what side effects you had? I have been on Concerta for like 13 years now, and the only side effect I have noticed is it kills my appetite (...which to be honest is an awesome side effect in my case, lol)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DelusionInABox In reply to LilleahWest [2011-04-13 02:44:04 +0000 UTC]
It's been a number of years since I had tried it, but the main one I remember that put me off it was the uncontrollable shakiness. It wasn't constant, but when it would happen it was really distracting and I was like "wtf is wrong with me? o-o" Messed with my appetite too, but I really didn't like the tremor thing so I stopped taking it.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LilleahWest In reply to DelusionInABox [2011-04-13 03:56:44 +0000 UTC]
Yikes! I never got any shakiness o.O; that does sound like a side effect worth skipping that med!
*re-reads the above comment
hmmm wait...sometimes I think I get mildly shaky, like how one feels when super tired and your body is begging to sit/lay down...
So would it like happen at random and not every day? Because I feel this maybe once a week...it would be nice to know if its just my meds because these spells do seem out of place (ie I am not tired when they happen.)
PS highfive for being another artist with ADD
From what the specialist I saw told me lots of creative folks have ADD and it is suspected that they are creative because of how the brain is wired up...he said that ADD does not mean anything is broken but rather that things are set up differently, and he told me that "difference" likely plays a big part in my artistic talent...I used to think of ADD as a bad thing but now, thanks to him, I see it as an important part of who I am
Okay, enough of my rambling
*faves piece and runs away
lol X3

DelusionInABox In reply to LilleahWest [2011-04-13 04:16:07 +0000 UTC]
It was at random. I don't remember if it was every day, but it might have been almost every day because I know I didn't take them for long because it really kind of freaked me out. Could be that it effects you just not as much as it did me. Hmmm...
Yeah, a lot of people I know here at my school have ADD too XD It's probably because our mind can be random enough to make connections others wouldn't see that make us creative haha The specialist you saw sounds pretty cool!
Thanks for faving :3

The first one I tried had bad effects for me, and the one I'm on now tends to take me tired only when I first start taking them. After my body gets used it I'm okay. Medicine is a weird thing sometimes...

As someone who also takes medicine for ADD AND went to see his psychiatrist about it today, this just made my week. There's actually a few different medications. I had tried Concerta, but it didn't work for me. But now I'm on Strattera and I like it a lot better. There are others too but I'm not sure of the names off the top of my head other than Ritalin, but that's really more for those with ADHD I believe.
