Description Truuue story.

This is the thing which has consumed my life for the past 2 weeks. >_> I originally meant it to be one long strip, but then had to make it into pages for my class just to have a way to print it and present it, but I compiled it back into a long strip for here on teh web.

I am so sick of looking at this thing. So much stress over it and there are a lot of problems I last minute noticed and didn't have time to fix >_< Oh well.

Not really much else to say... Hope you guys are at least amused by it.

EDIT: Daily Deviation? Wooooah! Thanks guys!!

I'm swamped with things to respond to now, but here's some more overall thoughts on the topic that have been brought up in comments:

1 - ADD is more than just procrastination and not being able to focus. Everyone is "a little ADD", yes, but the problem is when its something you're having trouble everyday with most things versus just one thing you don't want to do. You have trouble getting even simple things done, can't follow directions, zone out in the middle of conversations, etc. For more info, I recommend this site: [link]

2 - I'm not necessarily advocating medicine or saying everyone should take them. It's up to the individual and what works for them. They're also not a "cure" - it just gives you more of the boost you need to do what you should. I saw a specialist before going on medication who taught me note-taking/studying methods and time management skills, but my meds help me to follow through with what I know I have to do more consistently.

Anyway, thanks again for the DD I'll try to get to everyone's comments eventually...but there sure are a lot. o-o

awesome comic, and I really relate to it even though I don't know if I have ADD or not ._.
isn't it just ironic that I wanted to read the things on that site, but I got distracted by a sound on the bottom floor and lost all concentration? xD

congrats on the DD

I like the comic ! that DD is deserved

Don't know if the info helps you, but ADHD and ADD seem to be partially a food allergy. There's research going on right now to see how much of the patients with ADHD and ADD can 'cure' from it while they are on a hypo allergen diet. It seems to be 80% which is a lot of people. But finding out what kind of food you might be allergic to can take up to 1 and a half year.
The pharmaceutical industries do not cooperate because no one would buy the medicine any more except for the 20% that doesn't get rid of its ADHD and ADD and the group that thinks it's to much trouble finding out what they might be allergic for.
kind regards, Yvonne

Thanks!

Not sure about the allergy thing yet. I've only recently heard of it and don't know much about it. I find it an interesting theory, though I'd like to see more research done. Not sure that it applies to me though as it seems to be very hereditary in our family (my cousin has ADHD too,and he eats a much healthier diet than I do)...Though I was allergic to my braces, so who knows. o_o Still, I wouldn't mind not needing my medication - they sure are expensive!

Thanks again.

Great comic. I don't know if I have ADD, since I sometimes get distracted easily, but I manage to keep my grades up and live life. I like how your comic realistically portray what many people must go through on a daily basis.

Thanks!

It's a bit weird that my sister was able to keep her grades up until college...as soon as she was on her own without structure was when things fell apart from her, and then that was when we found out she had ADD. Which then led to my parents getting me tested too since I had worse grades than her haha XD

Thanks again. ^_^

I just love how everyone thinks ADD is something you just WILLPOWER your way through. Or that it's caused by FOOD COLOURING/DYES, or BIG PHARMA wants to poison us all with stimulants.

It's always the people who don't have it/were prescribed add medication wrongfully/idiots who spout this crap eiugh. JUST LET ME TAKE MY MEDS.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DelusionInABox In reply to pseudoerotichandbag [2011-04-13 00:49:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeahhhh...I had a lot of depression when I was younger because of all the problems my ADD caused me. People would tell me that I wasn't getting things done or doing poorly in school because I wasn't trying or was really lazy. I believed them that this was the reason even though I WAS trying and couldn't understand either why I was just for some reason incapable of properly following directions. It was then another thing that made me reluctant to accept my diagnosis because I had been so conditioned to believe that it was all a failure of my character. D:

Buuut I'm much happier now with my meds. I get things done and no longer have to feel depressed! Yaaay! XD

I think that's the worst thing about adhd/add; People think it's just a willpower issue. That somehow, it's not that it's learning disabilities that have gone unchecked, or that we're not "trying enough"...it's just our brains aren't working so well. Hell, I used to part of a family where I did have an initial diagnoses when I was 7-8, but it's sort of this "Oh no, that's not a REAL disease."

Yeah, I think the best about the meds is feeling NORMAL like holy shit, you can do these things without much problems.

As someone else who has adult ADD, I feel your pain. I struggle with the pills, I struggle with the will power and I struggle to deal with it on a daily basis. Your comic fully grasps what I deal with all the time!

I don't take pills for it anymore, but that's because the side effects bother me more than the ADD itself. I've had to learn to turn my ADD into something productive. It's hard, but I'm getting better at it.

Thanks for showing people that ADD really is something we have to deal with. It's not just a joke. And congrats on the DD.

I commend you for being able to work hard without meds!

I've noticed lots of people tend to joke that they have ADD and/or don't really believe in its existence, and at times it makes me think that its something that is really been very misunderstood/poorly portrayed in public. There is much more to it than just a stereotypical short attention span, and the problems it can cause are much more hectic than I think some people realize.

Thanks again! Wish you the best.

And, I think I might have a minor case of ADD. Reading through that site, everything except the impulsivity applied to me D:
Oh well, if it's not effected me thus far, then I'm sure I'll be fine.
But I feel sorry for those with a strong case :c

Thanks!

It's interesting that even though my sister has it too, there are different parts of it we have and to different degrees. She's much more impulsive than I am, but I am reeeeally forgetful and much more terrible with directions/listening. It gets frustrating for both those with ADD and those who have to put up with us haha

Thanks again!

Welcome to my world. Keep your hands inside the car and don't feed the Kodiak Marmoset.

This is my daily life, and being unemployed has led me to budget my pills, which in turn makes me less focused, coupled with the fact that I'm no longer taking the dosages I'm used to. It's a horrible cycle.

I can COMPLETELY relate to this. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was really little. For a couple of years I took medication for it. But it didn't help AT ALL. It only made it WORSE. It got to put when my stress level was so HIGH, that I HAD A BIG LONG BALD SPOT GOING UP THE MIDDLE OF MY HEAD. It wasn't until the 4th Grade, when I got teachers that truely understood what I was going through. They told my parents to have me stop taking the meds. They IMMEDIATELY saw a BIG DIFFERENCE when I was off the meds. I could get things done much better. All I need was some special attention with some of my needs with things. Since the 5th Grade, I was BLESSED with the most CARING teachers. With their help I was able to Graduate from school in 2010.

DelusionInABox In reply to DraftHorseTrainer [2011-04-13 00:32:08 +0000 UTC]

That's great that you had such awesome teachers!!

I think it really is all about what works for the individual, and people shouldn't rely on anything to work as a "cure". I think age and the exact drug being taken also makes a huge difference. Some people just need to learn different behavioral skills and can then do fine, while others need that extra push in the right direction. I saw a behavioral specialist for a year before I was put on my meds and that was a big help, but my medicine helps me to follow through with the things I learned. Some people don't need medicine though and that's great!

I wish you the best!

DraftHorseTrainer In reply to DelusionInABox [2011-04-13 13:36:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, IT WAS AWESOME to have such great and wonderful teachers.

And I totally agree. Sometimes it takes many special things and teachers to help the individual to help get through their challenges. Every person is special and unique in their own way.

Naoru In reply to DelusionInABox [2011-04-13 19:50:56 +0000 UTC]

haha! Ahhh, people tend to forget the difference between being normal and having a health problem- diagnostic lists always have in there 'causes significant intrusion in life' that tends to be how I'd separate between defining a chemical problem and just a normal personality

lol It's funny sometimes how easy we can be distracted...

I also find it amusing that only others with ADD or ADHD can follow my train of thought sometimes - we'll completely change topics all of a sudden and keep talking like its all well and good, while everyone else is like, "How did we get talking about this? What are we talking about? What??" hahaha! XD
