Description
Part one of a series of tutorials about figure construction. Hopefully this will lead into the muscular anatomy tutorial that everyone has been drooling over. Patience, folks... I know this stuff may seem really boring right now, but I can't emphasize how important it really is when it comes to drawing the figure. There is still some debate about how many heads tall one should make the average adult figure. I've heard anywhere between seven and eight heads tall. Eight heads is what the ancient Greeks used for their statues, though, so those proportions are very much idealized.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I found this really useful. I'll most definitely keep your advice in mind the next time I'm sketching. Thank you for making it

It's one of the best tuto I've seen here.
First, you focus on the topic and not on
yourself and your daily problems.
Then, you don't repeat something that
we've already seen 10 000 times in more
or less different versions.
And finally, it's clear, easy to understand
and very helpful for people like me.
Thank you

heh "only humans right?"
Obviously, someone doesnt know what the word "sketching" is. That, or that he draws all of his chars from same angle
With me, and my way of doing anatomy, yea i know wheres the muscles and what length should limbs be etc. But ive been aiming more on if it looks cool, than if id aim for realism.
Now lessay one of my chars is doing a jump kick. If it looks cool, its no matter if the legs are too long, since viewers wont notice it. Bad anatomy can surely be noticed earlier on, so you cant really achieve coollookiness if the anatomy looks too bad

It's interesting that outlines for human figures differ a bit (I draw mine like 3D blocks), but the idea is the same.

Honestly never could figure out the "heads" height thing, but this does help.
Hey, any idea of where there might be such a tutorial for animals?

I think you have to find them through "browse". You can also try the Search feature.

wow...the proportions are very important in a piccie, I had seen pics that have good colors, good BG...but in the proportions was a mess.
That helps me to make little humans and furries*thinking*humm...what's happen if I make my fursona as a SaberThoothed dwarf...*smiles nicely*I'll try to make it

Yeah, my animation teacher's mom (she comes in for kicks even though she's retired) did a lecture on proportions and i thought eight heads was like way too tall @_@ I usually do seven/seven and a half. Good foundation you have here, although it looks like their arms are a bit too long, but then again you drew them with their legs apart so that might be why they look longer.
