Not sure if everyone already has this new submission page, but in case anyone gets confused by it, this is how adding installable journal skins works now.Hope it helps some of you.
If you have suggestions for tutorials or anything similar, leave your feedback at my forum (see my profile).
Basically the steps are:1. Create the code and images files.
2. Create the needed .txt file (see this is you need further help: fav.me/d6n2de9 )
3. Add the .txt file first and the previer afterwards.
4. Submit and add the single images. Done!

I have tried uploading my skin, but I cant make it installable!

You need to tell me more about the errors you might get or what else is wrong, otherwise i can't help you much.
Could be some issue with your .txt file. Maybe this fixes your problem

I try saving it as a .txt file and it works fine when it uploads (like it will work) but then when its up this happenedfc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/201β¦ " width="150">

That first part that shows up there isn't even journal CSS code. Can you send me your code via note? And also please tell me the steps you are doing. Somethings looks extremely wrong there

Actually somehow it fixed itself.. It was really weird, but it started working.

No it's not mp4. And you need special permissions to be able to upload videos.

I am a little confused, as i am not sure what you mean.
Do you mean the pop up that appears when you want to complete the submission? Where there is a bunch of text to read?

If you go through it, you just have to confirm that you have the right to publish the uploaded image files for that journal skin you have created.
But i have seen in your journal that you just want to use a journal, so this would be the wrong way. To use a skin you just have to install a free one.

I'm not sure whether or not it should be horizontal or vertical or if I need a blank template that I need to draw on or not, but I tried this once but it never worked no matter how many times I try.

Horizontal or vertical? To be honest, your reply confuses me. What are you trying to do? Do you have a coded journal skin that you want to upload? Or are you trying to do something different?
For journal skins you wouldn't really need a blank template to draw on.

You have to learn CSS and put together the elements you need to get the result you want.
Basically it is writing down the characteristics you want your journal to have, but following certain rules and a structure.
If you go to #eCSSited you can find plenty of tutorials, that will give you an idea of what is needed to get some code ready.

i'm also noticing that when i upload a txt file it only gives limited categories and none of them include "journal" ... only written suggestions. Β is there another way to submit a journal skin other then this? Β

The categories are only suggestions, you can still pick any other. Those categories will show up according to your content and the keywords you enter.
If you search manually for "dArelated -> deviantART Skins & Scripts -> Jounal& Gallery Skins -> Installable Skin" (start on the very left category tree), then it should work.

unfortunately it doesn't allow you ... Β i know i can still upload it and change the preview to an image but it doesn't give an install option for people to install it on their journal. oh well... i guess DA is taking that feature away in the upload / submit process. which i find weird ... because i know i'm not the only one with the same issue when uploading a txt file that it limits the category placement.Β

I just tried to upload something and the category shows up for me without any problems or errors.
On the page where you upload the .txt and the preview there is no option to choose for an installable skin, just the category.
All i can offer is, that you send me the file you try to add and i will check it (without uploading it of course). Other than that i can only suggest to contact the Help Desk.

Awesome, I appreciate your help in this. I contacted Help Desk but I know it may take a while for them to get back to me. Any tips or tricks to work this out would be gratefully appreciated. From what it looks like here, it seems to be something wrong with the submission. Your file is only identified as a literature deviation, which is why you only get a small amount of categories as suggestions.
I added your file at the submission page and got the same result, when i add my own files, it all works like it should.
That means, that your file is causing the error.Β It had not the right format. There is special extra code need to go before and after your actual code, to let dA parse it right.
When you have a journal edit page open, click "Edit skin". Above the three buttons at the bottom you have three text link. One of them is "Sharing". If you click that, you get your code with the right format. Save that and try the upload again.

Okay, so I made my css, clicked "share skin", copied the code, pasted it into Word, and saved it as a .txt file. But when I tried to upload it on dA, it showed me my file as a literature file, and I really don't know how to fix that

Try to save it with "Note Pad", "Editor" how however it might be called.
It could be that WORD adds some bits, that can't be parsed right. Especially with " , those can make trouble.

Na ja, also.. ich hab's hinbekommen, dass der Skin nicht als Literatur file angezeigt wird, bloΓ funktioniert's nach dem Hochladen nicht..
