Hi, this is the owner of Gunstockphoto81, an account Ive discontinued. I decided maintaining multiple accounts for different things was just too daunting. Ive reposted everything I took down on this old account, and have been slowly adding new gun pictures as well. heres the new link to the picture I think you used. [link]

I like this a lot - the figure and the background both look great. I would offer a small criticism though - the lighting on the figure doesn't really match the lightsources on the background, which makes it "pop out" too much...
Still like it enough to fave though

What a lovely artwork, she reminded me of Hollywood blockbusters straight away! And I'm talking about the old-school ones, when it was all about style and aesthetics
It's a great effect to blur out the "frame" of the picture, you can't help concentrating on the outstanding girl there And the gun looks so cool too!
All in all, wonderful work as usual

Thank you very much Sim.
And yes, the blur and the muted colour in the bg were meant to blend it in and not detract from the figure. It was going to be a texture at first, but I kept imagining she'd look great with a cityscape behind her.

Yeah, the bg is totally perfect
May I ask you, how do you manage such fine drawings? I figure you draw a pencil sketch, scan it and then add colours with a computer and a tablet, right?
Also, how have you studied anatomy? I can't seem to get over my comic style of art which I'm not overly happy with lately... sorry to bug you with all these questions, G, you really needn't reply if you don't have time

Thank you Sim.
Yes, I almost always start with a pencil drawing. I clean it up less or more depending on how I'm planing to shade it (I'm a messy drawer). If I want the lineart to be visible, I take more time refining my drawing before scanning. Sometimes I scan the sketch, clean it up, make it very light then print it and draw again over it. When I'm happy with the lineart, it is time to scan at high resolution (minimun 300 dpi) and colour inside the lines/or paint over it in photoshop with a tablet.
Yes, lately I got a few anatomy books (for artists) and I've been studying proportions and muscles. It has made a difference, I believe. The shading technique is the same (grayscale to start, details in a new layer).
I used to draw just looking at the silhouette of something, now, my eye is constantly measuring things. Looking at the head and counting how long an arm should be in relation, for example; how long a leg should be, etc.
A good thing that I did to break from my original style was trying different techniques with each drawing. Sometimes less successfully than others. But every time I learned something new that I could apply to the next piece. I'm not done at all. I have a lot to improve on.
Never be sorry to ask, dear Sim. I'll try to answer if I know.

Thank you so much for such an indepth and thorough response!!
Hmm, this is totally what I was thinking about doing. It's a relief to know I'm not going wrong way
Measuring is going to be a bit tough for me though, but you're completely right, it should be the base of a successful and beautiful picture.
Thank you so very much for your help, G. Hopefully I'll be able to put the words into reality

Nice Job! I'll have to make time to improve my own digital figure drawing skills sometime. This is exactly the reason for my gun reference photos! I'll try and get more up.
