Description
this image wenth through quite a metamorphosis.the 'underpainting' of reds and greens, was an illustration that i was having a hard time bringing in focus. So.. i decided to 'paint' over it with digital samplings of old papers. Turned out that's just what i needed to do.

this has such an odd balance that works really well. it's like second nature to you now. it's a hell of a beauty too! keep taking the risky route!

well.. im kind of oddly balanced as well... so i guess the art doesnt fall far from the tree. lol.
one of the reasons why i like working digitally is that i can play with layers and different components and keeping rearranging them til i find that right balance. (odd tho it may be )
someone once described my work as an organized chaos. i like that.

yeah that description fits nicely! i like that about working digitally too. i do so little of it though. working in tradiitonal mediums is fun for me because if you fuck up, you have to think of a way out of it. that's how my balance gets odd! well, that plus genetics, i think.

sometimes i miss working traditionally.. but since i've been working on refining my digital kung fu-- well things just seem to come more naturally this way.

i'm just stuck on trad. it's how i started too long ago not to be startled by it.

i used to be a traditional boy. but in the last 4 or 5 years ive latched onto this digital stuff.
i need to explore different ways to print now.. i found some online places that can produce glicee's at a decent price.

aha! trad boy at heart. what do you think of Da's prints? i've never seen one...

gregoriousone In reply to schlockhausen [2006-09-25 16:23:11 +0000 UTC]
yep i am a trad boy at heart-- thats why i make my digital work look more traditional. it's easier for me to create the things i see in my head. ( i guess that means im a bit lazy eh?)
I've gots me a prints account-- and everything that i've purchased i've been quite pleased with. they really are great quality and printed on good fujicolor film. And if you have a prints account and order your own prints you get them at cost-- which isnt too bad especially in the larger sizes.
im looking for other alternatives for something a bit more 'saleable' -- limited edition runs and so forth...

no it's not lazy! it's just the way you work!
that limited edition print idea is very good, your stuff lends itself to that. it'd look especially fine printed on linen!

it's also a hell of a lot cheaper. although i do miss the smell of linseed oil and turpentine sometimes.
ooohh.. linen. you know what one of my other favourite surfaces is? vellum.
i just love vellum.

yes yes yes.
when i was in school i did an illustration on vellum.
used it in a couple of my graphic design projects too.

egads!...
sometimes i'm not sure which i enjoy more:
personal statements such as "i am broken" or your pure abstraction...
either way, i love this - composition, color, juxtaposition of geometry versus non-linear...the list goes on...
nicely done, ol' chap, nicely done...

you can chalk up my love for abstract back to amandine. her and those damn abstract expressionists! LOL. composition and colour can only be credited to my biggest influence and mentor when i was in school-- flavia zortea.

it's there inside you.
you just need to learn how to access it again.
that comes with practise.
just create. get yourself in the habit of doing one or two personal creative things a week..
being personally productive does take a little bit of discipline.
forget about formal training or theory just go walk around with your camera and start shooting...

yeah, i know...
it's been so long and so difficult...
i promised myself i'd do at least one new piece a week...
now i'm 3 behind...
i have to learn how to focus not on what i have to do but what i've already gotten done...

it's a matter of discipline. I know your journey has been tough at times, and I don't really know your whole story- only what you have shared with me-- but I know you have it in you.
