Description & Present to you:

Unity for Rainmeter V3.0

Update 25-03-2011: Fixed HDD2 displaying HDD1 label, fixed a typo in the readme ([link] )

Whilst version 2.0 was a huge improvement above 1.0, people wanted more, they wanted widgets!
Well you asked for it and you got it!
I started making some widgets myself, when I came across the Faenza widgets of ~Col-Darby .
So I send him a PM and asked if he felt something for Collaborating for V3.0, and he told me that he started those widgets as a tribute to the Unity bar!
And so it happened, using dropbox to sync the code development started, and now it's done, we're proud to present you V3.0 of Unity for Rainmeter!
You thought we would stop there? You couldn't be further from right, we also included the beloved stacks, customizable backgrounds, text and a dropshadow!

IMPORTANT: If you are running version 2.0 already, it is possible to update it to 3.0 using the included instructions.
Updating from 1.0 to any version is not supported. (To much changes).
For those using V1.0 or those not using it at all, the .rmskin is included in the archive for easy installation.
Update 20-03-11 20:20 (GMT): If you are planning to update 2.0, download the archive again, due to a mistake you would still lose your settings, this is fixed now!

The second option is the case here, that's not a skin file. standalonestack.ini is the settings file for standalonestack2, which is used for the stacks. It unfortunately is a .ini file and as such Rainmeter recognises it as a skin file.

To add widgets you must right click on the bar, and press edit skin, than at the top you see a section with apps and widgets, remove the ; in front of the widget you want to activate, save the file trough File -> Save, and than right click the bar again and press refresh skin, you will now see the apps/widgets are added at the bottom of the bar.
In order to sort them to your liking, edit the file again, but this time move the lines in the order you want too, any order is possible, as long as App1 remains active.

In order to configure the apps (and some widgets) to your liking, go to the bottom right cornor of the bar, a gear icon will pop up, right click it for more information, left click it to open the config tool.
In order to configure a folder for stacks, simply rightclick the stack icon and the standalonestack2 config window will pop up.

It really isn't that hard, it just takes some time to get used to it. But please read the included instructions, they contain most of the information necesarry to use the skin. If you still have any questions left after that, feel free to ask

You mean the taskbar, yes, that's Adagio, altough the colors were finetuned in Photoshop to match in the preview.

That actually is pretty hard, but I'm planning on updating this anyway, adding Aeroblur too and expanding to 5 stacks, I don't know if you need even more, if so, please let me know how much.

first of all thanks for the attention. i donΒ΄t want to sound too demanding but actually i need 6 stacks, and as suggestion i would like to have some kind of marging hotspot or something that allows the use of the unity bar above all the open windows.

thanks, you did a spectacular job , iΒ΄ll desperate wait for the next release....

You mean an auto-hide function, hmm, I did some testing, and I got a functional beta, only it now still responds to the background of the bar, so in case you have the Large Media or Shutdown Widget and you want to press a button other than the one being on the bar it will hide again... Not sure if I can actually fix that...

Well, im back again. I am getting along with this quite well. I have a few questions now though

First of all can you resize the images and the spacing? I for instance would like to have a few large icons only on this side bar. I have figured out how to resize the width of the bar itself but i can't find the image resize. I tried putting in a larger image but that didn't work, it just resized it automatically to the same as the others.

hello-123456 In reply to chiefro [2011-05-04 08:43:34 +0000 UTC]

That's right, that's not supported by the skin.
However it is possible but it would require you to make quite a few changes to the code. Though I will explain the steps for you since you really like the skin.
Go to Unity\Apps folder, open all the .inc files (that are in use, but better to open all).
You will see the following parts:

[MeterIcon#]
Y=38r
H=48
W=48
[App#_Text]
Y=16r

All those values have to be changed for all the apps in order for the images to size up and the positions to be correct after that.
Each time the Icon is placed relative to the height of the previous icon Text.
So that would be:

App1Icon
Β Β Β |_App1_Text
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β |_App2Icon
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β |_App2_Text
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β |_App3Icon
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β |_App3_Text
And so on, when App2 for example is disabled App3 would move up.
Same story goes for the Widgets, they would require editing too, depending on the widget it can be a little bit harder or downright complicated.
Why it's this complicated you might wonder, well there was simply no other way to have icons to be easily disabled and them to move up by itself after that.

Maybe im just dumb or something is messed up but on the screen shots it doesn't show firefox as being first... however on mine i have no ability to move or disable firefox ... if i disable the first app they all disappear ... but to no avail i can't figure out the firefox. I don't really use firefox either so it isn't helpful to me. i like chrome better, sorry for those that might be offended by that last comment

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

hello-123456 In reply to chiefro [2011-05-04 08:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Also, you may NEVER disable the first application, it contains an X and Y value, and the rest of the icons is positioned relative to it, when you disable it it will remain relative positioning the other apps, but than they will be placed relative to the background, thus making them disappear behind your start button. In case you have a transparent taskbar you might just see it. So please leave it on and change the application instead using the config tool.
To launch the config tool go to the bottom right of the background and click the gear icon that comes up.

Then it occurred to me that i was using the update. :S FAIL ... I have it working now... So im going to have a look at what is happening

gcbancod [2011-05-03 02:37:09 +0000 UTC]

Is there a way to reduce the memory usage of rainmeter?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hello-123456 In reply to gcbancod [2011-05-03 07:48:14 +0000 UTC]

That depends, if you reload a skin or multiple skins it lets the original version in the memory and on top of that load the new one, so if you have refreshed allot of skins simply just close Rainmeter and start it again, it will than use less memory because it doesn't have the old versions in the memory anymore.

If you didn't refresh any skins, the only way is to reduce the amount of skins you use.

Either way the amount of memory that can be saved with it is next to nothing. But Rainmeter doesn't use that much at all, around 15 Mb, when I was running the Windows Sidebar it was taking up 40 Mb and I only had 2 simple gadgets loaded. Rainmeter is now giving me the same information and more and uses only a fraction of what Windows Sidebar needed for it.

Possible, but a little tough to do, since I'm planning on updating this to 3.1 (adding Aeroblur), I'll perhaps add some extra stacks too. Any idea on the amount you want, personally I thought 3 would be enough, but perhaps I should make like 5?
