A lot of people mentioned that it's hard for them to sketch cleanly, so the last tutorial didn't really apply. I have the same problem, and it takes a looooot of extra work on paper (erase, erase, draw, erase) to get pencil lines clean enough to start coloring off of. So.... that's why I often turn to Digital Inking!
Here are some of the ways that I do Digital Inking. I know the "trace directly over the original image" is probably the most common method, but it's hard to do without a tablet and also hard for people with unsteady hands, so that's why I talked a bit about other methods.

your are the first person to mention the pen tool that ive noticed (although i havent been looking very hard) and I never even knew about it. Man that could have come in handy. Thanks for the tutorial! IT WAS AWESOME!

I liked this tutorial very much! Finally someone makes it clear. Most of the tutorial are hard to read for me, because I'm almost blind, but this one was easy and the best^^

You are so very much my hero right now. I've been driving myself crazy in Photoshop for weeks trying to adjust some lines (my method of getting the dark lines in place, in general, is different, but the editing part isn't) and just having an overall bad time with it. This is going to save me mad amounts of time now!

ah nice tutorial but u can open the photoshop windows so that the backround is white and not clear just by checking the settings

lol~ thanks artemis-girl! hahaha, there are plenty of good "how-to" books out there already. I think most of us are just too lazy to read a book. Reading a short tutorial seems easier.

well done! I am so glad to finally see a tutorial that explain things in a clear manner x3 Even though I'm already familiar with all three of the inking technque's, it's great to see that this tutorial actually does explain it in context to tablet AND mouse. Thank you very much ^_^ With flash, it's great becasue no matter how much you zoom the lines will NEVER pixelate. hehe.

Wow, this is probably the best lineart tutorial I've found! I always wondered how people get their digital outline so smooth, and I've always done the lines freehand with the mouse.
