According to the following story ( news.deviantart.com/article/60… )that is how you get more popular. I am here to tell you all the evils of how to NOT have the pageviews or the allmighty popularity.

-ehem-

--Do Original Artwork--
Heaven forbid you make something that's not a fanart. Not drawing fanart will clearly result in millons of faves, and I mean... who would ever want such a thing? So... draw your own characters, create your own style, put time and effort into your work and you're golden! Such things will never result in any kind of attention, so you're good.

--Be Nice--
If you're nice to people, you'll get less attention. Since blocking and hiding any comments that offer advice on how to get better result in more love, you must always be nice and honest. Hiding comments and never asking for critiques makes you seem all mysterious and junk which is strangely attractive. Don't do it...

--Never Trace--
Thats the easiest way to get yourself up in the clouds of godly popular artists here on dA. Tracing Naruto screenshots will get you billions of faves in the first three seconds, so in that case stick to being original and creative even if you did draw fanart.

So what did we learn from all this?

To sum everything up, you have to be creative and original. Best thing you can do, is actually be a good artist and create wondeful pieces of art like nothing enyone ever seen before. With perfect anatomy, creative concepts and eyecatching colors. If you can do all that you will never EVER reach popularity... But I can tell you one thing... You will most definitely will be respected more. You'll actually get somewhere with your art.

I am very dissapointed with DeviantArt at the moment... I believe it should be changed to DeviantSpace... It's not about art anymore, it's about who gets more pageviews and who gets more faves on their traced 'artwork'.

Sure... if all you want is fake adoration, then go ahead and follow the simple rules listed in the link above. But if you are an artist and you take pride in your work... then keep doing what you are doing.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for understanding.

Agree. I've fortunate not to have seen a lot of those things.

I know...
I just realized, I have fanart... not little, but I did it in the way of someway having fun and tribute the stories, movies, historic characters and books I've loved from all my life...

And of course, I have my own works...

Art, I believe, has its very meaning contained in itself.
Art, to be valid, doesnΒ΄t necesarily need the approval of the masses. It has its valued imprinted on itself, on its very existance, stands up by itself, even if it is not recognized or understood: the breakthrough of a technique or mastery, the innovation in complexity on a topic, the narrative....

OMG! That other article is a shame! I'm really embarassed with something like that, it's like everything we do is to get popular? Wrong, if i do fanart it's because i like the serie or something like that, never to get more pageviews, it's just stupid. Saddly it's the true here in DA. If you do lot's of crappy Naruto stuff you'll be the man, even if you don't like naruto, it's rare when someone really apreciate your work.

This is absolutely true, but not only on this site. It's a problem of mass-media-involved taste and realy avantgardistic asshole, without respect for borders and conventions.

Look at art galleries, what a crap rich people bye and excuse my horrible english.

If you make art for yourself, to evolve and made your own path,
or swim in the same direction of the swarm, remains a classical problem of beeing a source or a fuckin' mindless consumer.
This i wrote in my german poetry.
Don't care what people say.
And time to always respond on every fav... it's impossible, if you wanna live your own life and find time enough for original ideas...

So in my opinion, dA is not better as any site oder place, becouse of the classic front...

I know I'm not very (at all) popular, but I do still take pride in that I can create my own unique art and that I have my own style. And by God, I'm going to keep on doing it!

i think fanart is good in moderation, but seeing an amazing original is always better, but to see badly traced anime vector from a some stupid idiot who's only a whore for attention get more views and praise, it's a total bitch slap in the face for the people who actually work hard. It truely makes me sick that da actually allows this shit, it's beyond disgusting.

I completely agree!! Γ¨_Γ©
I just can't belive it, I'm not talking about myself (I'm no good anyways, I know), but I saw some really wonderful artists that just because they were doing original stuff, they were completely ignored! >< I can't belive it, I mean, wtf!? Doing art means doing YOUR art! Ok, you can do some fanarts, why not? But, JUST fan arts?! WTF!? ><''

You forgot to mention the two things that piss me off the most: people who do a 8-second doodle in Paint, upload it into their main gallery and call it art, with their only excuse as "i was bored lol" when these pictures seemingly made out of boredom being most (if not all) of their gallery. I mean, I could understand if they scrapped it, but not only is it in their main gallery, but they have the gall to call it art. Pff. Must be modern or something.
The second thing would be all the camwhores. Yes. Camwhores on DeviantArt (or actually, anywhere for that matter). Taking Myspace pics of themselves from every angle both imaginable and otherwise and passing it off as art. That's the one that pisses me off the most.

Sorry to use your post to rant on, but I just had to get it off my chest. xD;

AMEN
I agree about the camwhore part. I also get irritated when people will post a picture just to put up a rant about something in the comment area, thats what a journal is for.

i'm sercretly hoping that my gallery isn't what you're talking about!! Haha! But sometimes boredom does bring out some interesting images..

Nah, you're okay
Just the ones that do five-second scribbles on Paint, upload it, and when you challenge its value as art, all they have to say is that they were bored. You wouldn't believe how much of that I see xD

ahahaha I needed this I so far have 0 fanart pics in my gallery, mainly because I get more out of drawing by creating my own concepts and original characters. So hence, I'm pretty unknown here. At least I can say that I'm not alone

It makes me kinda sad that people are unwilling to explore new concepts and ideas....other than all the possible pairings of Naruto characters >.>
I enjoyed that last bit of encouragement though at the end
Thanks for brightening my day!

Tenchi8 In reply to ??? [2008-12-17 03:29:10 +0000 UTC]

This is a very interesting post. I actually notice this lately. For awhile I thought I was the only person who takes time interpeting artist's art works. I was surprised at how often I've read "nice", "cute",
"awesomeness" and so forth. But almost no one really writes what is it that they like about it.

Me, I like to study pics wheather is detailed or scribbled together, and try to interpret what the artist is trying to communicate. Every art is a form of visual communication. And at times if an anatomy was to be drawn out of proportion, that could also mean something as far as the artist's current mood, or emotional state and so forth.

I almost gave up drawing altogether because it seemed like no matter my personal expression of my work, the trend of Naruto -popular art is all that matters to everyone. So I figured if this is the dominant stream, then my hope as an artist is pretty much screwed.

I drew several tinytoon pics with my own character in the mix. Originally,I wanted to make an animated movie of my life story.
I posted a profile of my original charcater. The story is interesting enough and well thought of, at least that's what I believe since I have been drawing this character since kindergarden. Yet, a well thought out story and background is not enough for most people. If it's not Naruto, then it's not worth their while. Eh, but now, I am getting back into the drawing business anyway. I came to the conclusion, that my persistance will get me somewhere. Even now, I am currently working on a fanfiction film, which I plan to post on you tube. You tube is another one. There are more views on random videos than there are on videos creatively done. It trips me out. What's next? A hand full of people stares at a beatiful planet of Jupitor clearly visible with it's rings in the sky, yet millions of people shrugs natural beauty away as their attention is drawn to a laptop with a traced out Naruto for a screen saver. I would'nt be surprised.

I thought I'm the problem and wondered, how come I can concur good with real people? Though I even did some fan art. But it was Lara Croft, she's not cool anymore... The situation get better when I upload/draw much but still, some Nurato fans are way overestimated.
You're right, this is not about Art anymore, but we WILL NOT SURRENDER!!

I create all my art from my imagination and I hand draw everything I do...I use nibs and India inks , brush, black texta's everything etc and I only use photoshop to colour my work so I can share it here and hopefully else where over the web... I am very pleased to have come to your art site and to hear something that I totally agree on....

I don't know about having original art to fanart. It seems to me that when someone has fanart in their gallery their pagviews triple. Then when they become popular then their followers start to look at their original art. I have seen this with a lot of people. On everything else I do agree.
