Description This is a variation to this photo: [link]

In this particular photo, I used the natural lighting instead of a fill flash and changed the white balance. This is a male box turtle, commonly found in Oklahoma, but usually overlooked.

So funny - he really looks like he is up for a race!!! Just stretching those legs and he will be off - if you blink he might be gone.... or NOT
Lovely pic

Looks like an Oklahoma Rain Turtle to me They are known to leave the low lands for higher ground before major storms or whenever my particular wheat harves crew would roll into town

At least that's the story I cooked up after seeing many of these crossing the road--probably coincidental but they were shckingly accurate at predicting frog chockers

Excellent capture--brings back some great memories of Kingfisher OK for me

Animals always seem to be in tune with things that are about to happen in nature...especially storms.

Good ol Kingfisher...it's been several months since I've been through there...

Fond memories and good times were had in Kingfisher for me Except when the underpass flooded after a thunderstorm

This natural shot is much better though the other shot has its advantages To sum it up: they're both very good, but this is the best ^^

How did you know, he's a male?
I have turtle for 19 years and i still don't know it's gender..

With this particular species, it has to do with their color markings. Males have orange/red while females have yellow markings. I don't know if it is the same with every species though...

I like this one's lighting more than the other one. Awesome shot. Did you move the turtle at all or did you leave it to it's business?

Hope it doesn't get run over.

Turtles ftw.

I actually moved it to safety afterwards, so that it would not get ran over.

I like him! You should name him Gregory. Even if you probably didn't keep him... (is the type of person to randomly name things to fill time)

Kate-Hedgehog In reply to kylewright [2009-04-08 18:05:30 +0000 UTC]

100% Random. He looks like a Gregory to me! If you got to know him he'd probably reveal that Gregory is the perfect match to his personality too.

hahaha-I'm somewhat partial to the ninja turtle names, since I grew up on them! But Gregory can absolutely work! Don't worry about being random-I can be ridiculously random at times...
