Description Ever since I saw Cheeko's Picture , which was influenced by Milo's Fanart for her , I've been wanting to do something in a layout like this. And since I was/am working on Chapter 2's script, I decided to make it chapter two specific for my story. I, uh, got too detail happy like usual.

I plan to colour this so a more in depth explanation will be forthcoming. I'll probably change the title slightly too, thanks to title limits. But this is full of symbolism for some mythology in the the story shared by a few characters. The "ink" is pencil, using Lora Innes' technique of dark pencil line work. I also upped the contrast to make the lines darker. I wish I had a gargantuan scanner instead of patchwork quilting this, though.

This is also a good time to say: kids, when you do background...always use a ruler. >_>

You shoooouuuuld! You know you want to.

I'm not pushing this like someone pushing drugs, nope. XD

I'm glad that you keep finding things in it. Now, to find some time to finish coloring it......

Wow, I'm in awe... This is so amazingly detailed and precise. It really seems like every piece has a reason for being there, and I feel as though I'm getting a glimpse of a much bigger story when I look at it.

Thanks! It was the intention of having a glimpse of everything that occurred in that chapter as it was at the time I drew it. It might all end up changing, but I'm glad that it showed through regardless.

Very good work! I love the details of... everything! From the patterns to the details of the clothes of everyone I also like a lot the disposing of every element in the pic.

Again, very good work overall

I don't know how I manage it, I believe it's due to my nature of being a masochist. Sometimes I wish I wouldn't put so much detail, but it's a compulsion I tell you!

I should give up... I should just pack my all my art junk and toss it in the trash and give up... but I think I'll do the harder thing and give it a try regardless of how useless my attempt will be in comparison to any of you crazily amazing people.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lennan In reply to Wazaga [2009-05-20 16:45:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you're going to try harder! You do good stuff and your ideas are always so original. I've found many of your drawings to be incredibly inspiring! And heck I need to try harder to get better myself. >_> It's frustrating and disheartening when you see all these people who are so much better and do work that you admire and all you can do is this (even now I'm still dissatisfied in many ways with this piece). You have no idea how many times I felt like that. D= That's probably why comparisons just don't work unless it fills a person with the burning desire to become better than their current self.

I think what helped in this piece, too, was that I did multiple thumbnails specifically of the whole piece and some parts (you should see them, they're quite the mess and some of them really don't work, maybe I'll scan them in and show the process so you can see the behind the scenes, er, trash that comes before the final). I never used to like to do thumbnails before, but it seems that I work better with them? Who knew.

And in any case, if you really decided to quit, I'd have to hunt you down and stand over you with a whip to force you to draw.

Wazaga In reply to lennan [2009-05-20 18:02:35 +0000 UTC]

really? I always thought my ideas were too simplified and somewhat childish.

true, so true. I'm thinking maybe I should try starting with thumbs also. I don't really care for them, and never actually did thumbs until recently for EH pages. but maybe messing around with small concepts before the final project might help. I would indeed like to see the process you went through for this piece. it might help me out.

hee hee, there's no true love like tough love I'd be happy to know you car4ed that much.

I'll be glad to show you. I'll scan them in tonight and then make them all tidy with descriptions so you can see the order in which I drew them. They are all pretty jumbled up on the actual paper.

Who's the sketchy guy in the moon? He's creeping me out. D:

The only way to make this more tense/dimorphic would be to add a horse and a griffon! You've got a lot of detail there, and a lot of symbolism to appreciate. The best thing is that it's a balanced image, not too busy. It draws the eye around so you can pick up on all the details without being overwhelmed by them. I think my favorite part is the world tree (at least, I think that's what it's supposed to be - no idea who any of these people are ).

I think this one works very well without color, although color would certainly help the lower scenes out a bit.

I'm still working on my one of these. I think you'll know just what I mean when I say I bit off a bit more than I can chew in going with an arabesque motif. >.>

lennan In reply to slyeagle [2009-05-27 22:48:36 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the slow response, but I was trying to get a drawing up that I could use as a link to differentiate between my characters, since I know that only I can tell the difference between them right now. >_> The sketchy guy is the guy in this meme: [link] Yeah, he's not a very nice person, he plays a relatively significant role, but he's not actually the antagonist of the story. Go figure. XD Do you mean the border part with the snake? Yeah, it's supposed to make up the world tree. As for the characters. That's always been frustrating for me, because I don't yet have something up in story form and so I'm spamming my gallery with characters that people don't know and consequently don't care about. I hope to have a short story up in comic form with these two characters (found here: [link] they're also in the picture as well and two of the main characters), which is just silly fluff. But still, at least it will have the characters there and sort of introduce them. But one day, hopefully sooner than later, I will have a draft satisfactory enough for me to being drawing out the story online. I hope it will be by next year, but I don't know, the storyline is telling me that after chapter two it wants to be mostly different from what I currently. >_> Which is good in many ways since I think it will become stronger this time around, but I'm a perfectionist.

I'm glad that it's not so busy that it's just distracting, though.

Oh man, arabesques, those things are hard. Especially the Islamic ones where the designs are so crazily complex that I just can't get my head around where they begin and end. Certain Renaissance ones are easier to see the patterns for, but trying to get the designing right is head ache inducing...but the result is fantastic. XD I can't wait to see yours, though.

Oh geez. You people make me want to gouge out my eyes with my own drawing pencil with your crazy amounts of talent. Ever since I saw Milo's, I've been meaning to do one of my own... and then the rest of you just keep setting that bar higher. I can't even see it without a telescope now, much less reach it.

Then again, I shouldn't be surprised-- since astounding detail really is your stompin' grounds. Nevertheless, I AM amazed.

You are amazing. I can't even begin to express how awesome this is. I love how the Celtic knot dragon in the middle carries through the design of the clothes. But my favourite part of the image is the character running along the wall in the bottom left. That image could stand alone, in my opinion.

I am filled with the urge to color this myself. In some ways it reminds me of the incredibly detailed coloring posters they used to sell in tubes. My mom used to color those when I was little.
