Hey everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday! Just before Christmas, I was commissioned to do a small sketch of my choice. Naturally, I decided to do something Vigilant Lioness related! I got a bit carried away and ended up doing a very small oil painting rather than a drawing. Whoops!Because this was a small commission, rather than hire a model and shoot reference, I went to Instagram and found a good photo of an athlete. In this case, a photo of Cristina Bayardelle. I figured I could figure out a simple hangar design as I painted, so I just jumped in!
I took lots of work in progress photos as I painted, and those are all available to see for free over on my Patreon page! I also recorded video of me painting the whole thing, and I'm currently editing the footage, so expect a new video soon. That part extending out to the Lioness seems awkward to go out into given that an erratic turn of the head could clip it off. The walkways all seem thin too, and without any support railings for the personnel to not fall. Perhaps each Bay has its own setup and number seven is the odd one out.
I wonder what they are telling her? She's taking it in stride it would seem. Unless that fist against the wall means she is tensing up.

Yeah, these women wield some immense power when full size. They have to be careful with every aspect of navigating the compound.
I'm thinking as each fighter settles into her bay, they personalize it a bit to suit their individual needs. Maybe this giant doesn't care for yellow so they painted the barriers to match the walls or something? Honestly, I wanted to add them in as well as render some more details, but because this piece was supposed to be a sketch commission, I chose to omit them for efficiency's sake!
