My community has an overpopulation of deer who cannot be hunted. This is leading to a lot of hardship in finding food during this winter in the 2+ foot deep snow in my woods. This is one of my regulars who, when the ground was not covered, would sleep behind my house.Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Wait...Why can't they be hunted?
Is it because of protest or something?
As someone from NY with a high overpopulation of deer [but people severely protesting the culling], I can imagine how bad it is for both people and the deer.

I live in a "gated" community (gated only at the roads) so there are too many houses for anyone to hunt in here. But, there are also a lot of woods, so it's a good habitat for the deer. It's illegal within the community boundaries only. Because of this, the woods by me lack underbrush and new growth. It's also very difficult to plant a garden. =\

It's actually a lot worse for them because the overpopulation is causing over grazing, which means they are HUNGRY in the winter and suffer because of it. There is currently no food for them.

...But we don't shoot people in India or Bangladesh for that...

We killed off all the wolves so in essence should be doing what can be done to feed them or cull them, when they over populate and are hungry diseases can take hold and wipe out almost all of them.
