Funny... 3 years ago when I bought my graphire, the Intuos was 800 euros not 300 dollars like you say here. Dayum...
Nice tut.

have u ever think about that mod Intuos and Bamboo (u missing this one) becomes like Cintiq...or go further.
This goes beyond just being a hobbyist. I mixed music with our mods, use fingers to touch, touch screen, wireless, mobile batteries, massive surface sensitivity n waterproof. Well of course all in one.

Intuos for Christmas = Best Christmas Ever. Though I wish I was good enough to do the lovely tablet justice...
This is a nice walkthrough! It definately helps narrow down the choices at Wacom.

What's usually the best size if you're just starting? (A6, A5, A4, etc. etc.)

Take a big piece of paper and sketch on it. Try to feel what's the best size to draw on. If you make small sketches, then a small tablet will work. If you really need to draw big, then take a bigger one

Aw.. I wish I had a Wacom Intuos, used them when I was an intern. I can't afford even a Graphire. My Genius Mousepen is really good, 1024 points of pressure and a 8x6'' area, but the pen is too bulky because of the battery and my can gets tired sometimes.

Very cool.. im thinking of getting a Graphire for my computer away from home, so I can work while away too.
I have the Cintiq 12WX as my main tablet right now, it is amazing. A good sixe, fits on my lap, and its the most affordable of the Cintiq series.. only $900 USD.

I believe Wacom has discontinued the Graphire series and replaced them with the Bamboo and Bamboo Fun tablets.
From what I've seen, they're better, and cheaper, than Graphire tablets, they have two extra hotkeys on them, a Touch-ring, and better resolution.

i really liked this tutorial, I was doing some research and I wasn't sure if I should buy the graphire wireless 6x8 or the Intuous 6x8.
I was looking for a tablet to do my hobby, although in a future it might be useful in my studies. I read in your tutorial the graphire is more for photo manipulation, although I would pretty much use it as to paint and use it in pixel art I wasn't really shure if you would recommend me the Intuos for that. I'm leaning towards the Graphire because of the wireless thing, but at the end i just want something that will last in time.
Could you help me decide? I'm very afraid to buy the wrong one.

If it helps, I'm using a Graphire, so you can paint with it. But the Intuos is made for painters

Very useful! Thanks so much for sharing!
What do you think about the smallest Wacom Cintiq, wich has 12 inches of active field? Is it enought?

Great to share this info
Although I did not knew very much about the different types at the time, Intuos 3 has never let me down (except for accidentally touching the touchstrips while drawing). Nevertheless I'm still lovin' it <3

Thanks, this is very helpful.
This will help making a decision.
At our country they sell the Cintiq for 1700 $
(hmmm...the temptation )

I have read a great review to Cintiq.
It says there are still some things to mention. For example it is very heavy, so you can't put it on your lap and simply paint (often done with former series tablets).
I own a Wacom Intuos3 A4, so I cannot tell you sth. about cintiq resulting from my own experience. In my mind, it's tomorrow's tablet.
I dunno why Intuos only got 7/10, you simply can't compare cintiq and intuos. As you said, it's the perfect buddy for d-painters.

You get to use all that stuff? You lucky dawg... I got a Intuos 3, but it was more like $500... and actually worth it. As for that Cintiq thing... come on, that's cheating!
I checked it out, but... was like overkill.
Good article.

I have an intuos 3 and it is glorious. I've had it for about a year and a half now, and I'm so glad I asked for it for christmas I did do a little research though, and if you look around online, you can find electronics stores that will sell them to you for a relatively good deal. I think mine ended up costing $30-$40 less than wacom's site advertised it.
That cintiq looks so pretty though...but i'm not up to the level where I would possibly need one.

there are some issues: slight delay in pen/cursor responce, and it gets quite warm as you use it. it';s much easier to draw on since you get lots of arm movement

I know, I've painted on the Cintiq a few times... I needed some time to get used to it... but that doesn't stop me from wanting one... It was just so much better to paint on.
