Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite are (C) Sega/Archie, Art is (C)*WingedHippocampus Off-site posting allowed with credit. Please do not trace, recolor, or make bases from this work.Personal redesigns of a couple of semi-obscure characters I happen to like. Made Bark more bear-like, but I don't think Bean's all that different. I decided Bark isn't wearing his gloves unless he's getting ready to punch someone, they're clipped at his side. =Nikki-Nicole-P plays him with paw pads, so I was sure to include them. She also suggested making him fatter next time, so will work on it. Might make a more classic Sonic style version of Bark later, we'll see.
I think Bean could probably fit his whole body into one of Bark's shoes.
Feel free to tear it apart, I'm trying to learn.
Last complaint worked on: Masculinization issues. Better? I hope so.

They're not excluded, just clipped onto his belt when not in use. I felt it was kind of silly for him to wear something that hampering unless he was actually using them. Can you imagine wearing thick, padded mitten-shaped gloves for everything? Eating, picking things up, dressing... nope. xD Besides. BEAR CLAWS, COME ON.

YES! Really like new designs of older characters. This modernizes them really awesomely and I adore the gritty feel. Bark is the hottest Polar Bear in the entire Arctic with this edition. Not gonna lie.

Gotta love those paws and Barks fur really shines. The texture and colors are great too. Bean . . . looks crazy, but I think that's a good thing. . .

I really like how you draw Bean. I've probably said that before but it's still true. That pose is also perfect for him!
The posing of Bark's claws is great. I don't remember enough of Bark's design to properly comment on your modifications but I do like this version of him.

Bark normally has the head of a hedgehog, which has always bothered me. I gave him an actual bear-head here. It's weird, he had a reasonable facial shape in his original debut game, but most recent publications show him with what's basically just Sonic's face with a slightly longer muzzle. No. |D But hey, that's what fanart is for, portraying the characters the way YOU want them to be.

Sorry I'm so late t'comment on this, but damn this is some good work. Β You do a really great job of taking both characters' existing designs and giving them an entirely new spin that feels fresh and new but still honors their original looks; I especially love the choice to expand Bean's red scarf into a full-on hoodie. Β And it's just swimming in great details, too; the gears on Bark's boots, the tassles on Bean's jacket, Bark's many beads...it's a real feast for the eyes, but you keep it nice and compact, so that it feels smooth and simple rather than over-complex, a real talent of yours I've noticed more and more over the years.
Most of all, though, I just love the character of the piece. Β The way the poses and expressions give us such an unmistakable sense of each character is really well done, and your clear sense of their overall personalities shines through quite powerfully in each design choice you've made (in particular the way Bark keeps his gloves at the ready rather than wear them all the time). Β That taut expression of Bark's, Bean's laid-back lean and matching smile, the clear tension in Bark's (wonderfully-rendered) claws...you can just tell so much about these guys through what you've done with the visuals, and I love it. ^w^

Neat looking. Bean has something of a crazed look going on as he does his little dance there. Honestly its the big feet that make Bark look skinny to me. But I think I would increase his torso dimensions rather than shrink the feet because they do work well for him.
Geez I hope these two survived Archie's reset. They were a lot of fun.

I heard about the reset but have yet to pick up a single issue. I've been wanting Archie to reset for years and they finally did and now I'm scared to see what they actually did. xD

I just realized I mispoke. Both Bean and Bark appeared with Amy and Cream when they returned to Knothole, so they are still in the comic.
So far the reset has been pretty good. Most objectionable thing I've seen them do is Rotor's redesign. Big chest and broad shoulders just don't say walrus to me. Antoine looks fantastic, as does Bunnie, and I'm quite glad they haven't backpedaled his personality. Course the biggest surprise is what happenednto Muttski.
