Description The social differences of Brazil being reflected and shown in a single photo.

This one illustrates a huge problem of my country: there are many slums in our cities, and they happen everywhere.

These unusual urban occupation of the urban space are often near the noble neighborhoods, and people are really poor. Here in Brazil we have to live with enormous economic differences between people almost always. There are people in the streets asking for money, lots of homeless people and criminality. It's interesting to think that the only difference between them is only the side they were born, although they have completely different lifes... Interesting thing to think about. We have to get used to have our cars "taken care" by people in streets (anywhere you park your car there is always a person asking for money to look at your car to see if someone would steal it, when it's more probable that the "street security guards" themselves do that), to see slums and people living with awful conditions, to see poorness every corner...

It's also interesting to see the picture in a different perspective. Try to hide with your hand one of the sides of the picture then the other, and see that there's almost two worlds colliding there, side by side, even the clouds are separated if you notice. I doubt that one could tell they are that close if they weren't at the same photo.

I present to you people, the third world.

this is a wonderful pic , and it definitely deserves more comments and views than it already has
in this photo , you have done something that i have never seen before - bringing two very conflicting sides right beside each other , and presenting the problem of poverty in a very unique way .
i mean , the photo is simple enough so that you can clearly see what the problem is , and yet it hits you straight in the heart .
well taken picture , i must say~
please keep up your wonderful work !

Thank you for the kind words! I agree with you that with this picture it is possible to see two different sides of society, I was surprised myself how well it came out! Thanks and sorry for the very late reply!

It is exactly like you said: putting a hand over each half, it doesn't look as if the two parts are the same city.

I really enjoy your photography because it isn't a mere reproduction of reality. It has a special feel to it that reflects on an aspect of emotions surrounding that reality.
I will definitely you.

The composition and lighting here achieve that feel; in particular how the warm colours of the slum contrast the cold tones of the tall buildings.

Thank you so much for all the compliments and comments on my photos. It really means something to me when ppl say that my photos have emotions cause this is difficult to archieve, specially for a beginner like me. Thanks so much for all your support.

I instantly thought of "The Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. It tells of London back in the darker ages of England. One part of the city is a financial paradise, though heavily corrupted. The other is poverty-stricken, that aspect only accentuated by how close it is to the richer area.

The poorer houses are beautiful in how colorful they are, though it's the same for the entire world- everything looks better from far away.

yes....it reminds me of what Eric Fromm said...the only way to undo the oppression and injustice of the last 60000yrs is to replace the present system of things with something fundamentally new...ironically the computer age has actually accelerated the process by means of which the gap between the have and have nots has widened on a global scale

You said something that I didn't think at all before. The computer age is just acting as an accelerator of the whole process, making the problem grow in unexpected ways... Sad.

it's a really amazing photo...it's a disturbing reality that we all live in, and sometimes most of the people don't care, because the authorities don't give a damn about it (we have the exact same situation in our country also ) and we don't have the power to change much....so, it made me thinking about how can we change this one...

Esta Γ© uma fotografia fenomenal. Γ‰ bela porque demonstra a realidade crua do teu paΓs.

Obrigada.
