Description *If you want to try this out, here is the lineart I used~ [link]

I've gotten requests to make a coloring tutorial, but never made one before. I decided to color a simple headshot as an example~

This is a PHOTOSHOP CS tutorial. I used CS3, but it should apply to previous versions of PS as well.

Let me know if you have any questions~ I hope this tutorial is clear, but I'm not sure it is. haha.

Question from ~fly-again "Do you have a special mode for your brush? Multiply, normal, low opacity and flow?"

I usually use the "Airbrush Hard Round" Brush (third brush type in the default brush list). XD At least that's what its called in Photoshop. Or, the "Hard Round Brush" (first brush in the default brush list.

Opacity is usually set somewhere between 80-100% unless I'm doing something that requires a lower opacity.

Flow is usually at 85%.

All brushes are used in normal mode.

The "Airbrush Hard Round" Brush is good for coloring and shading because it responds well to tablet pressure.

I use the "Hard Round Brush" to draw lineart and also to draw detailing, such as the strands of hair in the "hair overpaint" layer.

wow your really good, i have the wrong version of photoshop and its hard to work with but i have a couple questions:
When you painted the base for the skin on his face you went outside the lines and over the hair, how do you erase that so you can clean it up and color the hair?

Also, how long did coloring this take you?

thanks

ProdigyBombay In reply to SilenceInTheWind24 [2009-05-03 03:03:39 +0000 UTC]

I just took the eraser brush and erased the parts of the skin color that I went out of the face. Simple as that ^^.

I'm not sure how long it took me. I was taking screenshots + making the tutorial at the same time ^^

whats that long list of brush tools exactly?
they all just say "brush tool" so whats the difference?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ProdigyBombay In reply to itachiXOXOkisame [2009-05-03 03:04:43 +0000 UTC]

? A little confused by your question. Do you mean the names of the brush? If you hover your pointer in PS over the different brush types, they have different names, and they'll pop up if you hover your mouse over them.

You can go into layer > adjustments > black & white

It will let you change your lineart into black and white.

I have a question: Are U drawing full lineart on your computer or scan it from hand made picture and then using it as a underlay for the right lines?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ProdigyBombay In reply to Quiss [2009-05-02 21:20:42 +0000 UTC]

I do both. For this picture, the lineart was drawn directly onto the computer using my tablet.
