Damn that is some fantastic cosplay. Wish I could pull that off! I'd love to know how you made... well, everything. Or where you got the stuff from, I plan to go as a BLU pyro for the comic con coming up where I live.

This is spectacular! You look like you walked right out of the game. The best Pyro I've seen so far!
The shading/dirt and proportions are what makes it perfect for me.

just wondering where you got the vinyl and what kind of vinyl you used, thanks!

It's a furniture vinyl that I got from a Spotlight store. I have also seen it at a store that sells foam and rubber products (Clark Rubber).

Nice, real nice, kudos!

Though, personally, I'm more interested in the suit. I'd say boiler, or chemical suit, but it almost looks too rubber-like (and thick even), and I see no zipper or buttoning in the front. (Though I THINK I can make out a zipper at the neckline.....Maybe....Probably just me seeing what I want to see.) But thus, my brain goes, 'What is it? O_0' - I ponder in mystified awe.

Still, immense job, great work, ten stars, already faved!

Toodles!

It was made out of furniture vinyl, and the zip is at the back.

What did you make the gas nozzle out of? Is it real?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

protowilson In reply to ElectricBlue42 [2012-08-08 11:45:13 +0000 UTC]

Everything was built new, either out of PVC pipe, acrylic sheet or MDF. The igniter tube is copper, though.

how big is that propane tank?
is it empty?
did you buy those gloves with those colors and if so, where?

I love this, I'm going to do my best to recreate this some day, but with "the last breath" and maybe one of my fedoras.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

protowilson In reply to EricAFI [2012-07-05 00:22:05 +0000 UTC]

The propane tank isn't a real tank. It's made of architectural foam, car body filler and then spray-painted so it's not very heavy. The size of it.... erm, I'm not sure. The flamethrower's at home and I'm at work now, but all the props were scaled to my height so that proportionally they're the same as the in-game model relative to Pyro.
The gloves didn't have the yellow on them when I bought them. They're basically these: [link]

Saelan-K [2012-06-28 17:12:59 +0000 UTC]

This is honestly one of the best Pyro cosplays I've ever seen. Really nice work!
If you don't mind me asking, was the vinyl suit relatively comfortable to walk and move around in?
And for the blackened parts of the suit, did you use regular black spray paint?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

protowilson In reply to Saelan-K [2012-06-28 21:27:59 +0000 UTC]

The vinyl suit was hot when the outside temperature was high and cold when the weather was chilly, so I guess that means it's a terrible insulator! There's no real problem moving about in it... that's really down to the shape of it. The real trouble comes from the weight of the back pack pulling to front of the suit up and back, but you need to make the lower part of the suit fairly baggy. I have to make sure that I reposition the belt periodically otherwise it sits up too high. The belt's also bolted to the suit to try and stop it from sliding up too much.
The blackened parts are done with Tamiya black spray paint, which remains a little tacky/sticky after it's dried, and charcoal dust is rubbed into those areas which takes away the tackiness and the shininess.
