i like the spicy razzle dazle on 4.
i dont think all links deserve such size but i'd hilight the important links that big. keep the "contact" and "about" smaller...at which point you'd have to pick a small set of links to go with the large.
none of the small links are an exact match to the 4 large style links. 5 might be the match but it might need slightly more to tie it in. maybe sparkle?

Thanks, the diamond effect is my personal fav also. For emphasis on that one making them all slightly smaller and increasing them during rollover would probably be pretty cool. The buttons can easily be resized larger or smaller as needed using the Free Transform Tool.

I have a few but not really a fan of sound effects or background noise. Finding royalty free clips is easy though.
FlashKit.com
stonewashed.net
There are tons more of course but those two resources alone are plenty.

Thanks, it's nothing too fancy but basic buttons are always handy. I need to make some more

if you apply some more easing to the buttons, they would look better.

I agree I was in a hurry to knock them out and easing would look better
At least that's easy enough to adjust in the property inspector. Thanks for the comment

these are so cool! I love what you did with group 2 and group 4, especially.
(what font did you use for group 4? )

Thanks The font for group 4 is called HIGH SPEED (BOLD is a link) which I got from dafont.com which is one of the best free font places
It's also included in the download

Hmm . . . Some of the flash buttons that you created are very well done--I like the gray ones with the fold-out white the best, and the ones across the picture of the car are fascinating. For the most part, though, the effects are a little overboard--remember that for the most part, the function of flash on buttons is not to show off what you can do in flash, but rather to simply show the user that they have their cursor over the button that they want to use. Some of the flashier ones may find homes on personal websites, but professionals will want the flash functions on their buttons to be as subtle as possible, so that they don't distract from the main content of the page.
But you've got some good things going on here, and I like the function that turns the background different colors with you push those buttons. Do you think that might be something that could be coded into a flash webpage?

I agree the buttons are a little "flashy" but that was kind of the point for this group which was mostly to be used for personal or portfolio type sites with a little razzal dazzal I did include a couple of more "corporate" style buttons as well and my next set will be a good mix of them as well.
As far as the color changing background it's very basic to code on the timeline, you just have the different colors for each key frame and a stop action. The have the button go to that key frame on the time and stop.
My Runway site uses action script to change color backgrounds as well but it's much smoother.

Forgot to mention, did you happen to right click and zoom in on group 5? Nobody has bothered to read the small text yet (hint, hint)

Figures you would like the "corporate" look More will be coming soon (both fun and corporate)
Do you use Flash?

Why of course ... Just the type to put a buck or two in the bank.
Sometimes I use Flash ... Use to do web pages, then just ads, then video and portfolio stuff for models.
Nowadays just some frame by frame animation and a few ads now and then. Well a few videos also.
Doesn't look like I'll be updating my Flash 8 anytime soon. Though Adobe has invited me twice to do beta work on the next version of Director.

I'm quite happy with Flash 8 myself, hell not much I can do with 8 that I couldn't do with 4 so unless I become the code guru I can't see upgrading anytime either

Yes a great program Flash 8 is ... I use to wake up resiting actionscript ... Now no more code nightmares.
Use just what I need now and usually have to look it up or use from old notes. Can't under rate cut and past.
Oh and still have my copy of Flash 4 too. Some of my most fun animation were done with it.

That's very impressive
Was the coding for this simple like:
if collision_point(mouse_x,mouse_y)
than
img_index = -2
Well, that's Gml, but I heard it's ALMOST close to other programmimg languages.
Do you know any C++?

tecwzrd In reply to sudofed [2007-07-19 21:06:48 +0000 UTC]
Thanks tons The action script is basic but you can add a lot more if you like
Just the following coding was used:
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}
on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
gotoAndPlay(11);
}
The actual buttons are all movie clips with a hit button above it with the above code on the hit button.
Just add additional on (press, release, ect..) code to use the buttons in your own project. You can download the fla file if you want to play with them or use them.

Haha thank you.
By the way, the mouse x mouse y is gml's way of making a mouse over button. In your case, that would be the (rollOver)
Of course, fallowed by the fram of animation you want to play next. I see it uses the { symbol as well

Thanks, my favorite is group 4 personally but they all took about the same amount of time to do (about 10-15 minutes)
Just realized I forgot to add (Group 6) to the last one I'm sure people can figure it out though

You're welcome! I think the first one in group 4 looks best because I like how the white sparkles look on the white text.
Were these hard to do?
I didn't even notice (group 6) wasn't there. So I don't think anyone is going to have any problems. XD

I've been using flash for 9 years now (since Flash 3) and with Flash 8 it takes no time at all to create the buttons. Group 4 is all the same button with only the text properties changed (text is a movie clip, tint was used to change the colors)

Wow, 9 years! That's a long time. I checked out some of your other stuff; amazing work!!
I have Flash 8, but I have no idea how to use it, yet, lol. XD I'm trying to learn though. My boss expects me to know it well within one month. Is that even possible? o_O
Thanks for the info.
