The "church" was founded in the 31st century to preserve knowledge of radioactivity in case of a technological dark age. Ironically they ended up forgetting what nuclear power was and began worshiping it as some kind of supernatural force. They belive radiation hurts you because you are sinful must cover yourself in a hazmat suit to be modest. Their space ships and technology are repaired by poorly understood maintainace rituals.
