Was it a pair or the females watching - they do watch, so do the geese females.
Do you have any goose fight shots? - pretty cool too how they wrap their necks.
yes it is all about nesting and having enough food for the young.

Heh I noticed it yesterday - the ducks are all separated out in pairs, on the back pond, not in the huge groups of the Winter. The swans seems to be working on nests. Today it is raining and washing away the snow.

Monday, when it snowed, I put out extra seed in my yard and had a yard full of grackles, they must have just returned because I had not seen any so far. Every once in a while one would puff up all of it's feathers, look up at the snow coming down, and scream at it. The cats were thrilled. LOL I couldn't get a shot because as soon as they heard a sound they flew - several times. I shot through the window but they did not come out well.

It sounds like your not far behind us really, they are all the signs im seeing. one thing im waiting for now is to find Duck eggs
layed anywhere, every year i allways find some. they must just drop the odd ones before the main clutches.
Its a shame you didn't get a shot of the grackles, its the first i've ever heard of them and just looked them up, beautiful birds
especially the iridescent black, or purple on the head, and those bright eye's. fingers crossed you get a shot of one of those.

They are gorgeous - I will try, pretty soon they will be around the pond pulling up dead leaves tossing them in the air to find bugs. It is very amusing.

i can imagine them foraging in the leaves, they look a lot like our blackbirds and thats there main trick
looking for insects and worms.

I run into that a lot many birds are obscured by the vegetation here - worse as the season progresses.
I will wish you luck on this one.
