Haha, I just love how goofy he looks when he's flying

It's funny how they can look so regal when they are waiting for their catch in a pont and so clumpsy when flying

Nice!

Yes one of the main attractions for me photographing the Herons, you never know what you will capture. just when you think you
have seen it all along pops something new and interesting

Thankyou!!!!!!! this was a first this year too for me, i've seen them drop in fast like this a few times over the years
but never had the right gear or range to capture it properly.

There's really something quite comical about this shot Dave. It's a very nice capture too. The Heron looks so scrawny!

THEDOC4 In reply to Zarafa [2009-05-23 16:44:54 +0000 UTC]

Cheers!!!!! what makes it different is for whatever reason this bird approached the Heronry from a different
angle and height to the normal route. And above all it wasnt into the wind. it more or less pulled up to a stop and just plummeted/dived the 100feet
to the landing area. shame i missed the flare at the bottom DOH!!!!!

Guess that this is much more easier photo to be photogarphed atleast technically. Problem is how to get close enough, I think. You succeeded once again flawlessly, as usual.

Btw. hope someone is buying these shots eventhough I don't even know do you want some extra money or not. I mean there are lots of calenders, magazines and others with much worser nature photos than in your gallery.

Yes photographing this big Heron in flight after trying to capture swallows kinda makes it
seem like theyre travelling in slow motion LOL.

Well i have sold a few here and there but its just allways been my hobby really. But i am giving
it some serious thought now as im unemployed again, and jobs are getting hard to come by. i allways
struggle to judge my own work to tell you the truth, having never had a lesson or proffessional
help and taught myself with books/internet/ and taking lots of shots LOL so i am a amatur by definition.
I like to think of my work as being interesting and good quality and consistant

I see your point. Once I considered about to start studying photography but I'm clad I didn't. It would have been quite probable that it would have changed totally after it. It wouldn't be a hobby anymore with relazing and inspiring experiences. Instead of that it would be work which isn't nice anymore.

Yeah, keep up the good work.

So true and couldn't agree more, and the main reason i try to keep it as a hobby. once money enters the equation
then my whole approach would have to change in so many ways, what subjects i shoot, how and how much time i spend shooting them.
then no doubt it would become something less enjoyable and more monolithic just like a job!!!!!

Cheers ye a pretty steep angle giving it much more speed on that descent to the nests. Not often they come in like that.
