ah thanks! Glad you like it! I've grown to love this man's music MORE and MORE every day. he's brilliant.
I have heard the VH1 recordings, although I think I'm missing some. at one point I found the video that went along with some of it which is fun too. You can try You Tube to find some great videos! searching for Big Time will pull up some good live recordings!

Tom Waits is a very awesome artist! I think the best reference to find nowadays is youtube stuff. lots of videos to watch him actually performing and doing his thing. I'm DYING to do a Tom Waits sculpture. something crude and awesome.

I'll check out youtube for references. I've been wanting to do a scratchboard of him for a while but so far the only good photo I've found is a much younger Tom! I like to have a fairly detailed reference pic for those, but I'll keep looking! Glad you like the gallery and yours is great too!

Tom Waits is GREAT. He is one of my Absolute Favorites!
Plus he is one of my Favorite Actors also. His acting (in my opinion) is as incredible as his music.
In fact, i was just sitting here listening to him ("Clap Hands" is the track i am on at this moment). And i thought, hmm i should check deviantart for Tom.

Turned out damn good, imo... The gold leaf really adds to the brightness of the sun, And in the thumbnail view, you really get to see the silhouette quality of the Tom-tree

Captured Waits (who is my best imaginary carnie friend) perfectly, and I love that you included a) birds b) a top hat and c) a railroad track. Cant have Waits without a train after all.
And the technical skill, man alive! The vibrance despite the bleakness of the colours, the explosion of light, the perfect integration of all the traditional Waits imagery and the three figures...

yeah...It was left on a table for months and months while I sculpted....returned to it last week and finished it...I just don't have that...drive for illustration anymore...felt a bit disconnected from it.

ahhh finally the Waits picture, been waiting for this for sometime...worth the WAIT definitely. I think this piece is perfect, but I do wish we could of seen Tom through the ages, young balladeer, to the swordfishtrombone era white make up vaudevillian, to the midget with the pilots cap with wool chaps, to the blood thirst psycho holding a deck of playing cards...ideas for the next piece eh? Anyways I definitely getting a print of this, biggest one money will buy.
