Description Span of time.

2000 years ago, the Greeks had a way of understanding and talking about time that we have all but lost. To them time was not just a static thing. A past event could have impact and effect on a current event and move into the future. While we understand these concepts when they are explained, the beauty of Koine Greek, is that these thoughts, as well as many others, could be contained within one word. For us, to convey the same ideas, takes many words, many sentences and even in some cases paragraphs.

This image takes the concept of time and measurement, and treats them as equals. It challenges us to consider the meaning of time and its measurement, for our lives and our world.

This was a concept shot I did many years ago.  I too enjoyed the contrasting ideas.  The "bench" is actually an old trunk that my grandfather brought with him over 100 years ago when he came to Canada.

Oh that explains why it is worn down, and illustrates well the idea of time passing..

Really like your pictures. Just wondering, what kind of camera (and lense) do you use in your close-ups?

The textures of the bench and old instruments really make the clean and clear white of the watch face punch out, and the chain leads the eye through those textures beautifully for me. Lovely well thoughts out shot

I really don't like to fav any pictures with huge watermarks because it makes the photo so ugly.

I made an exception here because it is an excellent composition and I like it.

Maybe you could design your own watermark that is not so distracting as the huge, ugly dA watermark that covers your work now.

WayneBenedet In reply to CorazondeDios [2008-02-03 15:03:38 +0000 UTC]

I understand, and I guess you will just have to make your choice.

The problem for me, is that my work is sold, if I allow downloads or don't use a water mark, people tend to simply use it, and I loose the sale.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CorazondeDios In reply to WayneBenedet [2008-02-03 15:51:46 +0000 UTC]

there are many ways to watermark a work ==- the DA watermark is particularly obtrusive and ugly. I've seen many sophisticated, well done watermarks.

The easiast way to protect your work is to submit it at a small file size at a low resolution that cannot reproduce sellable quality prints, if that is what you are worrying about.

Also, people can make a template of the dA watermark and remove it from your work fairly simply. So the reasons to make your own watermark are pretty strong. Many professionals have their own design for a watermark. I've seen some very nice ones.

But the real protection lies in not allowing your work to be posted electronically in large file sizes.

I love the warm brown colours, and it's lovely and sharp and detailed too, as well as being a very nice setup and concept.
I feel I should be having deep thoughts about it, but it's just a *look* *look* stare* thing...

The Ancient Greeks had some very interesting concepts of time. That was enough for me.
