Maximum Carnage - part 5:

The criminally insane cloning expert, Professor Miles Warren, alias The Jackal, was seemingly dead. But his work remained. One such terrible product was known as Carrion. At first thought to be a corrupted clone of Warren himself, it later turns out to be a sentient virus that could infect a person, turning it into a host for the Carrion strain. At the time of the Maximum Carnage event, that unlucky host was one Malcolm McBride, a research student who accidentally exposed himself to a vial left behind by Warren. Don't pick up weird vials with unknown fluids in them, Vectorinos.

After battling Spider-Man on many occasions, this new Carrion found himself conflicted between the consciousnesses of McBride and Carrion/Warren. Thought destroyed in a prior battle, Carrion showed up again just in time to join Carnage's killer (literally) crew and rampage across NYC. Considered a "son" by Shriek, Carnage's original accomplice, he became the object of obsession of the sonic-powered villainess. And that's not a lady you want to be preoccupied with you, lemme tellya.

But in a later attempt to fully corrupt McBride, by having him kill his own birth mother, Shriek actually found a moment of motherly compassion. In doing so, she absorbed the Carrion virus into herself, curing Malcolm for good. McBride returned to the care of Ravencroft to deal with the trauma of becoming a floating zombie ghost clone monster. Nothing says "family" quite like emotional scarring.
