Xeigle and little Keiai, drawn for *-achiru- 's Parenthood Contest, which you can read about here: [link]This is my "Father's Day" entry. Augh, my style is so different from hers, but I hope the characters are at least somewhat recognizable! ^__^; I went for a sketchy monochrome look with the coloring, and I think it captured the mood I was going for. Done in mechanical pencil and Photoshop 5.5.

This is extremely similar to one of my favorite scenes in a series I am currently reading. =] It made me happy because now I can actually visualise it to an extent. It's beautifully done, too!

The monochrome fits the mood very well, including the backlighting from the window. Xei's hair is so perfect and I love both their expressions and body language. So sweet

It's not going as well as I'd hoped; you're the first entry! I think the Mother's Day deadline was a bit too soon, and someone has noted me they would be late, but I think most people are aiming for the June deadline.

I would really encourage you to draw from real life and not from another artist's work. You need to develop your own style through practice and observation; learn the way things work and how to "see" what you want to draw first. If you just copy something that has already been drawn, all you'll learn is how to copy someone else's style.

Father's Day is June 20th this year.

In the USA, Father's day is always the 3rd Sunday of June. (June 20th this year). I believe that most countries recognize that date but there are exceptions.

I really like how the baby is either falling asleep or waking up. Regardless of which it is, the fact that the baby can do that in the father's arms definitely says something good about their relationship.
I also love his expression and the way he's curled entirely around his child.
